Frothy is an ass.

I'm taking my son to see Nickleback in June, I only agreed to take him because they're touring with Seether :D .

I don't think they really are that bad. The "Nickelback Hate" just sort of caught on, I think. It's sort of like with Justin Bieber. I mean, that kid is left-handed and taught himself to play drums on a right-handed drum kit, plays guitar, etc. People who say he has no talent clearly haven't bothered to look at any of his older videos. However, at least in the case of "Bieber hate" I can see how they would find his stylized image and songs annoying, his music is all over the place. A lot of people hate Nickelback before hearing any of the songs and they wouldn't even recognize any of the members if they saw them on the street.

My vote is Frothy was going to say Nickelback, but even he would not stoop that low!

I was playing Dance Central on my Kinect and a Justin Bieber song came up.

I didn't hate it.

I feel dirty.

Unless he has shaved recently, the lead singer looks like Jesus. Perhaps looking like the savior has something to do with why he is disliked LOL

I don't listen to pop music so I didn't even know who they were. I looked them up and their songs sounded okay so I asked my friend who hates them with a passion and he said something about them putting out boring music that sounds just like everyone else and lacking creativity or something. Seems a little bullshit to me as if they "sound like everyone else" why isn't "everyone else" getting shit for it too? I don't know.

I went looking for "government n-----" as an expression, pre-dating this, thinking that perhaps it was a slur for someone who is perceived as playing the system for profit, or an Uncle Tom, or a government pawn.

I didn't find much, other than people discussing Santorum, but here's what I found - it does seem to be an expression that has been in use (for some of these, you'll need to scroll to find it -- I suggest a page search for one or both of the words to get there quickly -- oh, and some of this is repulsive and offensive):

ETA -- the next one is a poem that appears to be a list of common pejoratives, although some of them might be things the poet heard in his lifetime, or even made up. The book from which is comes only covers poems up to 1999.

This one is clearly not applicable, but I couldn't resist including it, just for historical interest! :D

This is people discussing the gaffe, but one of them says he grew up with that expression, for what that's worth:

That's what I found in about 20 pages of a Google search.

Here's a clip that is right on that spot in the speech:

Oh, and embedding a youtube video that is cued up to a particular spot seems to be impossible, unless I just haven't figured it out.

edited to fix a link

All I know is, I'm a parent whose kid taught herself to read at 4. She was reading Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland and I was just WTF??? So, if she had instead been able to play all those instruments by herself I would've been floored. That shows obvious talent. However, I do not appreciate his fundie beliefs (Maybe he will outgrow them, he is really young.) or that he got sucked in by Usher. I can't stand his image, and that HAIR! But, his songs are very catchy. I don't get why people have to hate such a young kid or say he is not a musician b/c he clearly has skills.

And this thread has officially veered way OT. Back On point: I just find it hard to believe even Santorum would be stupid enough to use THAT WORD. Possibly somebody in his campaign might be overheard saying it, but in a speech? I doubt it.

LOL, that's sort of what my friend said too when I asked her :) She's not so into that style of music in general, but I think most bands on pop radio have a certain "sound". Nickelback's been around for quite awhile, so it's not like they're copying other bands. I think most of Coldplay's music sounds the same; I still can't tell the difference between "Clocks" and "Speed of Sound" when I hear the opening bars.

Can Dickface Santorum just get the hell off my planet already? I'm tired of him being here.

This makes me think of the movie Anchorman. "Ron Burgundy will say anything you put on that teleprompter... and I mean ANYTHING."

The comment section of the video is heartening. No wonder he's disabled the comments on all his others. He hasn't disabled the ratings on them, so if you have a few minutes, why not scroll down his youtube account and dislike them all like I just did?

Well, there's no question that it wasn't written into the speech or on the teleprompter -- I can't imagine anyone would think that.

Whether it was a slip of the tongue because "government n----" is a phrase Santorum knows/uses, or he was about to say "n----," independent of the word "government, or it was just a tongue-tripping-on-teeth slip of some sort, is the only question.

Not that knowing it was totally innocent would change my opinion of Santorum, which is about as low as is humanly possible.

I don't think anyone thinks the word would have been written into the speech; I think they're saying if we saw the speech and saw that the intended next word was, say, "Negative," well, it makes more sense.

I agree the "n-word" doesn't make sense in context with what he was saying. I'm more offended that he uses "anti-war" as a slur, like not wanting people to die is a bad thing. Even the majority of people on the right want us to come home from Afghanistan now. Ron Paul has so many supporters in the military for a reason.

If he was going for the N word I kinda wish he would have just said it. After the awkward silence passed and outrage ensued he would have to shut up and go away.

Back in the day when Facebook groups were used regularly, I was a member of "I bet this pickle can get more fans than Nickleback."

Ah, good times.

The problem with Nickleback is they have released the same. damn. songs. Seriously, they only have 3 songs, and all they do is change the words.
