Just found out Santorum is coming to a city about 45 minutes away from where I live this thursday for a rally. Wonder if the Duggars will be there?

I would say there is a 50/50 chance. Joshie has been pissed about Frothy's recent defeats.

After reading that I can see why some Catholics wouldn't vote for him. Some of my relatives are working class Catholics and they dislike Santorum quite a bit.

I'm Catholic. I voted for Ron Paul in VA's open primary(any one can vote, dems, independents and republicans). Mitt Romney could give me everything in the world and I would not ever vote for him. I have a huge heart for dogs. And what he did to a member of his family is awful.

My parents are very conservative Catholics, my mom said to me yesterday "Ron Paul is the only one who makes any sense."

He turns a large number of Catholics off, being pro-death penalty.

If you live in California? I doubt the kids will be there. Maybe JB and Michelle because now we know they fly to the rallies. The kids seem to only go to neighboring states or southern ones. Josh has talked about future trips to Texas and Arkansas but I haven't heard of anything in the north or west.

Yeah, i'm in Cali. He's apparently coming to the Jelly Belly factory in Fairfield, Ca on thurs. A high school classmate now facebook friend of mine is a republican assemblywoman and she posted that he was coming to Ca. She mentioned it was a FREE rally. I don't know much about these political rallies but do you normally have to pay to go to them?

I would go just for the jelly bellies only :)

As a Catholic, I don't know any other Catholics who are for Santorum. I do know a 'former' Catholic couple recently turned somewhat fundy and quite anti-Catholic, who think very highly of him and waste no opportunity to say so. Every encounter with them leaves me scratching my head at the mental convolutions they go through to endorse him.

Santorum's fundy backers forgive him his Catholicism, because he barely observes its basic tenets and doesn't really count. He's a weirdly fundy Catholic in the same way Anna T is a weirdly fundy Jew.

Bashing JFK probably didn't help either.

To be fair, Santorum is a politician first and foremost. He will bend his policies to what will get him elected. Yes, he uses his faith to get votes. I think he honestly believes in them. However, he is also biased by the political beliefs surrounding him. Christian conservatives in this country tend to share a belief that gov't should be small, unless it's related to personal morality. In those cases, gov't should strictly regulate and support certain moral beliefs/lifestyles.

There's also the idea of a punitive justice system, and a black/white dichtiotomy of the world. People are bad because they do bad things, and they should be punished and made to suffer. There is no concept of redemption in this world. The idea of rehabilitation of criminals is not even a consideration. Hence, condoms are bad because they 'reward' bad behavior and "bad" girls may get away with "bad" actions. The idea is if someone does bad thing, they should suffer bad consequences. Contraceptives prevent people from suffering from the consequences of enjoying sex (or so the thought goes...).

Interestingly, I think the only time social conservatives would cut a criminal slack is if they committed a crime while serving in the military. For some reason, there's a virulent strain of nationalism among some conservatives that borders on xenophobia. They are willing to blind themselves to any wrongdoing by US soldiers as long as its done to people of other nationalities while serving overseas.

I think Santorum, surrounded by fellow conservatives who think in those terms, is influenced to think like this despite Church's teachings to the contrary.

So I take it this mean the owners of the Jelly Belly company are Santorum supporters? Because if that's the case, I can do without Jelly Bellys if my purchases are going to support woman-hating candidates.

Or college. Education is important to Catholics. Some of the best and most well known colleges in this country are Catholic Colleges.

Santorum is no Catholic. He mentally deserted the church years ago. I'm just waiting for the church to kick his ass out.

My mother is fundie-lite and even she thinks he is disgusting. I swear only the most insane people vote for this guy.

I can't remember if it was here or somewhere else where somebody said that Santorum's "just another cafeteria Catholic; he just chooses different entrees."

Of course what gets me ticked is it's not like the bishops are up in arms over Santorum ignoring Catholic social teaching or Catholic teaching on "just war," etc. like they were over Kerry's pro-choice stance :x

I find it surprising that Santorum, who is Italian American and Catholic, managed to adhere so well to a WASP fundie perspective.

However, a lot of conservative Catholics seem to ignore the official Catholic stance on stuff like the war in Iraq, social justice and the death penalty.

I have an acquiantance who's a devout Catholic and I remember when the war in Iraq started she was very enthusiastic about Bush "bringing democracy". I found it interesting how she was totally oblivious to John Paul II's condemnation of the war.

Speaking of Santorum, the Frothy Santorum page has dropped down the google rankings. Might be time to do a google bomb?

Just had my anatomy scan today. Would it be awful if we revealed the sex of number 2 At silly girl's first birthday party? We have the envelope, I just don't know If we want to open it before or during her party or give it to my sister in law to bake the color into her cake? I don't want to feel like I'm taking attention off of her

Guess I should update again? Frieda (Kiki, we renamed her) is here since the end of February 2021. She came with a bunch of problems, but is the best dog ever and is doing better every day. But we do now know how a dog with ptsd looks like. For real, not joking. If she is triggered during the day, she wakes up screaming at night. Not like dogs dream, but literally screaming. Other than that she went with us on countless trips, loves hiking and even cable cars. She is one heck of a fearless dog in situations who do not remind her of her old life.
My Grandpa passed away last May and I'm still grieving a lot. After sharing a house with my grandparents for over 30 years it is just horrible to lose one of them. Even though it was his decision and he got to go like he wanted. At home, in his bed during the night without doctors. He would have need more care and he did not want more care. So after turning 90 he decided to let go and became weaker and weaker.
In other news my dad stops working for good on April 1st. Retirement time. Keep my Mum and myself in your prayers. We really do not want him at home all the time. Haha!

Well, this is weird. At some point, recently, I broke my wrist. I had to get a Dexa-scan today (put it off for years) and along with some bone loss, damn I had it a few minutes ago… the results said, “Fracture risk is moderate, and the patient has a significant wrist fracture. Treatment is advised.”  my left wrist aches a little but not near as much as my back, feet, knees or fingers, damn RA. I have no idea how it happened. I haven’t fallen in 2 years, haven’t banged or bumped…  the dr will call tomorrow and we’ll get  this straightened out.
