I have Pinterest, but I don't use it much. Mostly I pin geeky things.

Are you Lostie there too?

Nope, slytherinkali

It's what I go by most places, but I was really into Lost when I first signed up for FJ back in the Yuku days.

What does one do it for? What's the point? It looks a bit purposeless to me.

We've been building a new fence, and I used Pinterest to post pictures of styles of gates and arbors I liked, so I could show my husband. I suck at drawing, so you know, a picture helped him get it. It looks really great!

I use it for organizing my collections of online recipes and crochet patterns. Since both tend to have images attached, it's much quicker than looking through bookmarks. I also used it to put together a list of picture books (with cover images) for when my brother finally procreates and I can spoil the kid rotten. Hey, I'm a librarian. Lists of books are my idea of fun. :) Plus, it makes it easy to share suggestions with people who might also want to get the future rugrat books.

Methinks Ms Dixon has been defrauded by Ioan Gruffud

Can't say I blame her! ;)

Yay! Pinterest love!

I was slow to get on the bandwagon, but now that I am on it, well, let us just say that I am addicted! I use it for lots of different things - from Dr Who love to house decor! :D

My username is - princessjo1988 if anyone wants to follow.

I get that same feeling. It seems that there isn't as much variety on Pinterest as there is in other places of the internet.

Not just a reply to these posts, but also to others in the thread. Nothing is really ON pinterest. It's not lots of recipes and organization tips. It's just people's bookmarks made public. If you don't like the things you're seeing, then follow people with tastes more like yours or pin stuff you do like. Basically I just think if you dislike the contest of pinterest, then you're probably using it really ineffectively. I also don't see how pinterest has conservative consumer base, because I know very few conservatives and most people I know are on pinterest. All about who you follow, what categories you look at, and if you're actually taking part in pinning.

I really love pinterest. As far as fundie/conservative base. I haven't really seen it. Maybe I am just used to seeing alot of bible verses printed on cutesy backgrounds. ALot of my pins are probably offensive to my Christian/evengelical family and friends, but oh well who cares. It's my board and if you don't like them than don't follow that board.

Anyway, I'm always looking for new people to follow. http://pinterest.com/kristebrown/

That makes sense. I know when I talk about Pinterest as a blanket object I'm usually talking about the homepage, which does have a very sparkly Christian vibe. I'll have to check out some FJer's pages. :-)

And that's the thing. I keep meaning, but have yet to actually get around to, placing my own pins on pinterest and using it as a tool to manage my bookmarks. Right now, I'm using it more as a tool to find new recipes, sites and ideas. And the site isn't good for that. Whenever I try searching for something new (say smoothie recipes) I get the same result over and over. Same picture and everything. It's nothing new or inventive, and it certainly doesn't guarantee quality (or even a link to the correct site.)

And I still haven't completely worked through my issue with the overhanded methods of the site owners in the requirement of a facebook or twitter account in order to sign up. Their reasoning was "because it creates better interaction." I don't share all of my personality with anyone, and the idea of having a board with hopes and dreams (and whatever) that isn't private is odd to me. And I'm certain that's part of the problem I'm having on the site. I can't put anything personal on the site because the entire site is too public. I toy often with the idea of going back and creating a dummy account that I could pin what I want. Anyway... *stops navel-gazing*

You can sign up with it & then turn it off in your settings. I signed up through FB and then turned the connection to my FB off.

For some reason, facebook friends keep friending me even though I've turned the connection to facebook off. My pinterest/facebook connection is off, but they import their friends list from facebook, which automatically links to me.

It won't be long before Facebook buys Pinterest out, anyway.

Yes this. I was not pleased when they bought Instagram out. I'm connecting to Pinterest through a fake profile on Facebook.

Mine is still fairly sparse, but mainly comprises kitty porn. And will soon include horse crumpet and chicken voyeurism. Plus various miscellanea, clothes, etc... My username is skordalia.

I like having one place where I can see all the things that have caught my eye, rather than a bunch of bookmarks. Most of the stuff I pin are things I will never actually buy, but some of them are things that I may splurge on for a very special occasion, like a few dresses or shoes that are just a little out of my price range. I do use FB to connect to Pinterest, but I don't really pin anything that I consider private. It's no secret that I like retro fashion and samovars. ;p It's definitely news to me that the site has such a conservative base - I've never run across anything like that, though I haven't been on it that long and none of the people I follow are even remotely fundie.

I really am floored by Jasmine's Pinterest. I would never guess she was Vision Forum just by looking at her board. She even has a pin of a vintage ad for women's "personal deodorant"! And she also has a whole board of teaching stuff that is all about "the classroom" (i.e., not the SOTDRT). I hope she really is thinking of making a break for it.

I like to have a place to collect cool stuff for my future apartment, and easy food to cook. It's easier than having it as bookmarks imo. Of course, I use it plenty for things I want too lol.

Pinterest is fabulous but I'm not on it because of this:

http://ddkportraits.com/2012/02/why-i-t ... on-boards/

Um, that article is definitely not going to make me even remotely scared of a lawsuit because I have a pinterest account. I find the article to be kind of laughable really.

If someone is really hyper-paranoid about being sued because they use images from the internetz on pinterest, then they can always just remove that image when someone asks them too. Does anyone really think that a photographer will lodge a police report about their stolen image (plausible), AND the cops actually really pursue this as a vigorous crime-worthy issue, AND a judge issues a warrant declaring your ISP has to release your IP address, AND someone comes to your door (very likely in another country) to serve you a cease and desist letter AND you ignore the letter, AND they take you to court, AND it doesn't get thrown out, AND they win??

Er... not bloody likely.
