Pinterest has helped me clean my grungy washing machine, get rid of ants ( I get them every spring like clockwork....), make dinner, find quotes, and waste an infinite amount of time. It's great when you are sick or can't sleep.

I can't believe fundies would utilize Pinterest. There are some evil things out there. They might find out about sex on Pinterest..... or evil birth control or something else equally as awful.

How long until someone creates a fundie-Christian version of Pinterest, kinda like the versions of Myspace/Facebook?

And yeah, Pinterest has helped me...mostly waste an infinite amount of time. I do like that it makes recipes easy to find, and I use the "Books Worth Reading" as my reading list now that FB got rid of their Visual Bookshelf app.

Also, sometimes a girl just needs to look at pics of cute animals, defrauding men, or food porn. ;)

I I also get stabby when people use the non-word "presh." I pinned a picture of some really cute lace shorts, but the person had written, "Presh shorts for over my swimmer!" Ugh. :violence-axechase:

The one that drives me nuts is "nom." I hate it when I see pinboards titled "NOM NOM NOM" and I hate when people use it to describe food pins. Other than that I love Pinterest!

So, I decided to check out Pinterest.

There's no "register" button, but "request an invite." WTF? The only other ways to join are through Facebook and Twitter, and I hate linking up different accounts.

One of us can send you an invite if you want :)

(PM me if you wanna. FWIW, my pintrest is NOT under my IRL name)

Susan Godfrey's Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/susangodfrey/

Susan is the woman who gave us all a big handslap on her blog earlier this week. Guess what? She also whines about the woes we cause on Pinterest!

Boy Jasmine has been going crazy pinning tips on interviewing, creating resumes, searching for the perfect job, etc. Could she be a SAHD on the verge of bolting her oppressive life!? Her Pinterest page is just makes her current state of mind way too obvious. She's even been pinning pics of pants and suits!!! God, I PRAY she has the balls to do it and go out and live her life!! I just wish she'd realize that God calls everyone to do different things!! Not EVERY girl has to SAH!!! It's just completely crazy that they think their lifestyle is one size fits all.

DO IT JASMINE!!!!!!!!

It's pins like this one that makes me feel like Pinterest has a very conservative (and possibly fundie) "consumer base".

http://pinterest.com/pin/85638830384355119/

"Feel like"? Pinterest definitely seems to have a conservative base. I wouldn't say fundy, because I know lots of religious not-fundies who would find that funny and actually wonder if there's some sort of truth to it.

I finally joined Pinterest and tried to find some atheist pins, on a lot of them some Christian has taken it upon herself to try and save our poor godless souls. Needless to say, that was a turn-off, and I don't go on Pinterest much now.

THIS is why I have a hard time getting into Pinterest. Oh yay! It's an inspirational Bible verse written in pink font, unevenly sized for emphasis! And everyone is calling it deep now. And pics of "healthy cookie dough dip" next to pics of photo-shopped anorexic girls. And jars, and mustaches, and "OMG NEEED" and "OMG WAAAANT" all the time. And overly complicated hair and overly complicated weddings, and overly complicated nails.

I have found cool things on there--love some of the food and architecture stuff, so I can totally see how people can get into it. But the sameness, high maintenance Bible-study-lady-ness, and the fantasy consumption fest kind of kill me. Is there a place on Pinterest for women who aren't conservative, middle class Christians, with a traditionally "girly" aesthetic?

I don't think there is :?

Taking one look at Pinterest just makes me want to BUY ALL THE THINGS. I don't think that's very good for me. Or my bank account. I hate looking at stuff that ramps me up into Super Consumer mode, and so many things do it - it used to be lifestyle magazines, more often now it's online catalogs of clothes and housewares, and Pinterest is like a concentrated dose of the exact same thing. Last thing I need, ugh!

It's covetousness transformed into a website. I thought Bible-thumpers would be more careful of things like that.

Absolutely! That's one of the reasons I quit with the lifestyle magazines too. I was basically spending money to get a packet of advertisements designed to get me to spend more money on stuff I probably didn't really need. Pinterest doesn't get me as much because most of the front page stuff isn't really to my taste, but I do catch myself thinking, "I don't even think I have enough jewelry to NEED this clever jewelry organizing trick. Do I need more accessories? Am I doing it wrong?" lol

"Feel like"? Pinterest definitely seems to have a conservative base.

I wasn't certain if it was truly Pinterest or just my sampling of it, as I'm in a conservative town in a conservative state and the "liberals" in this town are true moderates. And my pinterest friends reflect that.

I agree with the other posters on the overly-complicated nature of Pinterest. That's the feeling I get on the site that I've been unable to define until now.

Isn't Pinterest considered a marketing website, and that's how they make money? IIRC, I think the premise is targeting customers, not allowing people to aggregate ideas.

I don't know, is it? If so, that's fascinating (and would explain A LOT.) Now I want to read up on the history of Pinterest. Oh what a great way to spend a Saturday.

I think Pinterest is now the 3rd most-visited social media website.

Who you follow really does play a role - none of my friends are into the pinning of those absurd inspirational phrase pictures. Personally, I use it as a place to pin and organize interesting craft projects (knitting or sewing) rather than bookmarking them in my browser. Also, for something like remodeling a room it's nice to gather all of our ideas in one place.

I don't follow anyone on Pinterest, maybe that's why I run into the 'inspirational' shit.

I just pin things I like.

Probably. I follow some photographers and burlesque show promoters and nekkid chubby girls are extremely un-fundie ;)

There is certainly a place for less conservative people on Pinterest but it means being very selective about who you follow on there. I find that the offbeat website boards (offbeat bride, offbeat mama and offbeat home) are actually really fun to follow in general, and I only fit into one of those categories :)

If someone on here decides to follow me, can you let me know? I've got quite a few followers now and I'd love to follow you back, but until I am sure who you are I'm a bit wary of following you back. Just give me a pm or something if you username there is different to here just so I know.

I followed a bunch of people from FJ, my username is pulverheks. I might have followed you too, but I'm not sure of your username.

I have Pinterest, but I don't use it much. Mostly I pin geeky things.
