Bates in Peru with Gothard

So some of the Bates are in Peru with Gothard (and according to Baylee10 he paid for them to come) and there is a blog about the trip. The blog shows how crazy ATI is.

Some of the craziest parts:

The team went from there to a meeting with the top psychologist and discussed the idea of taking the principles contained in the 7 Deadly Stresses book and testing it on the patients and then documenting the results.

Keep in mind that this is from a guy who claimed all psychological problems are caused by being selfish.

Today we visited a Nursing School and spoke to the students there. They were very receptive to the message Mr. Gothard shared with them on Transforming Painful Memories and they are excited about implementing a stress resolution program in their school.

I'm guessing stress resolution is his newest kick.

The ALERT men had the opportunity to train over 200 security personal from the area. The men used the illustration of a river crossing to teach them vital character qualities that could increase their effectiveness in their place of work.

The security people look bored out of their minds.

After that, the team when to a home for guys. The ALERT men did a drill down with the group and many of the staff shared testimonies that really impacted the guys.

What is a drill down?

Today started with a visit to two of the largest hospitals in Lima and the regional director gave us a tour of the facilities.

One of the patients visited was a little boy about 5 years old named Julio. He is suffering from brain paralysis which hinders his motor skills. He had just come out of a surgery in which a portion of his gut had been implanted into his brain and he was already showing signs of healing. The doctors cannot explain why that technique is working, but Mr. Gothard was able to share with them the mind and body connection. They are working on an agreement in which VERITY institute will be able to work with the hospitals on a stress evaluation program and document the results.

 WTF?! Medical Free Jingerians are going to have to explain the brain surgery to me.

We also had the opportunity to meet with about 10 gang leaders at our hotel and share with them principles for success in life

They are teaching gang leaders how to be successful? That doesn't sound like a good idea.

I know last year someone here posted the blog for that year's Peru trip, does anyone remember it and if it was this crazy filled?

Let me guess--the Painful Memories are caused by abortion.

Better schedule your trip to Machu Picchu now, before the country becomes Gothardland.

I wonder that since now the Bates have their own show, sites like TMZ would be interested in this "mission trip". It kind of shows that ATI isn't some sweet little homeschool group that they are a member of, it is run by a crazy man.

I like how Gothard is wiser than psychologists, police, doctors, and nurses.

Apparently they've never smiled politely and nodded while someone is is the room, then exclaimed what total nutballs there were once they've left.

I really want to know what sort of surgery that was. I noticed people asked in the comments, but no reply yet.

Anyone else struck by this? So you freely admit to seeing total devastation and you brought... wait for it.... violins. How helpful. And the whole paramilitary thing would make me cringe in embarrassment for them if it didn't scare me so much.

So much OMFG WTH here! I wish each and every one of these fundies and Gothard (except the little one who don't know any better) could permanently swap places with the people in Peru!

I am so disturbed that he's dispensing medical advice now. This freak needs to sit the fuck down and stop pretending he knows what he's talking about. His research doesn't leave the bible. You don't necessarily need to spend seven years in medical school to know a thing or two about the body, but when he considers the bile to be all the text he needs (though everyone else needs the bible plus whatever snake oil books he's peddling), then he is nothing but ignorant and dangerous.

Well that all sounds really...ethical. Especially the part where they'll be testing on human subjects. Because, you know, I'm sure it's based on sound research and has been approved by an ethics board.

What does "brain paralysis" mean? And by gut, does he mean intestine or stomach? I'm tempted to call bullshit on the supposed surgery. Nobody attempts something so random and dangerous if they aren't expecting it to work based on a known mechanism, and I doubt you can graft much onto a brain. But maybe the writer is just grossly misunderstanding it, he doesn't seem particularly bright.

The idea of Mr. Gothard talking to a group of brain surgeons as though he were their intellectual equal is hilarious.

This reminds me of Scientology. "Painful memories" = past-life trauma from thetans. The fake "experts" trying to explain to professionals how to do their jobs. L. Ron Hubbard thought he was an expert at everything. Cults are remarkably similar.

According to my vast medical knowledge (aka google) "brain paralysis" is cerebral palsy. Google has never heard of implanting intestines into a brain to cure it...

They can't really mean putting his intestines in his brain, can they?! I would really love to know what they really did.

Putting a part of the "gut" in the brain? This sounds like SOTDRT science. All I can think of is a sort of reverse when they put a part of the skull in the stomach, usually to preserve it when there is swelling on the brain.

I will bet that some money passed hands to allow Gothard to look like he is making a huge difference in Peru. Have you noticed that these people are never trying to improve the lives of people here? Why? My guess is because most people here aren't stupid enough to fall for the crap they are throwing around. When you go to a country that speaks a different language, they just tune you out, nod and smile.

It's so funny that everywhere they go, everyone has a positive experience from hearing Gothard's message. It's as though they are so dumb they really believe no one who hears Gothard ever disagrees with him. He really is a God to them.

Did anyone what the clp where they say the Bates were a big hit? It appears everyone is pretty much ignoring their singing.

Yeah... sometimes people who have had strokes (brain paralysis?) also require gastro-intestinal surgeries because the person no longer has control of digestive motor functions, but this sounds like total BS. It also sounds a bit 19th century pseudo-science-y, like Frankenstein's monster.

After that, the team when to a home for guys. The ALERT men did a drill down with the group and many of the staff shared testimonies that really impacted the guys.

Now that just sounds dirty.

What is a drill down?

Maybe they meant that a shunt was put in the brain to drain the bleeding. The blood then drains into the stomach. I have a relative that had the procedure.

They said a portion of his gut had been implanted in his stomach, so if they are meaning this than they are majorly stretching the truth.

I doubt they think Gothard is God or those people are dumb. More likely a language barrier, and Gothard and his ilk are too lazy/stupid/uncaring to learn a little of the local language. Also, I can see the poor locals acting like they care about what Gothard says to get a hold of free food, clean water, and new shoes and clothes.

As for the stomach/brain surgery, let's see if Gothard would ever allow something like that happen to him. My guess is no.

Dougie goes to Bazil with a team and Gothard goes to Peru with a team the next year. Coincidence?

Not really, since Gothard went last summer with the "delegation" that included the Duggar girls.

Well, it looks like the trip to Peru is over and that Gothard is going to try and set up some sort of training center there.

I read that Gothard has a "Project Peru" or something, where he wants to implement his principles into the govt. and general peruvian culture. Hope the country realize the danger before it's too late...Peru seems to be a nice enough country as it is, and it's waking up from a long period of some civil unrest-terrorism. I hope the govt. realizes that what ATI gives is not free... :?

It can also be caused by a traumatic brain injury. Still, I dont think they know what they are talking about when saying that the gut was implanted into the brain.

Socalrules, that was my best guess. Maybe their description is their own misinterpretation based on their SODRT medical school.

Oh, and drill downs? Just what Peru needs, after being victimized for years by civil and border wars. I am sure the security guards are thinking, "Excellent, paramilitary techniques, we've never heard of THOSE."

Jerks.

Also I would add that the principal reason these assholes aren't doing their hospital tours and study proposals in their own country is because they would be UNETHICAL. And the doctors would tell them to fuck off rather than listen to their uninformed, baseless blather.

(I suppose if the Peruvian docs did that, it wouldn't make it into the blog).

I have nothing but contempt for missionaries, pharmaceutical cos. and researchers in general who go and experiment on poor people because they couldn't get ethics approval for their studies in their own countries.
