Well, not Thursday night, 'cause I'm really not one to deal with crowds, & matinees are cheaper, especially the first show of the day. So it'll be 1:00 Sunday afternoon for me. But I'm excited! From the trailers & stuff, it looks like it's gonna be awesome!!!

Yees!!! Thrusday night!!! I haven't had the opportunity for much rest these last few weeks so I'm excited! We're having pizza at home and will probably chat about the books then head to the theater

Only bring the bare minimum in terms of clothes (I mean no coat if you can, don't bring your purse, just ID, money) as soon as you get home, put your clothes in a plastic bag, seal it (start a washing machine if you can) and wash it warm water or put the clothes in dryer for 20 min (if dry). Go take a shower. Those are basics steps that can help... I don't want to freak you out :P

We've HAD bedbugs. The whole city is aswarm with them. I think we all know the drill by now in NYC (even the garbage pickup won't take mattresses that aren't all wrapped in plastic anymore!), but I still avoid movie theaters. (And at the price of those tickets, it's no great loss! Hard to tell which is the bigger parasite!)

Also, bedbugs die in HOT HOT water and a HOT HOT dryer, but you apparently have to keep it on for quite some time.

Or you could bag up your stuff until they starve to death, a year and a half later. God, I hate bedbugs, but you have to admire their sheer tenacity.

I had bedbugs, they actually die at a little over 100°C and their lifespan is dependent on temperatures. 20 min in a dryer (if the clothes are dry) is enough. They can survive for a year and half at cool temperatures, but in hot context their lifespan is much reduced, just like with very cold temperatures.

Just wanted to suggest something to ease your nerves, I've been there and done that and was pretty much alone hauling all my clothes to get cleaned in the basement, hauling my cat around when the exterminator came for treatment. I am not that crazy anymore, although clothes or stuff that I don't use at the moment are in closed giant ziplocs. End point, there's no way to prevent 100% contamination.

My husband and my friends are taking me on Saturday for my birthday. We've been planning it for months. I'm so excited!

I will go Saturday. katniss a 22 year old pplaying a young teen only in hollywood.

It's not that bad, it's only a 5 or 6 year difference in age between her actual age and her portrayed age. (Less if they decide to age Katniss up for the movie, to 18 instead of 16-ish.)

Sometimes it gets HORRIBLE, doesn't it?

I was thinking she was 14. but I could not remember for sure.

I was thinking she was 14. but I could not remember for sure.

Nope, she's 16 in the first book, 17 in the last two. In the first, she says she could pass as 14, due to malnutrition. Hell, with a lot of kids nowadays, 13 year olds can pass as 17, and 22 year olds as 15 year olds (I know some of each!), and as someone who is 22, I can EASILY pass as 17 year old- it's all about clothes and makeup. Jen Law is a phenomonal actress, so I'm sure she's done a fab job. I've been really pretty pleased with everything I've seen so far, except for the

writing out of Madge and the mockingjay pin. Madge and Katniss's friendship helped make Katniss more "real" and less this fierce Platonic ideal

.

On that note, I'm either seeing THG opening night or Tuesday sometime. I'm going to be doing a couple grad school interviews/visits out of town over the weekend, so I can't go Friday-Monday. If I go to the opening, I'll be dressing as Katniss, though I am wholly Team Johanna (favorite character!), but she doesn't show up until Catching Fire.

Also, has anyone heard the soundtrack? I downloaded it last night on iTunes, and it is DAMN good. I'm expecting a lot of awards for this movie, both for acting and production.

I really want to go to the midnight showing. Funds might not allow that to happen though. :/

I've been obsessively watching trailers and the T Swift video for Safe & Sound. Holy crap I can't wait!!

Anyone dressing up?

 I already specifically forbid the people I'm going with to dress up in any form. I am too self-conscious on their behalf (also known as being a wall-flower/killjoy).

 I thought about it but I got a Hunger Games shirt and the Mockingjay pin so I'll be wearing those. I might braid my hair like Katniss does.

Anyone taking their kids to see it? My 10 year old is chomping at the bit to go. She's read all three books. But still, seeing all that violence is a bit different from reading about it. Anyone?

Yes, I'm taking my 6th grader and her friends. She can handle it. But I'm not one of the most protective when it comes to films and reading material.

The cast were at a Barnes and Noble near here last night. I'm glad my daughter didn't have a fit when I didn't go for it. It involved showing up in the early morning, buying a book and getting a wristband, and then waiting for hours in the evening. All of the screaming fans were on the local news.

I plan on going as soon as the crowds die down and I don't have too much schoolwork. Maybe next weekend.

Guess I should update again? Frieda (Kiki, we renamed her) is here since the end of February 2021. She came with a bunch of problems, but is the best dog ever and is doing better every day. But we do now know how a dog with ptsd looks like. For real, not joking. If she is triggered during the day, she wakes up screaming at night. Not like dogs dream, but literally screaming. Other than that she went with us on countless trips, loves hiking and even cable cars. She is one heck of a fearless dog in situations who do not remind her of her old life.
My Grandpa passed away last May and I'm still grieving a lot. After sharing a house with my grandparents for over 30 years it is just horrible to lose one of them. Even though it was his decision and he got to go like he wanted. At home, in his bed during the night without doctors. He would have need more care and he did not want more care. So after turning 90 he decided to let go and became weaker and weaker.
In other news my dad stops working for good on April 1st. Retirement time. Keep my Mum and myself in your prayers. We really do not want him at home all the time. Haha!

I don't always make good decisions for myself due to severe depression but I did today actively decide not to do something that might have been detrimental for me and am very proud of myself.

Well, this is weird. At some point, recently, I broke my wrist. I had to get a Dexa-scan today (put it off for years) and along with some bone loss, damn I had it a few minutes ago… the results said, “Fracture risk is moderate, and the patient has a significant wrist fracture. Treatment is advised.”  my left wrist aches a little but not near as much as my back, feet, knees or fingers, damn RA. I have no idea how it happened. I haven’t fallen in 2 years, haven’t banged or bumped…  the dr will call tomorrow and we’ll get  this straightened out.
