Lovelie's adoption is final!

It's good to see how happy she looks in these pictures.

Does anyone know what happened to Justus?

For those unfamiliar with this story, a horrifying woman named Emma adopted two Haitian children after deciding they were possessed by the devil and in need of salvation. She subjected them to abusive punishments over normal behaviors, and was generally a terrifying evil nutjob who should never have been approved to adopt. The little girl has since been adopted by a family who seems to be doing right by her. To the best of my knowledge, the little boy's whereabouts remain unknown.

Here's the thread with the horrifying backstory: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15&

Emma now maintains a locked, members-only blog at atifamily.com.

Lovlie is beaming! I am so glad they seem to realize that they are lucky to have her in their family. Sweet little angel...I hope she has a wonderful life.

Fuck Emma.

What a beautiful smile! She looks genuinely happy.

Emma was an evil bitch. I hope she is never ever allowed to adopt another child into her home.

She is a beautiful little girl. I am just sick that she had to endure the abuse Emma inflicted on her.

Emma doesn't deserve her own kids, much less adopted ones. She belongs in prison for child abuse.

This made my day. Oddly, I think a lot about this little girl and her brother. I hope he's okay and very happy she has a chance for a happy life, after all she's been through.

Oh, and Emma, :obscene-birdiered:

What a gorgeous little girl - she certainly looks happy enough. Love that she has soft toys, funky jeans and cuddles to replace the madness that was fucked-up Emma.

I hope Justus is happy with his new family too. Didn't Justus get 'rehomed' first? I seem to remember Emma making a fuss that she was right to disrupt the adoption, and it just turned out that God works in mysterious ways: her own God-given role was to get them out of Haiti and then they went to families who were not eligible for overseas adoptions.... or something like that?

I'm glad for her, but I feel terrible for her brother. I wish they could have gone to the same home and stayed together.

According to Emma's now-defunct blog, haitiadoptions.blogspot.com, Lovelie and Justus (birth name Maicouley, spelled several different ways) were not biological siblings. Lovelie's birth mother passed away prior to 2009 and her birth father surrendered her for adoption. Justus had living family in Haiti who celebrated his 5th birthday with him (16 November 2009) in the orphanage where he lived. The children arrived in Emma's household 24 January 2010. By July of 2010, Justus was gone from Emma's household and placed with another family who had not qualified to adopt from Haiti because there were already too many children in the home. According to a post dated 4 August 2010 on another one of Emma's defunct blogs, radchallenge.blogspot.com, his new home included at least two older boys, one of whom was a teenager at that time.

ETA: Because Haiti permitted no more than four biological children living in the home at the time of adoption, we know there had to be at least five bio kids in the family that took Justus.

I was so incredibly relieved when Rachel333 found the blog of Lovelie's new family. The many parallels between Justus and Lovelie's situation and Hana Alemu's murder were chilling.

I agree and if those children had stayed with Emma, I have a feeling their outcomes would have been very different. Her outright hatred and disdain for them was so obvious.

The woman was a monster. So happy that Lovelie has a new home, and these folks seem normal enough.

Yes the photos look nice and I am so happy for this little girl. When I opened the page, "In the Ghetto" by Elvis started playing. No offense, but that song seems in poor taste considering it's a family blog highlighting adoption...

ETA: Sorry I totally missed you guys talking about this already, yes I found it odd!!!

These people seem wonderful. I read the captions about their children and they seemed to know something unique about each one and gushed love about them. I hope she has a wonderful life with parents who love her.

In the post before Lovlie's adoption post, there is a picture of a guy named Marcus. I am seriously defrauded by Marcus, whoever he is. Defrauded.

Has anyone read Radical? I haven't, but a fundi-lite family member of mine keeps quoting from it on their facebook. They also relayed an anecdote from the book in which David Platt, the author hears there is a shortage of foster parents in his city so he calls social services and asks how many more foster parents they need to fulfill the need, they say the need 150, and so he proceeds to recruit that number from his church. This concerns me because while I know that more foster parents are needed, doing it because your pastor tells you this is what God wants you to do doesn't seem like a good reason to do it. Anyways, this family that Lovelie is with seems really great on their blog, and I hope they are in real life too, but I have a little alarm bell ringing when I see the book Radical advertised, and seeing that video of "God's Heart for Adoption" which basically promotes the idea that we need to "save" all the orphans in the world because God used adoption to "save" important people in the Bible like Moses, Esther & Jesus.

I'm not some super smart person who can pick it all apart, but something just rubs me the wrong way and seems very ethnocentric - white people needing to "save" the world's orphans into our nice North American perfect families.

I am amazed - like, really amazed - at how ecstatic this makes me. I don't know anyone involved. Kids are adopted every day. This though; this, makes me want to dance and shout.

And it still kind of amazes me at how sick the thought of that bitch Emma makes me. If anyone deserves to rot in hell it is her. Lovelie finally - finally - has what she deserves. Love, respect, a family that is hers and that she belongs to completely just because she is Lovelie. It can't have been 'worth' it, but in the end, she got the life she deserves and that is what she gets to grow on. I just hope her horrors are dealt with so she can leave them in the past. I will blow up the Emma bitch for her, she doesn't need that baggage.

I doubt "In the Ghetto" was chosen. There is a playlist on the blog. It starts at the beginning when the page loads. I hate auto-play music, but the song itself more than likely has nothing to do with the post.

The playlist seems more like random tracks from the mom's "favorite artists," rather than anything chosen with a theme in mind. I didn't even notice the music because I had my speakers down. But yeah, that particular song certainly contextualizes things a little differently...

I really dislike the idea that people with disadvantages exist as service opportunities to let more-fortunate people to feel good about themselves, but I think this might be a case where pictures are worth thousands of words. Remember how frightened, closed-off and traumatized Lovelie looked in Emma's photos, and how she was often shown with dirty clothes and unkempt hair? The difference between those pictures and the kid in these photos now is so striking. I might not agree with everything written or endorsed in their blog, but this family seems to be doing right by their kids.

And as an aside, one of the older daughters placed 5th on season 6 of Nashville Star, which was like American Idol for country music.

Glad to read that this story might have a happy end. Lovelie looks... lovely :) What a radiant girl. I wish her, her brother and the new adoptive family all the best and much healing.

I noticed that Ashlee is engaged to Jesse Keith Whitley, son of country singers Keith Whitley and Lorrie Morgan.

Back on topic, I'm so happy for Lovelie, and I love her name--it just seems to fit her, especially now that we can see her looking happy. I'm hoping that heartless, soulless Emma sees how happy Lovelie looks in those pictures and maybe takes a look at the way she does/did things. Too much to hope for, I'm sure.

The response regarding Justus!

Thank you for your comments! We are truly blessed to have Lovelie. One needs some positive encouragement at times, and today was a real good day for it. Lovelie's brother is with a family in Washington and we keep in touch.

Nice to hear they're still in touch. Of course I'd love to hear more about how he's doing in his new family - remember the nasty, backhanded things Emma had to say about them? - but a thing I like about Lovelie's family is how they seem to respect the children's interests and privacy rather than sharing every sordid detail on their public blog.

Guess I should update again? Frieda (Kiki, we renamed her) is here since the end of February 2021. She came with a bunch of problems, but is the best dog ever and is doing better every day. But we do now know how a dog with ptsd looks like. For real, not joking. If she is triggered during the day, she wakes up screaming at night. Not like dogs dream, but literally screaming. Other than that she went with us on countless trips, loves hiking and even cable cars. She is one heck of a fearless dog in situations who do not remind her of her old life.
My Grandpa passed away last May and I'm still grieving a lot. After sharing a house with my grandparents for over 30 years it is just horrible to lose one of them. Even though it was his decision and he got to go like he wanted. At home, in his bed during the night without doctors. He would have need more care and he did not want more care. So after turning 90 he decided to let go and became weaker and weaker.
In other news my dad stops working for good on April 1st. Retirement time. Keep my Mum and myself in your prayers. We really do not want him at home all the time. Haha!

Well, this is weird. At some point, recently, I broke my wrist. I had to get a Dexa-scan today (put it off for years) and along with some bone loss, damn I had it a few minutes ago… the results said, “Fracture risk is moderate, and the patient has a significant wrist fracture. Treatment is advised.”  my left wrist aches a little but not near as much as my back, feet, knees or fingers, damn RA. I have no idea how it happened. I haven’t fallen in 2 years, haven’t banged or bumped…  the dr will call tomorrow and we’ll get  this straightened out.

I got my stickers today after renewing my vehicle registration.
Just reminded me again how different Minnesota is from Iowa.  Since I didn't register my vehicle in January last year, I got a sticker for the month since all MN plates are made with JAN printed in the lower left hand corner.  They also require people to put stickers on both the front and back plates, as opposed to Iowa that just want's the single sticker on the rear plate.
Oh well, considering how MN is trying to move into the 2020s while Iowa is trying to lurch the fuck back to the 1840s, the type and number of license plate stickers is really a minor thing.
