The Duggars screw over the Friendly Chapel/BATES EPISODE3/13

Can't find the Bates special on line anywhere. Anyone know if it's out there somewhere? Also noticed that the new Episodes of "19 Kids" are now missing from Amazon Instant--maybe it's a temporary thing?

Confederate Flag shirt--well with Nathan Bedrod Forrest Bates and Jeb Stuart Bates I guess we shouldn't be surprised.

If you find it, please post where you did. I'm still looking to view the special myself.

If you have to explain repeatedly how something you say or do "isn't really racist" - then it probably is racist and you should cut it out! this includes flying the confederate flag and hanging pictures od KKK founders

Thanks!!! As someone who lives in the south, I now have the perfect retort.

I love how they said Kelly chooses to give birth in the hospital. More like she has to give birth in a hospital now.

The whole birth part of the episode was what I disliked the most and makes me wonder how "real' the rest of the episode was. If I was watching knowing nothing about the Bates I would say I liked them better then the Duggars. Even though they showed themselves to be devout Christians, they seemed more normal, the extra bedrooms, the pjs, the personality the the Duggars.

Watching Kelly go to the dr for a check up and he said she had gestional diabetes(has Kelly mentioned this before?) and I got confused because it seemed like the kids said she was in labor and the dr was talking about pitocin? Did she go to the dr for a check up or was she in labor?

The whole birth scene freaked me out. The baby was blue and not crying...give your baby to a nurse Kelly! You don't need to nurse the baby!(I had a premmie via c-section and the nurse was trying to show her to me and I was screaming get her to the respitory team to get checked because she was laboring to breathe. I wanted my baby to get medical attention not kiss her..maybe I'm odd for this?) I also was disappointed the Bates made the birth look so perfect. Like Jeb came right home no NICU. They certainly didn't need to film the NICU like the Duggars but since they had pictures on their blog, why not put a few pictures up and say one week later after a short stay in the NICU Jeb is doing better and coming home?

Gil Bates creeps me out big time, although I can't yet fully explain why.

The kids may wear pajamas and play different instruments, but something does not feel "right" about these folks, and it's not just that Kelly appears to be mentally on the slow side (did we ever find out what college they supposedly went to?) or Gil's constant grinning and pawing of his 9 month pregnant wife of 24 years. Maybe as the show goes on I'll be able to put my finger on it, but they give me an even creepier vibe than the Duggars did back when they were in frumpers and living in the 3 bedroom rancher.

But, back to the original topic...it occurred to me that the Duggars would not be late if they did not take the whole damn family everywhere. Why not just send whichever kids, from Joy upwards, who want to help with the fish dinner? Oh, yeah, what am I thinking, no PR for JBob and Michelle, and no flaunting their little ones, so we must see all 24, (count us, we are all so righteous) of them, every damn time. There is no doubt in my mind that a free fish dinner for 24 was included. 'Duggar Time,' my ass, it is just complete lack of consideration.

I dunno. Maybe left-handed people shift right when doing recall. I know I do both because I am conscious of it when I'm trying to recall during Jeopardy. Jinger is also left-handed. I've noticed that if the eyes roll straight back, they're DEFINITELY lying.

'Duggar Time' always reminds me of a quote by Ghandhi: "Lateness is a form of violence."

I'm left-handed as well and will have to pay attention to this. I do notice that when I'm at Arabic class (read from right to left) I had an easier time than most individuals in my class, which I chalked up to being left-handed.

This!

Plus have they never heard of packing the night brfore?

i've only had to pack for our small (2 kids) family, but everything is ready before we go to bed. all we do in the morning is pack the personal toiletry items and dress, I would even allow sleeping in travel clothes if it were a really early start and the kids were really small.

prepare a portable breakfast and you're off. No cooking fajitas while the bus is waiting. Jessa is supposedly such an expert packer? not so much, if they are still piling things into the bus an hour late!

Such extreme habitual tardiness is just plain rude. I'd love to see them organize an event and have people show up hours late. Why is not showing your knobby old knees considered essential, but keeping a gym full of volunteers waiting is a hilarious character quirk?

Rude rude rude!

Ultimately it is a symbol of racism. I do believe there are people who are ignorant of that over-riding fact, and they truly believe that flying that flag is, to them, a symbol of pride in their regional heritage, history, etc, etc, etc.

Actually it's a symbol of states' rights, an important Constitutional concept that's been getting severely trampled for the past 80 years or so. The campaign to paint it as a symbol of racism is part of the larger campaign to federalize/socialize everything, while simply ignoring the Constitution.

I hope I'm not opening a jar of peanut butter here, but:

Exactly which states right is that? The right to own slaves? Are you fucking kidding?

1. They went to Carson Newman College http://www.cn.edu/

2. On Gil being all over Kelly (I haven't seen this--it was commented above) Oh Gag! That's what I hated most about the Duggars "we're married so we can do defrauding things and laugh about it: With 19 kids we know your only real form of recreation is fornication so get over it all ready!

3. "The kids may wear pajamas and play different instruments, but something does not feel "right" about these folks, and it's not just that Kelly appears to be mentally on the slow side (did we ever find out what college they supposedly went to?) or Gil's constant grinning and pawing of his 9 month pregnant wife of 24 years. The creepy factor is the whole Gothard lifestyle! Think about it this way: An ELECTED OFFICIAL cannot live on his own, cannot go anywhere alone, cannot be trusted to be a lone with his girlfriend. Now, does that make sense? Of course not, but that's Zach Bates. Mom and Dad Bates do more to contribute to than family than just create more members, they do allow their kids to pursue some individual interests and do at least accord them a minor shred of privacy more than the Duggars but lets not forget they have a tv survialence system in that house to! It's so helpful to see what everyone is doing was the comment made in an earlier episode (well, something like that). So, yes the creepy factor is there big time. Plus they seem to be even more geographically isolated (a favorite local for Gothard types).

Does it matter? I'm from the south and I'm a little uncomfortable about how we're all portrayed as yokels all the time.

I live deep in Appalachia, where we get both the southern stereotype as well as the hillbilly. Us'n hillbillies refer to we'uns as Appalachian-Americans.

Gil and Kelly attended accredited colleges with strong Christian values (whatever that means). Both colleges are reputable.

Kelly Bates met her future husband while both were students at Anderson College in their native South Carolina. They transferred to Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, graduated and married in 1987.

Read more: http://www.enterprisenews.com/archive/x ... z1pC6qwKAI

BTW: Anderson used to be a two year school, which might be why the transferred to Carson-Newman, which is in NORTH Carolina.

Cross-posting with Hopewell.....

Yeah. You do realize that "state's rights" is code for toleration of Jim Crow laws? Since you seem to think that we're living in some kind of socialist/fascists country, probably not.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

http://crushable.com/entertainment/michelle-duggar-miscarriage-18-weeks-joy-anna-driving-lesson-278/

Crushable updated their this-miscarriage-is-taking-forever article.

I agree. Every couple I've personally known that showcases their relationship like that has ended up getting divorced or stuck in a very unhappy marriage.

Their article about the Bates special was great too: http://crushable.com/entertainment/meet ... ggars-400/

In a move shocking no one since they switched over to an all train wreck format, TLC has decided to essentially re-make its own concurrently existing show 19 Kids and Counting by adding yet another reality show about the Bates family, called The Bates Family: Baby Makes 19. I can only guess they plan to pit the Bateses against the Duggars in some sort of contest to see who can deliver more children from her old, traumatized womb before it finally stops responding to the hormone shots being administered to it.

If it has nothing to do with racism, then why did the state of Georgia slap it on their flag just in time (1956) for it to be a flip of the bird to the Civil Rights movement and desegregation? Oh yeah, because it's a racist symbol.

You're flat out trolling anyway. I've been suspicious but this puts you firmly into shit stirring for the hell of it territory, especially when combined with your desire to force a young woman to have an abortion.

Actually, it's a symbol of a failed country founded upon institutional slavery (aka the Confederacy). The Stars and Bars no longer solely represent the Confederacy, southerners let the KKK co-opt their flag. Since the people of the south accepted (if not supported) the KKK using the Confederate flag, they allowed it to change from representing history to representing racism, and cannot pretend otherwise. The Dukes of Hazzard tried to reclaim it for southern pride, but one tv show cannot overcome a century of lynchings.

I know we're not supposed to feed the trolls, but I couldn't resist, sorry!

I encourage you to read this link: http://www.ashbrook.org/publicat/oped/o ... /flag.html

and, eventual Confederate vice president Alexander Stephens' so-called Cornerstone Speech of March 21,1861 in Savannah, Georgia: http://teachingamericanhistory.org/libr ... ntprint=76

and the history of flags of the Confederacy, for which Wikipedia is fairly adequate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_t ... of_America

The "State's Rights" claims of motive and the claims about the meaning of the battle flag are, almost entirely, ex post facto attributions -- propaganda after the fact, perpetuated by the non-victorious side in the conflict. They say that the winning side writes the history, but in this case the Klan and friends worked pretty hard to un-write and re-write history.

What the hell is up with the blatant racism of newbie trolls this week?!? Between geniebelle and Jwatcher, I feel like I am in some forum from 1962 in Mississippi. For fuck's sake....

Sorry for being a wee bit out of topic...

Can someone recommend a few titles of books on the subject of the American Civil War? Biographies or non-fiction only, as much as I do enjoy historical fiction novels I'd like to read something with more "meat"...

Thanks in advance.

ps: I have "Team of Rivals", which I haven't read yet (got it last Christmas).

Umm....here is one example where I said the Confederate Flag is racist:

No, it's racist period. But, I live in the South, and many people fly it to show "Southern Pride", and don't get how racist it is no matter how many times you try to tell them that it is). It also does not stand for both sides not wanting slavery back. The Confederate Flag was the official flag of the Confederate States of America which were slave holding states, and were considered traitors. So, if people are saying it's not racist and represents heroes on both sides, they are delusional.

I hope you still want to read it by about midway through Volume 2. But, it is engaging, a good mix of big swooping tides of history and little tidbits about individual lives.

Doesn't negate the other numerous posts where you say blatantly racist stuff and cling to it. Stop looking for pats on the back. YOu're not going to find them here. Several users were very kind and generous and patient with you the first time you said shit and they tried to genuinely educate you. You have burned bridges here now though.
