It's one of those bullshit "positive thinking" quotes, and I had a thread in Chatter about this. Because I hate digging up dead and buried threads, I'll add that I recently read a blog post about "positive thinking" that said it required a lot of arrogance, and was more about feeling superior to someone than actually recognizing your flaws and changing (which is "negative self-talk" :roll:). Yeah, Miss Raquel fits that bill.

That's pretty much been my experience as well.

Yes, most people are mean just to be mean. When someone is mean out of jealousy, it's almost always obvious in my experience. And it's usually between people close to each other like relatives or good friends where some deep resentment has been bubbling for the other for awhile. Usually if someone says something mean out of jealousy, it tends to be more of a lashing out than just being mean and a way to vent their frustration on the other person. I would suggest that it is quite rare for someone to be mean to someone they don't really know because they are jealous of said person. In fact, it probably almost never happens.
