A congressional candidate running as a Republican in the upcoming Illinois primary says the "Holocaust never happened."

Arthur Jones, 64, a Lyons, IL, insurance salesman who organizes family-friendly, neo-Nazi events around Adolph Hitler's birthday, hopes to be the Republican candidate chosen to run against Democratic Congressman Dan Lipinski in Illinois' 3rd Congressional District.

"As far as I'm concerned, the Holocaust is nothing more than an international extortion racket by the Jews," Jones said. "It's the blackest lie in history. Millions of dollars are being made by Jews telling this tale of woe and misfortune in books, movies, plays and TV."

"The more survivors, the more lies that are told."

The amount of sheer denial and ignorance it takes to be that idiotic is just mind blowing. I'd call him worse, but this guy is not in touch with reality so why waste my time?

How anyone can deny the Holocaust is beyond me. There's an exceptional amount of proof and surviors to tell their tale! Uggggh the stupid. It burns.

Edited because I wanted to add another sentence :D

I cannot even come up with the words to describe this creature.

In Germany, he would be arrested. Hey, if he's so sure the Holocaust didn't happen, maybe he should go there and see what happens when he starts spouting his bullshit?

I'm thinking it's got nothing on blood libel. Even were it true that the Holocaust didn't happen (which of course it's not, 11 - 17 million deaths weren't just made up!), the worst result of that would be... I guess the money being spent on movies and books. I mean, apparently. A few millions of dollars in revenue is nothing compared to HOW many deaths and pogroms throughout the centuries?

Arthur Jones is an idiot.

I mean, really. Who is stupid enough not just to say that, but to say that while running for public office? No one. I mean, no one.

Holocaust deniers....they're a fun bunch indeed. *Sigh.*

Every time I hear someone deny the Holocaust, I think of the Family Guy episode. Brian and Stewie were in Germany taking a guided bus tour... the guide jumps over the Holocaust years and when Brian asks he shouts "GERMANY WAS ON VACATION!"

I don't get how people still deny this happening. I don't understand at all how people can see the evidence right in front of their face, hear the stories of survivors, hear the tales of other Germans who talk about hiding Jews and the likes and STILL say this never happened. I mean, crap, I get that Germany is a pretty cool country, but to conjure up this amount of falseness in order to be "cool"? I just don't get it at all!

Well, my grandfather only imagined those two years in a concentration camp, then.

I'm all about freedom of speech, but I'm glad that it's illegal to deny the Holocaust in Germany.

I knew it was illegal to fly the Nazi flag in Germany but I didn't realize it was illegal to deny the Holocaust. You learn something new everyday.

Yeah, our laws are quite touchy when it comes to that. Using Heil Hitler complete with te raised arm can get you arrested, too.

See, I don't like this law. I am not happy with laws that criminalise political statements. (We passed laws recently in Scotland about what you can say/sing in public places and I don't like 'em either.)

Don't get me wrong, I fucking hate fascists. But I also suspect strongly that banning them from doing their thing just makes them continue doing it, but *where you can't see them* and adds a dark glamour to it.

I totally understand your point, and I do agree to a certain degree. The raised arm is just... It's silly to make it illegal because now, the idiots stretch out only three fingers and whoops, it's not illegal anymore and everybody knows what they mean, anyway. However, I do like the law making it illegal to deny the Holocaust. Nobody really understands why because it really goes against everything I believe in, but this is different for me.

Funny how Holocaust-deniers forget about all the non-Jews (which even includes, gasp, Christians!) who also died in the Holocaust.

Actually, a larger number of non-Jews died. The reason it is often perceived as a Jewish genocide is that Hitler specifically and repeatedly excoriated the Jews, blaming them for Germany's failures.

I have seen estimates that range as high as 20 million non-Jewish deaths attributed to the Holocaust.

I should add that my grandfather was a Catholic, blue-eyed, red-haired German. He ended up in the concentration camp for giving people fake working papers. People who denied the Holocaust later told him that he'd belonged in "jail" as they called it for being a criminal, and that nobody went there just for being Jewish. The things he saw in the camp broke his heart, and those people later broke his spirit. Maybe that's why I forget about being a bleeding heart liberal and scream, "Throw the bastard in jail!" whenever something like this comes up.

Which I think is actually an unfair gag. It would be quite appropriate to make such a joke about Japanese reactions to history, for instance, because they refuse to acknowledge the truth on a national level. German education and public life is very, very clear about the history, there's no national denialism going on.

Another fun Holocaust fact: after the concentration camps were done with, surviving gay prisoners went to jails to complete their sentences. Reparations granted to other groups were denied to them.

My first reaction, I should say my first considered reaction (my first reaction contained a lot of swearing), is that he has a right to say what he wants and that such rights are very precious. However, my second reaction is no-one has the right to be an idiot so, fuck him, throw him in jail and throw away the key. Moron.

Illinois Nazis....

I read this guy's info & all I could think was "The Blues Brothers"...

But seriously, how crazy do you have to be to think any Hitler-themed

Event could be considered "family friendly"?

You know, anytime someone denies the Holocaust I'm reminded of Mr. R. G., an old friend of my Grandfather's. He was a German-American and served in WW II with the 42nd Infantry.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/42nd_Infantry_Division_(United_States)#Combat_chronicle

He always had a few choice words to say.

RIP, Mr. R. G.

Just had my anatomy scan today. Would it be awful if we revealed the sex of number 2 At silly girl's first birthday party? We have the envelope, I just don't know If we want to open it before or during her party or give it to my sister in law to bake the color into her cake? I don't want to feel like I'm taking attention off of her

Guess I should update again? Frieda (Kiki, we renamed her) is here since the end of February 2021. She came with a bunch of problems, but is the best dog ever and is doing better every day. But we do now know how a dog with ptsd looks like. For real, not joking. If she is triggered during the day, she wakes up screaming at night. Not like dogs dream, but literally screaming. Other than that she went with us on countless trips, loves hiking and even cable cars. She is one heck of a fearless dog in situations who do not remind her of her old life.
My Grandpa passed away last May and I'm still grieving a lot. After sharing a house with my grandparents for over 30 years it is just horrible to lose one of them. Even though it was his decision and he got to go like he wanted. At home, in his bed during the night without doctors. He would have need more care and he did not want more care. So after turning 90 he decided to let go and became weaker and weaker.
In other news my dad stops working for good on April 1st. Retirement time. Keep my Mum and myself in your prayers. We really do not want him at home all the time. Haha!

I don't always make good decisions for myself due to severe depression but I did today actively decide not to do something that might have been detrimental for me and am very proud of myself.

Well, this is weird. At some point, recently, I broke my wrist. I had to get a Dexa-scan today (put it off for years) and along with some bone loss, damn I had it a few minutes ago… the results said, “Fracture risk is moderate, and the patient has a significant wrist fracture. Treatment is advised.”  my left wrist aches a little but not near as much as my back, feet, knees or fingers, damn RA. I have no idea how it happened. I haven’t fallen in 2 years, haven’t banged or bumped…  the dr will call tomorrow and we’ll get  this straightened out.
