"those Duggar's have it right" -fundy snark on mainstream tv

Anyone else watch this show? And do you ever notice any other fundy or Duggar snark on mainstream tv? Has there ever been another fundy on a sitcom?

Apparently we aren't the only ones to notice that JimBoob and J'Chelle don't actually raise their own kids, the writer's of The Middle also notice it. On tonight's episode the mom, Frankie, said about the idea of hands off parenting, "I'm tellin' ya, those Duggar's have it right, let the kids police each other." Of course, this being a sitcom, the hand-off parenting concept ended up being a disaster.

The show also has a great fundy character, Ruth. She's been on 3 or 4 shows now, one of teenage daughter Sue's geek/nerd/outcast friends. On tonight's episode when Sue's teen brother did/said something dorky she sympathetically said, "I totally get it, 14 of my brothers are like that."

Every time Ruth makes some statement about her lifestyle (and those are the only kind of statements she ever makes) everyone just stares at her with a wtf look for a very quite second or two, no comment.

I love this show!!! At least the girl Ruth gets to go to high school and be a cheerleader.

That character is so funny. She said she couldn't cheer because of the clothing so she has a modified modest version. And the "14 of my brothers" comment was hilarious.

If it wasn't for Patricia Heaton I would watch it, sounds very amusing!

I haven't heard of it. When is it on? What network?

the last 5 episodes are free on hulu :D

There is an episode of How I Met Your Mother where Ted goes to spend Christmas with his crazy, fundie, quiverful cousin.

^This. I'm surprised she let the writers snark on pure, innocent, God-fearing Christians like that.

I'm convinced Sue IS Jill Duggar.

I'm wondering if fundies are becoming more recognized by mainstream media. There was a show available on Hulu for a while called "I Hate my Teenage Daughter" (hey, guilty pleasure), in which one of the characters made references to a fundamentalist background.

There was some fundie type snark on Glee when they introduced the Joe character. Joe had been homeschooled, his dad was a Bible salesman, all he read was the Bible and his family only owned a radio.

Another example of Glee snarking on fundies was the abstinence club scenes.
