'Defrauding' in 1872...

I was flipping through a really neat Flickr anthology of convicts from the early 1870's when I came across this description:

"Along with James Davit and William Cotter, Thomas Smith defrauded another gentlemen in 1873. Thomas was sentenced to carry out 3 months in Newcastle City Gaol."

My initial reaction was "his outfit doesn't look to scandalous! He must have been one of a group of streakers." :doh:
