The Production Crew On The Duggars

I would love a tell all book from a crew member. I think the only crew members who actually likes the family is Jim. I agree some of the shots of the kids playing in dangerous situations whille Boob and Mullet are around don't put the Duggars in the best light. I also remember there being camera shots of Jordyn struggling to get on the bus on her own. I can see the camera guys feeling sorry for the kids.

The crew members probably also get annoyed with the Duggars' attitudes on certain subjects. Some of the crew members probably have wives who work and some probably were raised by working moms. Some of the crew members might get annoyed with the Duggars claims about how they use the show to "minister".

If a tell all book by a crew member never happens, I hope a crew member goes public in some way. Several years ago, VH1 had a documentary on how twisted the reality show business is and people who had worked on reality shows in various ways talked about a lot of deception that goes on behind the scenes. They talked about staged events and reshoots. A lot of the stuff Duggars do is obviously staged. The visit to the farm with the maze in last night's episode was staged and last season there was the episode in which they celebrated at Jackson's birthday at pizza arcade place and you could tell the whole thing about Jackson using his prize tickets to buy Johanna a toy set was set up.

do you remember the name of the doccumentary? I'm interested in finding it online or something... Also, what is meant by 'slip-ups' like when Hannie was climbing to the top of the stairs, to make them look like they dont really watch the kids? Can anyone tell me another example cuz this kindof confused me lol, I want to watch for the 'sneaky' types of footage

I definitely don't think that said "slip-ups" or anti-Duggar atmosphere on the editing end of things is only possible through women working there, though. I like to thing that any decent human being would get pissed off from exposure to the undiluted asshattery, regardless of what's between their legs.

Ditto.

There are a lot of them. Every episode has one; that's what makes the show marginally interesting. (In addition to overt slip-ups, I am including times where they show footage that is bound to be controversial or provocative. I think the editors do this on purpose, whether out of hatred for the Duggars or simply to make the show more interesting and spicy.)

My favorite "choice editing" incident EVER is the time when they are at the public school on Reading Day, and there is a blurb contrasting the Duggars' reading list with a public school reading list. It was very telling and did not make any attempt to make the Duggars' reading choices look the least bit smart, interesting, or edifying--or dumb down the public school list. It was just very honest and, alas, tragic. (Think "Public School: Catch-22, To Kill A Mockingbird, Great Expectations, The Catcher in the Rye, Of Mice And Men, For Whom The Bell Tolls/Duggar Academy: Waiting For Prince Charming, The Reverend Spy.") I am honestly surprised that the Duggars let this through.

This kind of thing is what makes me sympathize a lot with the editors.

I think his was the most honest of them all. I imagine by this point the crew has some real connection with the family, and I'm sure the Duggars were genuinely pleased for Frank when they announced he and his wife were having a baby. In that sense, he probably doesn't want to outright insult them. Plus it wouldn't be good for his career. That quote does seem to show that, whatever his beliefs (or lack thereof), they are not the same as the Duggars'.

That wasn't Frank whose wife was pregnant. Frank is the young Asian guy. I want to say it was Bill Stefanucci or Scott Enlow, but as we saw on the Ruth thread, don't take my word for gospel. ;) The last I heard, Frank was single and FJers and TWOPers were hopefully trying to get him to defraud one of the girls.

Frank can defraud me any day. :fans self:

He is a cutie. He must be mixed race, because I've never seen hair that curly on a full-blooded Chinese person. I live in an area with a VERY high Asian population (entire Pacific rim is represented) and I don't see curly hair. I also have both Chinese and Japanese cousins of mixed race (and a couple adoptions from China) and at best, a couple of them have slightly wavy hair. Nothing like Frank's adorable mop.

The documentary was called Reality Secrets Revealed. I did some video searches through Google and nothing came up. VH1 produced the documentary and a sequel that aired in 2005 and 2006. I wish it was online because it discussed a lot of things that most reality show producers do. I think Sean Overbeeke, the producer of 19kac is probably just as shady as the producers of Teen Mom, The Bachelor etc.

I don't think he's necessarily mixed race. Sure, he might be. But there is such a thing as naturally curly Asian hair. I think a lot of dudes with unruly hair like his used to straighten it but curly hair is pretty in now in Asia, actually...and dudes actually get perms.

Sean Overbeeke annoys the crap out of me.

No reality show is ever "real" as the "stars" claim it to be. Producers know what's interesting and what will get viewers attention, so they'll either stage something or create some sort of a conflict on purpose.

The BEST staged thing on 19K&C has got to be the "sex talk" between Smuggar and Dim Bulb before the wedding. Anna's BIL, Josh, posted something regarding Sean and the show itself on DWOP a few years back. Apparently, people had to sign a waiver to be part of the wedding and this pissed Josh off.

I'm pretty sure when we first introduced to the Bates Family in the first season, the meeting was staged and created by the producers themselves. Reasonings are the following-

-Dim Bulb said in that episode that him and his family would meet up every year at the ATI conference, yet when JB and Gil were talking, JB mentioned how he hasn't met half of the Bates children.

-In their first documentary special, it was all about the Holts and how great they are, then they were axed and did not hear about them after that. All of the sudden, here comes their good 'ol great friends, the Bates Family.

Nothing about this show is real.

I forgot about that whole incident and Josh McDonald's anger about it and IIRC didn't Josh claim that Sean the producers lied about certain things about Mike Keller. I remember watching the "sex talk" and realizing how phony it was. I also think some of the things with the Bates family are also staged as well.

Isn't one of their crew suppose to be fundie-lite? I think that is the one who I guess asked to be taken off the John & Kate crew and moved to the Duggars.

Frank: Running after the ones who are fast and trying to include everyone in the show.

Where's mom? Oh, she's either busy trying to create another blessing or out with her husband at special events or campaign trails.

I personally have found the Duggar's faith, and the way they live it, to be an inspiration. They quietly state their position and stick to it. Their faith informs every aspect of their life. They do NOT judge or condemn you if your faith/position is not the same as theirs- they treat everyone with respect. I have worked with a LOT of talent, professional and reality/amateur, and the Duggars are the most genuine people I have met. They have my profound respect.

Is this guy a misogynistic douchebag? Has he seen Josh's posts making fun of Catholics and people with disabilities, or if he did, does he just ignore it?

So I finally decided to de-lurk for this thread :D

The company that produces 19K&C (plus a bunch of other TLC/Discovery stuff) is based down the street from my apartment. I live in an incredibly liberal town. Possibly the most liberal community in the South, and one of the most liberal in the country. We can give San Francisco a run for their money. Any time you see random "man on the street" interviews on 19K&C, they are filmed around here. I've seen people I recognize from the grocery store on there!

So long explanation short, the crew down in AR may be Duggar approved, but there is no way the editing and production crew up here meet Duggar standards. I'm sure there are all sorts of women, gays, and non-Christians on the crew. Probably a few Socialists too. I'd LOVE to see the Duggars come up here to visit the production studio and tour our little town.

Did you see the episode where they went to the Creation Museum, and filmed the "counterpoint" at Weaver Street? All those hippie liberals basically saying they were batshit crazy for believing the earth was 6,000 years old

Apparently, Pa Keller's talk regarding "transfer of authority, grape juice, and a woman's hair" went on for about 45 minutes but they edited to make him look stupid which pissed of Josh.

Here we go, found it for those who have not read it:

Unless you're gay. Then there's no redemption and they'll send their oldest son out there to spout the family belief that gays are evil and should not be tolerated.
