Kirk Cameron's New Project

Cameron has been at work over the past couple years on a film project that chronicles his personal journey to historic sites across Europe and the United States, where he sought to discover the “secret recipe†that has made America the freest, richest country in history.

Why is it that every fundie documentary seems to require an extended holiday for its stars? They always go to the most famous historical sites in Europe, as if it's somehow vital to the subject matter. Even assuming that, say, the Roman Empire holds lessons for contemporary America, it's surprisingly possible to find out about the Romans without needing to poke around the Colosseum. What exactly do they hope to find in these 'historic sites' that couldn't have been discovered without an all-expenses-paid jaunt?

All right, it's a bit of a rhetorical question - they're addicted to their own importance, and insist that they should visit only the grandest sites, where they're certain that they will have the grandest thoughts.

According to this he isn't right about the bolded part: http://www.stateofworldliberty.org/report/rankings.html

I mean, great, you're in the top 10, but this "We're number one!!!!" nonsense just pisses me off. Saying it over and over doesn't make it true. Lots of other countries have freedoms. And lots of them don't have a huge portion of their population in prison, or disallow them to marry the person they love, or have such an unwieldy election process that it takes 2 years out of a 4 year term to elect a leader.

Could this be a first step to Kirk trying for a political career? Might as well, plenty of other batshit crazy asshat fundies are doing it.

I think that is a possibility. I could see Kirk trying to establish a political career another way to shove religion down other people's throats. I wouldn't be surprised if Ray Comfort is encouraging him to do it.

Seriously. It amazes me that they can do so much travelling and NOT notice that the places they're visiting are modern free countries, with human rights and modern infrastructure often better than what the US has. (And they're not stuck debating if evolution is real or not...)

Or to put it a different way, WW2 ended almost 67 years ago. Stuff has like, happened in the meantime.

Mr. Cameron, the fact that you're an American is a fluke. You did nothing to deserve it but be born. It's not impressive. Further more, while America has some great aspects to it, it's not perfect. It's like going around bragging that "I was born on a Tuesday, so I'm the best."

I heard that David Barton was involved. Great, if there's any history in this thing, it'll be either distorted or flat-out wrong.

My thoughts of this;

Kirk is getting old and gray

Fundies are so Pro-American and always 'America is a Christian Nation' drama

Europe has nothing to with American values (at least according to Kirk's view)

Evangelical Christians scare me (when they're like Kirk, Ray and Dougie)

Utter Crap

As someone said above, does Kirk Cameron not look around when he's travelling, and say "hey, they don't have it so bad here too." I tell you there are things the UK or France do wayyyy better than Americans. The extensive transit networks, social safety net (though KC and his ilk believe this is "socialist") just for starters.

A large part of the transit issue in the US is due to the vast size.

That aside, it pisses me off when fundies and Tea Partiers wax poetic about our freedoms here. There is "Freedom to" and "Freedom from". If you add to one, you take away from the other. Most developed nations are relatively equal in freedom, but they choose a different balance between the stuff you are free to do and the stuff you are free from. Take, for instance, gun rights. Almost all Americans are free to own and safely use a gun, with very few restrictions. There are nations where people are happier to be free *from* a well-armed public. That is a different sort of freedom, but freedom nonetheless.

I love this country, for all its flaws. The ideology pisses me off, but my non-Western side of the family has instilled in me a huge appreciation for the lifestyle and freedom I enjoy as an American citizen. You don't have to crap all over other countries to love your own. So stop it, Kirk Cameron.

I hate that he is traveling to all these amazing places just to pick at them. The culture of the United States is a composite of the homelands of the people who came here, so we owe the rest of the world a huge debt.

I've never set foot outside of America/Canada, and even *I* know better. Does Mr. Cam-Cam NOT notice how many freedoms we Americans are LOSING? And if someone took away his car I bet he'd REALLY notice the lack of mass transit.

I used to the the USA was the only country in the world with freedoms too. Then I grew up and met actual Europeans, and they set me straight on certain things.

Two words: Kirk who?

He's a washed-up former child star who threw his career down the toilet thanks to fundie-ism.

The secret recipe is high fructose corn syrup and free love

He could tap into the all-powerful lobby of Growing Pains fans.

I made potential posters, months ago! Here's one:

Sometime back I kind wondered how Kirk's career would been if he hadn't become a fundie. I think even if never had his religious conversion, he still would have been a washed up former child star. He might have landed on other TV shows but his career would never been extremely succesful. He would have probably ended up like Fred Savage. Fred's career hasn't been too big.

He's an outspoken Christian in Godless liberal Hollywood, so no one will hire him. Has nothing to do with his acting ability, appearance, or work ethic; he's just another casualty of the War On Religion. [/sarcasm]
