According to this article, Karen Santorum, Rick Santorum's wife, used to live with an Abortion provider and dated him in her 20s. He was 40 years older then her.

The Daily Mail wrote an article on it too and included a picture of her with the Abortion Doctor http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... octor.html

http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2 ... riend.html

I don't know that to think or believe about this; it's just what the article says and I found it surprising.

EDIT:

Here's another article talking about it... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/1 ... 14964.html

"'Did you know Rick Santorum’s wife, Karen, had a six-year affair with an abortionist named Tom Allen?" anti-abortion activist Elizabeth Reichert writes in the letter. "This abortion doctor was 30 years her senior! In fact, he delivered her as a baby! The only reason they broke up was that Karen wanted kids -- while Tom was busy killing them." Rick Santorum's wife of two decades is drawing fire for her past, with multiple sources reporting that she lived with OB-GYN doctor Tom Allen, confirmed by the man himself.'" Huffington Post

Again I'm not saying I believe any of this... I am just saying that I am surprised if it is true...

Odd, too, that Dr. Allen was a "friend of the family", a large 11-child Catholic family, that is. Wonder how they reconciled his abortion practices with their precious daughter moving in with him? He must have kept his life under wraps until after Karen moved in?

In a way, Karen had her "rumspringa", six years of living and garnering off a rich, old man who took her on world tours, bought her

expensive toys, got her teeth fixed and squired her around high society. Can one imagine if one of the Duggar girls did this, then went BACK to her old fundie life? Simply mind-boggling...

I don't know much about Karen Santorum's background, but I haven't seen any evidence that she was raised in any particularly cloistered or sheltered manner. Not every large Catholic family is fundie, or even fundie-light. Anyway, the article says,

Although they had technically known each other since Karen’s birth, Allen doesn’t remember having contact with her as she was growing up; they reconnected when she called him looking for an apartment to rent near Duquesne. Her parents, Catholic with 11 other children, who lived in the nearby suburbs, were well acquainted with Allen; her father was a pediatrician who got many of his patients through referrals from the obstetrician. They knew he owned the building that housed his large practice and that there was a basement apartment.

So, if her parents knew him well enough to know that he had an empty basement apartment, they knew he performed abortions. It appears that her parents opposed the relationship, but what parents would not raise an eyebrow at a 42-year age difference? I suspect that Karen wasn't raised as a Duggar: she's just another Michelle who converted to a certain lifestyle.

Neither Santorum, they say, was particularly conservative or religious when they married. Either their core values shifted, or they are pandering to the far-right constituency.

Glad to see this topic is getting a bit more traction here, as I tried to raise it on another topic. I find this fascinating, and it's all true and well-known in the Pittsburgh area.

You know Rick's parents were probably horrified when he hooked up with that gal. Can you imagine if one of her kids shacked up with some old rich geezer? But hey, she got a nice set of teeth out of him. The old guy sounds somewhat cooler than Ricky.

Certainly interesting! And appears to be the case as the articles are well-sourced. In a weird way, it's too bad Santorum's star seems to be burning out vis-a-vis the GOP nomination campaign. I'd love to see him squirm with some of these inevitable questions.

other glaring issues aside, why must a "doctor who performs abortions" be termed an "abortionist"? bleah. surely he does other stuff. you know, like BE A DOCTOR.

Funny about her and that so-called "scary basement apartment". Wonder why she hadn't checked it out beforehand OR maybe had a friend come and spend the night WITH HER if the place was so damned creepy? My bet is because none of her friends were interested in hanging out with a potential predator after they'd seen his gray beard and grown kids their own ages. You'd also think her own mommy and daddy would have checked out the place, too, if they were hesitant about their little sweetie moving away? OR maybe they figured one night in the catacombs would send Karen scurrying back to her upstairs bedroom with her raft of stuffed animals and frilly canopy bed and guardian angel night light? So much for parental influence, fundie moms and dads! One more snark-worthy query: Wonder if Doc Tom was her first (cough, cough) YOU know! LOL

Expect a defensive tweet from Smuggs in 3... 2.. 1!

He is going to put his fingers in his ear and stomp his feet and pretend this isn't a story ... as he does with everything else he can't defend.

I believe it. And if he becomes President, which is highly unlikely, all these sites will disappear. Am I the only one who remembers that prior to being elected Bush Jr was reported to have paid for a girlfriend's abortion? There were many reports on the web, now you can't find them (or couldn't when he was President, haven't looked lately).

I only read the Newsweek article, but it seemed very well-sourced. Not a word about it on CNN or MSNBC all day (been listening to them both), though, which does not surprise me.

I think people have learned from that. People are probably taking screenshots and saving them to USB sticks or otherwise saving them.

Guess I should update again? Frieda (Kiki, we renamed her) is here since the end of February 2021. She came with a bunch of problems, but is the best dog ever and is doing better every day. But we do now know how a dog with ptsd looks like. For real, not joking. If she is triggered during the day, she wakes up screaming at night. Not like dogs dream, but literally screaming. Other than that she went with us on countless trips, loves hiking and even cable cars. She is one heck of a fearless dog in situations who do not remind her of her old life.
My Grandpa passed away last May and I'm still grieving a lot. After sharing a house with my grandparents for over 30 years it is just horrible to lose one of them. Even though it was his decision and he got to go like he wanted. At home, in his bed during the night without doctors. He would have need more care and he did not want more care. So after turning 90 he decided to let go and became weaker and weaker.
In other news my dad stops working for good on April 1st. Retirement time. Keep my Mum and myself in your prayers. We really do not want him at home all the time. Haha!

I don't always make good decisions for myself due to severe depression but I did today actively decide not to do something that might have been detrimental for me and am very proud of myself.

Well, this is weird. At some point, recently, I broke my wrist. I had to get a Dexa-scan today (put it off for years) and along with some bone loss, damn I had it a few minutes ago… the results said, “Fracture risk is moderate, and the patient has a significant wrist fracture. Treatment is advised.”  my left wrist aches a little but not near as much as my back, feet, knees or fingers, damn RA. I have no idea how it happened. I haven’t fallen in 2 years, haven’t banged or bumped…  the dr will call tomorrow and we’ll get  this straightened out.

I got my stickers today after renewing my vehicle registration.
Just reminded me again how different Minnesota is from Iowa.  Since I didn't register my vehicle in January last year, I got a sticker for the month since all MN plates are made with JAN printed in the lower left hand corner.  They also require people to put stickers on both the front and back plates, as opposed to Iowa that just want's the single sticker on the rear plate.
Oh well, considering how MN is trying to move into the 2020s while Iowa is trying to lurch the fuck back to the 1840s, the type and number of license plate stickers is really a minor thing.
