So the witches/Pagans/Wiccans etc that I have known are better people than these "Christians". Yup, keep on showing the world how you are "different". :naughty:

"Let his days be few; and let another take his office. Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow."

Yeah thats just a lovely thing to say about someone who you happen to disagree with in terms of politics!

That shit makes me so mad that they can say these things in the guise of religion and making out they are so much better than others because of it.

And you shall know them by their love.

Surprising how often that is relevant when you're dealing with fundies. Little balls of hate.

There is a part of their prayer in which they pray for his line to be cut off. To me, this is an indirect way of wishing harm on little Sasha and Malia. It makes my eyes fill up with tears to think that anyone would feel that way about those sweet little girls. I bet they call themselves prolife while praying for little girls to die.

Given the typical fate of widows with young children in those times this is an exhortation for Michelle, Sasha and Malia to starve to death.

Wow! There is an old saying, be careful what you wish for, it may come true.

How about praying for Gods will to be done, and the best person for the job to be elected. :naughty:

I thought it was PP that was ranting about this originally? Oh great, it's catching on. I am no Obama fan but this makes me

I have mixed feelings about Obama. But I have never wanted him to die and I especially have never wanted anything to happen to his family. They are a beautiful, functional family; even the hardest-core conservative cannot honestly deny it. I love everything that his wife is trying to do regarding school lunches.

I genuinely don't think that most people quoting this verse meant it as a wish for Obama to die. They took it out of context and thought "Let his days be few; and let another take his office" was funny. When I've seen it quoted by anti-Obama people, they end the quote there. If you look at the surrounding verses, though, it really is incredibly inappropriate and offensive.

Agreed. It's one thing to hate Obama, but to wish him dead? Who the hell wishes anyone dead?

Now, possibly there was a misunderstanding about the T-shirt like the others have mentioned, but even so, that was an egregious oversight.

These people claim to know the Bible inside and out, right? I think they knew what they were saying.

They don't have the whole Bible memorized, and most people probably aren't going to look up the verse when they see it quoted. Almost all the people I've seen repeating this message were obnoxious teenagers.

Aargh! That is some seriously unpleasant shit.

We were talking phobias: this isn't precisely a phobia of mine, but I am made extremely, superstitiously nervous by illwishing (which this is). It probably can sound a bit strange because I am a revolutionary socialist and fully accept that, well, revolutions can get messy and unpleasant but necessary things happen. But what is so creepy IMO about imprecatory prayer is it is just wrong. It cannot be justified. It...breaks something about human relations.

First, Christians are not permitted to use it. This is Bible 101 after the NT replaced the commands of the OT. The NT has a set of outstandingly clear instructions about how to treat your enemy and how to treat government authorities. If I was still Christian I would be shocked by the idea a Christian would do this, but hey, fundies! Nothing about them shocks me now.

Second it is the gleefulness. We all have a gleeful malicious kid in us. I totally do, much more than most here at FJ. Chief of sinners there. But why do fundies want to show that side of themselves to their God?

Third , I admit, superstition. I never did hear from anyone about good happening to illwishers. Illwishing is uttering a curse on someone. It is a serious and terrible act, both according to the Bible and according to human nature. Note that this imprecation punishes the relatives with torture. That is worlds away from regrettable but necessary things. To be praying for bad things to happen to the wee Sasha and Malia because you do not like their dad is creepy, sick and wrong.

I am really no Obama fan but am even less a fan of people who lust after cruel and unusual punishment and even even less a fan of people who petition their deity to inflict it on others.

(need shower after reading that link)

Guarantee. They know what they're doing all right.
