I'm posting a link to this story, even though there is a Santorum/Duggar thread, because this is from the UK and goes into a lot of detail arond Amy's reasoning and messages around political beliefs, candidate support. etc. Please feel free to merge if needed

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2081493/Duggar-family-19-Kids-And-Counting-endorse-Rick-Santorum.html

This is about JB from the article, ..."He drove up in the family's bus with 12 of their 19 kids in tow, but the kids didn't stay outside with the crowd of supporters for too long, as some of them did not have winter clothes. Nevermind the chill, Mr Duggar told a Washington Post reporter, saying 'it’s worth it. We believe in Rick Santorum. He’s a godly, Christian man who consistently has stood for what’s right.'

Why am I not surprised that "some" of the children did not have adequate clothing for cold winter weather? Of course I'm now also wondering if the J'slaves wore their flip-flops on the trip. Great way to parent JB- why could you not buy each child a pair of new winter shoes this Christmas?

That's what happens when 5-12 year olds are the one's packing the bus. But they parked at a Wal Mart, FFS - go inside and buy shoes, socks and jackets! Oh, wait, NVM - it wouldn't be 'used'. Better just keep the kids in the bus and burn some extra fuel to keep them all warm - lord knows the good old boys fought hard for those fossil fuels, better use 'em up!

The Duggars are not poor. There is no reason that the family could not afford winter clothing for their kids. I know that it sometimes snows in Arkansas. Does the family not go outdoors when it is cold? How can they have no winter clothing?

My bet is that JimBob is trying to get donations.

He could have stopped on the trip and bought the kids a jacket or left them in the bus and did this by himself

Really, Jim Bob?! You were going to IOWA, couldn't you have at least told your children to dress warmly? Good parenting skills.

If the older girls were wearing flip flops, it's okay because as Jessa has said multiple times "Duggar girls can do anything in flip flops." You go girls, show the wintry weather who is the boss. idiots.

The Daily Mail is a trashy right-wing paper - my parents read it sometimes as it has a (debatably) good weekend TV supplement  and I have never seen the Duggars mentioned in the print version, but I have seen articles about them i the Mail Online that are, I think word for word the same as from a US trashy paper? The online comments seem to be predominantly from the US too, except for the odd Brit that refers to the Duggars as 'nutters'.

I don't think they are particularly well-known over here, except by people who watch the Duggar show as a bit of a reality freak show, on TLC on Sky.

Just to play devils advocate here I notice people who always drive everywhere tend not to dress for the weather. They figure they will be in their car so they don't need a coat it is a pretty common thing.

I have been watching the news and it seems if abortion is the one thing a worthless candidate stand against than fundies will jump on the bandwagon no matter how bad the rest of is crap stinks.

They called Amy JB's cousin. And who really cares who Amy is voting for and why?

I noticed that, too. Way to get you facts straight.

I see people who do stuff like that in the winter. I know some people will wear light jackets in the winter mainly because they aren't outside for long amounts of time.

Once again, Jimbob shows that common sense is not his "thing". The Duggars never fail to believe that they are better than others and/or that rules somehow don't apply to them. :naughty:

I think the Duggars are easy space filler for a number fo "tabloid" type publications all over the world. I am always startled though when the Duggars make news in other countries, whether the DM, Telegraph, Scotsman, Figaro, The Sun etc. ,

As many times as we've watched these people pack for a trip, they should really have this down by now. It's not like they don't have winter clothes...they went on a ski trip last year. And it does snow heavily in arkansas at times; I remember when they had that blizzard/ice storm and the bateses had to come cut down trees for them.

It was really windy here in the Iowa City area, which made the temp yesterday around 10F(it's around 20F today). There is no way in the world I would have left the house in less than two layers yesterday.

Maybe the coats were mixed fibers, and the fake Jewishness demanded they be shunned in favor of exposure?

In one of the pictures, one of the twins - think it was Jed - looked like he was freezing, just wearing a vest. But Boob is a man who has yet to buy his girls 6 and under their own beds, so I doubt he's worried about the teenaged boys having winter coats.

As for Amy giving political commentary to a British newspaper about insurance co-pays in Massachusetts, well, I'm simply rendered speechless.

Given JB's pathetic abilities to organize or plan ahead, he probably decided on the road trip on a whim and it didn't even occur to him didn't check the weather forecast assuming would be the same as Arkansas

OK, But they showed them last season going to the SNOW right!?! and actually buying SKI clothes and such.... could they not have used those clothes? or were they quickly sold (or returned) after coming back? This is kinda nutty!
