I wonder if she is doing the care for the horse or just doing the run around the woods and play with him part. I don't see her being big on cleaning stalls or stuff like that.

Not a horse person, but it is common when you are training a horse to go on hikes with it like that and let it get away from you? I know from all the animal shows I have watched it looks like they try and teach them to be led. I was watching some animal rescue show yesterday and they were having all sorts of trouble with one horse because it had never been trained to be led by a human and was going crazy when they tried to do it.

I hope its not anything Bestial

That is totally, like, unBiblical!11 How could you even imagine Miss Raquel would do something so abominable?!11

Oh yeah, because it is hilarious.

OK, first an admission, when I read the title I thought to myself "wow, really?" Second, I don't know as much as some here, but I know that when training a horse to walk on a lead you be somewhere where it won't matter if the horse gets away from you. I also think you are supposed to actually use a halter and lead line

It seems like they were just out in the woods walking and she was SHOCKED!! just SHOCKED!! I tell you that the horse ran and didn't come back when she called. This horse is going to throw her off and kill her if she ever tries to ride him.

She's training that horse all right. She's training that horse to be a dominant, stubborn, and dangerous beast. It *is* possible to train a horse without a halter and lead, but you need a small enclosure and a lot of know how. I have seen a lot of horses go the way this colt is headed.... trained by a romantic young girl, thinking love and affection will win the horse over.

First off- that horse looks thin. If it didn't have that winter coat I would suspect ribs and hips would be beginning to show. She is wearing a hat, so I am guessing it is cold where she lives. Second, in one of those photos, I would swear I see that horse grazing on some bracken fern. This is a toxic plant.

If you want to see a good horse training movie, watch "Buck" on Netflix.

At the very least, watch the 5 minute segment starting at 1:10 into the movie. This is a killer horse. I suspect that this may be the kind of animal Raquel is creating. You cannot make a pet of a horse.

She is in Oregon. She is from a large family where only the dad works and she got the horse for free, I suspect they really can't afford the food and up keep along, with a real trainer. She seems to think this is a dog that will just follow her and obey what she says. This is not going to end well. Poor horse.

This x 10! I grew up with horses and ponies, my Gramps was awesome with horses and trained some of the most gentle wonderful horses we ever had! But horses don't follow you around like puppies, for that matter puppies, most times, don't even follow you around like puppies.

Pretty much all of this.

Seriously, "Miss Raquel" seems to be living in a fairytale land, I worry for her.

Most people don't realize that horses need food and farriers. I don't know what they think goes into upkeep of a horse, but I can't count the number I've seen that have been massively underfed and are unable to walk properly due to lack of care.

Ummm....is it me or does the way she describes that seem a bit like a romantic date in some cliche movie scene? Chasing each other through the woods, watching the sky. It sounded like something a teenage girl would do with her boyfriend, not a horse. Also, if this is how she is training that horse, she's going to wind up with an uncontrollable horse.

That's really sad. I was never one of those people who wanted a horse (I wanted an owl instead 8-) ), but I can only hope that if she's not taking care of it herself that her parents have hired someone to do so.

She is asking for trouble . . .

" He came over and nudged me...and I rolled over. He kinda cocked his head and was like 'Hmm...she moved. I wonder...' and nudged me again. I rolled over again, this time chuckling a little.

Well, he thought it was super fun...so kept rolling me and rolling me. haha

Finally I pushed him away.

'No, I'm not gonna get up. You tired me out!'

When he realized that I was serious, he decided to lay down next to me. haha And we looked up at the sky...and the sun, through the trees.

I have always wanted to do that with my horse.

It's almost like a scene from a movie...

and I got to do it."

A horse dominates you by getting into your personal space and making YOU move. It's a way of determining hierarchy. If you can make the horse move away from you, you're the boss. What she's saying here is 'I submit - you're the leader'.

If he stepped, or rolled on her in these games, she could die of internal bleeding before any help could get to her. She is an idiot - that horse probably weighs about 450kg. She needs to get some good advice on backing and handling him, or he'll be unmanageable.

As for the horse, he does look a little poor, yes. Wonder when she last wormed him? Or did a faecal egg count to find out if she needs to?

I keep horses - they are hard work, though adorable.

The last time she posted about her horse and people dared to question her care of him, she cried about the meanies on her facebook page. I don't think she is open to any sort of advice that isn't go frolic with your horse and pose for pictures. I think she sort of views him as a prop or a toy, not a living creature with lots of expensive needs.

But boyfriends are teh evil! She must seek pure fulfillment with her horse instead!

I pity the horse.

I pity them both. Miss Raquel has been trained to believe that she cannot have any kind of relationship with a guy. If she were a non-fundie she would probably be that way too bubbly, boy crazy girl that I could not stand (no offence to any over bubbly, boy crazy FJ-ers), but because she's a fundie she's trapped. Yes, I very much pity the defenseless horse, but I pity her too.

Obviously I don't think what she's doing is right (not by a long shot), and I think she needs to grow up and take care of her horse, but nobody ever should have bought her a horse in the first place.

Oh, horses don't lay down like that. THere is NO WAY I believe that the horse layed down with her. THey generally only lie down for brief periods or if they are in pain. Horses are high anxiety flight animals- they are at their most vulnerable on the ground.

It also looks like that is the only horse on the property, which is stressful on the horse, esp young ones. If she "takes a walk" with her horse and it sees another equine, it will run, not walk, to that other animal.

Last, horses should never, ever, out of common sense, be "turned loose." I have seen car/horse collisions. It is always fatal to the horse and at the very least injurious to the driver. It must also be mentioned that the horse owner is ALWAYS at fault if a horse is on the road. Oh, and Raquel? THe fact that the nearest road is 2-3 miles away means nothing. To a horse in a full gallop, 2-3 miles takes one minute, tops. It would take you about 20 minutes if you are fit runner.

This is not going to end well...

Best case? A wild horse that ends up at the SPCA.

Worst case? The little miss gets herself badly hurt/killed.

Horses are not boyfriends/toys/props/dogs/cats/best friends. They are a crap load of daily work. I think she should have got a rocking horse instead. Much better for both her and the horse.
