Fundie swimsuits

Honestly, they're not as ugly as the giant, floppy black suits with the neon tee-shirts that the poor Duggar girls wear. At least the twelve year old got to choose her own fabric.

I really wish there was a mid-point between these and the horribly revealing high street swimming costumes...

There is. There's an LDS company that makes bathing suits that are actually CUTE. Not schlumpy frumpy. (And their model pictures are quite defrauding! tee!). I found them when I was googling stuff for longer tee shirts/camisoles (I have a long torso and all teeshirts i find ride up on me horribly)

I wear a rashguard and a swim skirt that matches it. I think it looks goofy but what the hell, I'm covered enough to be comfortable.

I wear a rashguard shirt with matching board shorts. I look like a freak in my mind but at least my ample flesh is covered and I'm not gagging anyone. I have a real bad hang up that I'm offensive in public since I'm almost 100 pounds over weight.

Those are really cute! I don't think I'd actually like to wear one of those skirts, because I hate the feeling of wet fabric, but I love the look of the suits and would totally wear one of those bodices with a more traditional leg cut.

Agreed. Those are super cute! I won't be able to afford one for a while, but they're great.

You know, there are a lot of pretty swimsuits that are more covering that 1)don't look like the second-hand curtains in my friend's bachelor pad, and 2)are still modest.

And Sarah of heartsdesire babbles on and on about the beauty of a particular "nappy" for novices like her. I put my first "nappy" on a kicking, screaming baby when I was around 10 years old, not realizing it was rocket science.

I've seen styles that are better for modesty and sun protection, without being completely hideous:

I used to teach swimming wearing a big t-shirt. The problem is that the material isn't really designed for swimming. It's fine for a dunk, but for serious swimming it absorbs too much water, is too loose and creates too much drag.

Has anyone posted this site yet? It's a bit pricey (ok, more than a bit.) but it looks really nice!

That looks like the stuff I wear... but not as stylish as mine are all black. My choices were black or black, so I chose black.

I really love the black halter neck skirted one. I always feel very uncomfortable and self conscious in a typical swimming costume. But that one would cover enough for me to feel more confident.

I love Taryn's comment

The Duggars swimming episode was interesting. The boys wore tops. They were at a friend's pool. I want to add that one of the feminists' agenda is to have 100% of adults pay taxes. In other words, they don't like that a stay-at-home grandmother(55) watches the grandchildren. They prefer that the children go to daycare(where they get sick more often and then the mothers have to take off of work).

WTF has the so called feminist agenda and taxes have to do with swimsuits?

The LDS site is a breath of fresh air in the stale atmosphere of most 'modest' swimwear. These people actually seem to care about style as well as modesty. Except my mother wouldn't want me wearing them because they're teh ebil two-piece with the remote possibility of the shirt riding up.

It's really too bad that these things haven't caught on more widely -- bear wtih me!!! -- for instance, today I was talking with a darlin' old lady who misses swimming, but who's embarassed by the multitude of dark spots that show on the fragile skin on her legs. If she had such a suit - not necessarily a wetsuit, just a nice swimmable pair of pants and a top - she could enjoy the water without self-consciousness. Heck, she could enjoy it, period!

Easily solved! hand sew a couple of snaps in front, back and on each side and your'e good to go!
