Steve's not just cruel, he's also dense...

Whilst being a nasty, condescending prick toward Rebecca K, Steveo Maxwell also displayed his true density further down the comments...

My mom was named after her mother. I’ve heard some members of the older generation refer to her as Junior, but only during conversations where they needed to distinguish between Mom and her mother. (“So you had Thanksgiving at Junior’s house, then?â€)

Thanksgiving was at our house.

I just figured out what it is about Steve that is so telling:

He never "smiles with his eyes." I'm not talking Tyra Banks stuff, here. I'm talking the fact that though the corners of his mouth are pulled up and out, and his teeth are bared, and his chin is held up a little higher -- there is no light in his eyes, no real crinkles around the corners of his eyes.

Can someone please explain to me what is strange or funny about this? Would it make more sense if I read the entire blog entry? Just not seein it.

All of his comments about Chris and NRAnna's baby in that entry seem kind of brusque. Weird. Why bother blogging if you're not interested in being friendly to your readers?

Yes, that's exactly it. I've always thought that even on smiling pictures, he still doesn't look like he is smiling.

I know that Terri was depressed when the kids were small, but I wonder if Steve has been/is depressed too.

I'm kind of new to the Maxwell-universe... has Steve always been so rude to readers? If not, I think his depression can explain that... if he is indeed depressed... if not, then he's just a genuine snob (what's sad is that I know another fundy who acts JUST like Steve is doing... which makes me sad in a way, because it's just a plain sad way to live.. imo. By acting snobby like that, you'll just turn people off and you'll really miss out on things).

Steve is... brusque. Always.

I'm not sure if he's depressed so much as just obsessed with death. Time's a wastin', and he has to run run run to keep up with his religious studies, he likely doesn't have time for you.

Steve also wants nothing to do with women who aren't Teri, because it's just way too easy to cheat. He can't have a normal business lunch with a woman in a conservative suit, even. Get angry (to himself, at least) when a guest to their house wore a shirt that was cut slightly roomy around the neck because goodness, shouldn't she have known she was tempting him? Get with the program, woman, sort of feel.

Most of the commenters to the Maxwell blog are women with children who admire the Maxwell lifestyle and want to emulate it at least in part, they use the Chore Packs and MOTH and make comments about that. Most of that stuff is actually created by Teri, but it's Steve who moderates the blog. So I suspect at least part of the brusqueness is just a sort of "oh, silly women" attitude coming through. But, that is just pure speculation on my part. (And if that's it, he really should just butt out and let Teri or one of the other women in the household answer the comments.) My speculation is also based on reading the Corners, though. Just check out the attitude in there, its like Teri has some little helpful hints for Moms but the real meat is MY corners, and by the way, these aren't for Moms to read. (Never mind snarky non-religious pants wearing women from three states away, but hey!)

As long as people are more or less sycophantic, they'll either be left alone or get little terse "just the facts ma'am" responses from Steve. But if someone seems to be criticizing, he can turn up the barbs. It's like, hey, look, we're showing you our holy lifestyle, just read it and be encouraged, already, and quit quibbling. Don't make moves like you're going to peek behind the curtain.

Interesting to me is that while Sarah writes most of the posts these days, it's ALWAYS Steve-O answering the comments. Even ones about the Moody books, these days it's all about "I'll let Sarah know you said that" sort of stuff.

As for this post, wow, his parents preferred to be by his sister. I am so not shocked to hear that... makes me wonder though if his sister has a blog, as always! :D

I donno... In the comments for the last posts (month or so) the ole Steve-O seems to be passively-agressively angry? feeling insulted? slighted? Maybe he feels that his holyness is unappreciated be the general populace, i.e. bad product sales, less than enthusiastic audiences in the past few conferences, snarky FJ :D

Something is deffo happening there ;)

Agreed. I think he's feeling unappreciated too.

Ah to be a fly on THAT wall.

HAHAHAHA. almost as good as Taryn!

Speaking of Taryn, did she leave this comment on the post about the Moody book party, or did one of you? I can no longer tell the difference between the crazy and the parody. Evil symbols on their packaging--is she referring the various symbols for kosher, by any chance?

It is always a wonderful thing when children read books, I always want to get books for my cousins.

I like to cook for people but so many companies put evil symbols on thier bag or containers that it is hard for me to locate a good company. My husband likes turkey and I do too.

May God bless your home with books and food.

Amen,

Taryn.

Where is our Taryn translator?

Taryn translator is here! But sadly, I do not think that is our dear Taryn.

Fess up, who was it? (And no, it wasn't me)

Of course it wasn't you, no one would insult your fine abilities of channeling Taryn. You would have done a far better job.

I agree that wasn't Taryn but who was it?

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

You know what I hate most about subtle racism? The gaslighting. Stop cosplaying as a nice person and say it with your chest.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
