A Letter To A Daughter

Wait, what? Women were forced to take their husband's names, but now they should be able to if they so wish? Why don't husbands have to change their names? Why is there so little expectation for women to change their names but not men?

That letter is absurd. Each person is their own self. I hope the daughter this letter is addressed to keeps being herself and doing her own thing.

As for the naming thing... my boyfriend (who I will likely marry someday) has an interesting, unique last name. My last name is one of the top 5 common last names in the US. He wants my name, I want his name. I'm thinking of doing a hyphenated last name for the both of us to take, but it would be quite the mouthful. I just don't want my generic last name anymore.
