Sister Wives: Season Finale and Surprise Announcement

The more I think about it, the more I suspect Robyn's motives aren't good ones. We've seen how she REPEATEDLY brings up how Meri must be so upset about being unable to have more kids, when it seemed like Janelle and Christine acknowledge that it may be a sensitive subject, but pretty much follow Meri's lead in not discussing/stressing it publicly. Then, Robyn comes in, constantly stealth bragging/sneak insulting Meri with her comments like "this will be so hard for you, since you can't have more kids", "I know Meri is devestated she can't give Kody more kids", etc, when Meri has never really made such statements herself.

Now, if the surrogacy things goes through, Robyn gets a new shiny knife to twist daily- "Meri, come feel my...I mean our...I mean your baby kick!", "Kody is so sweet to take me out in the Lexus to get the foods I crave right now!", "Being able to have a baby is such a wonderful gift from god!"

Plus, I'm sure the near-guarantee of another season won't hurt either. Big score for Robyn, big score for Kodilocks, another loss for the kids, and worst of all, I predict that Meri will get completly screwed in a Faustian bargain.

ah, ok. gotcha.

Has she been to a specialist? Maybe she needs the drug that Melanie Maxwell uses...... With your only child in High School, the last thing most people want is to start over with a baby! Especially when you're in your 40's. (Does anybody know Meri's age?) If it were me, I'd be happy to wait a few years for grandchildren.

Meri was "I believe" 39 in the first season, so she might be 40 now. And "I think" I remember her saying she had been to a lot of fertility docs. This was, to me, why she told Kody there was "no point" in doing in vitro.

And I agree with you, it seems like completely starting over and as someone with two little kids right now, I cannot imagine wanting to start this season of my life all over again 18 years from now, but people do it.

I think she is going to say no too.

Wow, Robyn will have something to hold over, not only the other wives, but Meri. Here she is the newest wife, but she just looooves Meri so much that she would offer to carry her baby, where there has been no sign the other wives have done that. Doesn't that just earn her the perfect wife award. And every time Meri has any issue with her, Robyn can always use that to guilt her into giving in. I think being the gold star self-sacrificing wife trumps being the hot wife for Robyn, and that is her motivation for making the offer.

Well, Meri has already said no to Kody's offer of IVF, and honestly, I hope she says no to Robyn's offer as well. Just let the woman have the peace she's made about her infertility and the joy that she has with her one child and let her be. Just because it makes Robyn and Kody happy does not mean it will make Meri happy. Sweet, yes, but I don't think entirely selfless. :snooty:

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!! That's almost exactly what I said to my husband too. I mean, can you imagine how hard she's had to work and pray to make peace with her infertility? And every time someone brings it up, it must just kill her. Idiots.

I don't think women who believe their whole reason for being on this planet is to produce children can fathom that infertile women often do make peace with their infertility and move past it. Robyn kept going on and on about how her "body was created to give birth", blah, blah, so I wonder if she falls into this category a bit. I have not watched every single episode, but I have never perceived any kind of desperation on Meri's part to have another child. Some regret that things didn't work out? Yes, but her daughter is a teenager, and it may be that she's quite reconciled, and even happy, to accept things as they are. If she didn't feel that way, I don't know why she wouldn't have jumped at Kody's IVF offer, but it kind of seemed like she wasn't that into it.

I don't like Robyn and I'm sure that colors the way I view everything she says, but I would be very suspicious of her motives. Having said that, it seems like Meri and Robyn have bonded in a way that Meri feels that she never did with the other women, which kind of surprised me.

Austin - I totally agree with you. Do you think Meri will ever be able to tell her family that she's totally content with her one daughter? Or would that be a slap in the face of their beliefs?

Anyone who can go through an unmedicated labor and delivery and then offers to do it again for someone else immediately after is fucking amazing to me. I don't love Robin but I do think she is sincere.

Everyone needs to leave Meri the fuck alone about only having one child. She's repeatedly refused to entertain the thought of IVF, and although I'm sure she regrets not having more children, that doesn't automatically mean she's in a place in her life right now to start raising a brand new child! This idea that she is incomplete with only one child drives me INSANE, as does the way Robyn will. not. stop. harping. on. it. While I think her offer to Meri was sincere, my honest-to-God first thought was that Kody was behind all of this, because he knows if Meri accepts, they are GOLD for another season or two.

And now, Meri is put in the awful, awkward position of possibly having to say no to this offer and risk having everyone else in the family resent her. Or she says yes and has a child she doesn't really want or need at this stage in her life. And seriously, her eggs are OLD now. What are the chances that even IVF would be successful? And WHO is going to pay for it???

On a totally different note, I loved Mariah's pride in the baby quilt she sewed. I loved it when she said, "I've got this!", while she was sewing the blanket.

Yeah, that was beautiful! I hope they use it and don't just hang it on the wall like Robyn said.

Bingo. I do believe that Mari and Robyn are close, and that the offer was sincere on one level. On the other hand, Robyn DOES seem to harp on the infertility in a way that Meri, Kody, Janelle and christine do not. She seems to love to twist the knife a little.

More seasons, more money, more attention from Kody and an iron clad hold over Meri. It's all gold for Robyn.

I think Meri will say "no", and I think that will cause problems and drama in and of itself.

One thing I do like is that the kids are allowed to openly question (albeit in group talking heads) what the eff their family needs with more babies.

Kody may be living his principal but if he's trying to indoctrinate his kids in it, he doesn't appear to be making too much progress.

And leave Hunter alone!

This. I too think Meri will say no. Robyn clearly loves the attention pregnancy brings from Kody and birthing another sister wives' baby!? Well, Robyn would just be eating it up. I also wonder what sort of drama that could stir up among Christine and Jenelle. It's almost as if the Sister Wives are pairing off. Something about Robyn just annoys me. I like the other wives so much more.

I have to give Robin a good deal of credit for offering surrogacy when she's one of those women who experiences nausea throughout pregnancy. I was pregnant for only 9 1/2 weeks, 5 weeks of that with mild hyperemesis and it would be an incredibly unselfish move for me to be pregnant for anyone but myself. I realize Robin wasn't in-the-hospital sick, but it did seem she was nauseated throughout the pregnancy.

I also have to wonder if they go ahead with this, whose eggs do they think they're going to use? It's not going to be easy to get good quality embryos from Meri.

Kody's a major douche, but I will give him credit -- he was a good birth partner. For all her whining and hysteria throughout the show Robyn was amazingly calm during her labor. I also thought the whole birthing scene was well done; I wonder why TLC didn't have Robyn go to the toilet when the big moment came?

Also, what was the announcement -- buying a cul-de-sac? Robyn's surrogacy offer?

It makes me a little sad that this "pairing off" is happening. Before Robyn there was a much better rapport amongst the wives. Now you can see the tension through the TV when they do their group interviews. And I didn't believe Christine's weird apology gift AT ALL- I get that it's better to keep the peace, and that it's not cool to be rude to your new sister wife or whatever, but Christine's feelings of jealousy were completely justified. She was PREGNANT and Kody was off "courting" Robyn. Robyn should have been the one apologizing (forgive me if she already has, I've missed a lot of episodes).

Oh, I totally disagree with that. At least for me. I'm 43...always thought I'd have 3-4 kids. We were blessed with one incredible, amazing son who'll be 15 in January, but I still get the baby blues. I hear screaming newborns when out and all I want to do is hold them.

My son finally stopped asking for a sibling last year, and I think he's be slightly embarassed if it happened now. Because, you know, the whole high school would know his parents have sex!!!!

But I have always felt like someone is missing in our family. Still do and probably always will....... Meri may not talk about it but she may feel the same way.

Interesting because my mom never would let me have two other girls over because "two will end up ganging up on the third" but four girls together were okay. Interesting how having three wives was okay (I actually agree with my mom's perspective!).

I was going off what we saw in season 1- maybe it was just them trying to be all "sisterly" for the cameras in the face of another woman coming into Kody's life, because I agree that with three it's easier for two to gang up on one. I still think their entire world has shifted in a bad way with the addition of a 4th/the TV show mostly because they'd lived so long with just three wives (who all came in before there weren't any kids).

I caught part of this show again last night (I wasn't really pay all that much attention last week) and noted that at two different points, Meri spoke of how close she is to Robyn and implied that not so much with the other two wives. First, she was talking about how when Robyn joined the family, Robyn really wanted a close relationship with a sister wives, and that's what she (Meri) had always wanted but never had. The second time was when she was talking about being very excited about the birth of Robyn's baby and that while she had looked forward to Truley's birth (Christine's baby), she was not nearly as excited as she was for Robyn's baby's birth because she and Robyn are so close.

I thought both comments sounded a little pointed and wondered what is going on under the surface between the wives. Seems like there is something not quite right between Meri and Christine and Janelle. Could be they just never clicked or something, I guess, but then. . . what is the point?

I thought the same. If I were Janelle or Christine and had spent, what, 16 years as Meri's sister wife, and then she made those comments, I'd be pretty hurt. I wonder how long Meri knew Robyn before Robyn married in. It just seems odd.

I have two sisters and it was always 2 against 1. Luckily, who was the one and who was part of the two switched around a lot so no one person was always the odd one out.

Wasn't Meri the one who suggested bringing Robyn into the family in the first place? As I recall, the two women were friends already, and Meri thought Robyn would be a good fit for the family.

Well, that would explain a lot. Because the other two (not that I blame them) seem like they were pretty much over Robyn from day one. If there was tension between Meri and the other two, that might have been all the more reason for them not to want Meri to bring her "ally" into the mix.
