Is the holding violins thing a fundy thing that I don't get?

I'm not understanding that either...my cousin is a violinist, and she usually takes her violin with her... maybe not if she's playing in an orchestra, but if she's just performing at church or for recital or whatever, no one really leaves their instruments up there...

I think it's because they never used them...

ETA - OMG, did you guys see Josiah at the end, mockingly returning the stupid salute? That was awesome.

Oh Oh! And the time they went to the diamond field and boob had to contradict the guide on how long it takes to make diamonds!

Maybe the time can be shortened if you force your kids to remain virgins until their mid 20s and let them shove coal up their ass?

that's bad. I like it. How long did the fool say it took?

I think you'll find all the Duggar girls have an unhealthy interest in pickles...

Oh my, what a defrauding picture!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the time Jim Bob said Michelle had several boyfriends as a teenager and thus a lot of "baggage" early on in their relationship as an argument for why courting is better than dating.

I didn't like the way she was already learning to hide her body as if it was something shameful, even in front of her family. She's 2, for goodness sake, she should be allowed to run around in her underwear!

Oh, okay, sorry I thought you were commenting on her pretending to breastfeed, not the nursing cover. My bad!

I've often wondered about Michelle's former boyfriend (s). I'd love to know what they think of her now. I often wonder if Michelle did more than just kissin' before she married JimBlob.

I'd imagine so... why else would JB be so weird about it? From what I gathered reading 20 and Counting they both seemed to have relatively normal 1970s childhoods, and I'm pretty sure kissing wasn't THAT scandalous.

Jim Bob was just jealous that he wasn't the first person to kiss Michelle... he got the cheerleader, yes, but maybe he had never been kissed before then, and thats why he was upset lol

Yeah, IIRC, Michelle was the first human girl Boob ever kissed. I'm sure he had a blow up doll hidden somewhere. That's why he's brainwashed her about possibly defrauding a married neighbor who was never confirmed to have actually SEEN her mowing the lawn in her bikini top and Daisy Dukes and kissing a couple boys before they started dating when she was 15. THAT WHORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111one11eleventybillion

Not an episode from the show, but all this reminded me of the the first time I ever came across the Duggar family, in this clip from 2008:

The utter absurdity of having them walk onto stage holding violins, sing, then leave the stage still holding their violins never quite left me. For simple people of God who don't care for the opinions of the world, that's some pretty devious image-manipulation.

(Although to be honest what really stayed with me was Dougie's evening dress, which beautifully encapsulated two significant parts of his personality by being (a) more formal than anything anyone else in the room was wearing, and (b) wrong.)

Dang, that was at Dougie's 2006 film festival. Mullet wasn't even showing with Hannie yet; she was born in October that year.

My husband would die if he heard that bastardization of his favorite song from The Sound of Music. Hell, Dougie would be fine with the actual lyrics which are nationalistic enough.

At first viewing, I didn't even recognize Josh. I thought it was perhaps another presenter at the conference, helping out by holding the youngest. He was a fairly goodlooking (and slim!) young man. Hilarious that they hold their violins yet never play a single note. What was that about?

Everyone else has already mentioned what I felt were the worst moments. I think the two worst for me are wheeling poor Grandpa Duggar out on an office chair/filming his funeral, and Michelle filming her son's excruciating agony. I think JimBob demonstrated some real passive aggressive behavior toward his own father by basically forcing him to be filmed while dying. I doubt Mr. Duggar really wanted to be filmed but was incapable of saying no. And it was disrespectful to the utmost to film at his funeral.

Their NOT playing their violins may have been the highest point of the entire series...
