Fun fact. Europe has the highest rate of fall related injuries in the world due to all the cobblestone. I felt justified keeping my Vans on everywhere I went after learning that statistic

A friend of mine was in Greece, wearing sneakers, and slipped on ice-like marble breaking the wrist that broke her fall. Had to wait until she returned to the States to get proper surgery on it. FYI for the non-American contingent, most US-issued health insurance does not cover illness/accidents occurring while overseas (or Canada for that matter).

If a fully-aware 40-something can have a freak accident like that while sight-seeing at a popular tourist destination, it's a freakin' miracle that none of the Duggars injured themselves. The Josie deal, once it plays out on the telegraphed VSE, will be down there amongst the low points, just for the ignoramuses taking along a baby that the ISRAELI doctors called something to the effect of "immunity compromised."

I want to know the name of the doctor who cleared Josie to go on this trip and give him/her a piece of my mind. I guess if you grease enough palms, you can get the answers you want (cue Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack...he's the secular version of Dim Bulb, down to being real-estate investors).

You know Josh and Anna ruined it for the rest of the fundy courting world. Now none of the kids can even touch, and in many cases, sit cheek to cheek next to each other.

In the Good moments category I would like to add:

Josiah picking wildflowers for the girls when the bus was broken down on the way to the ATI conference. Because it's just great.

one or two posts would not make a good post,

Dawniecakes, who is that in your avatar? It sort of looks like Allison Hannigan. Lily from "How I Met Your Mother." Is it?

Ah too late. If it dies an early death, so be it :)

My avatar is me from our Mad Men-themed Halloween Party :)

Oooh, well I must say you are lovely! I'm defrauded. ;)

Mine will reimburse me...it just means i have to have enough money on the spot to pay for treatment, hence my hand little supply of ear infection/tummy bug remedies in my suitcase!

Even our Canadian health care doesn't cover us out of the country. Every traveller should purchase special short term insurance if you don't have it already. I don't leave home without my CAA or Blue Cross travel package. Cheaper than the alternative!

Not even German healthcare covers me outside the EU and I'm not even positive about outside of Germany.

I have a special short term insurance, as MrsYoungie pointed out. It's 6 or 8 weeks a year wordlwide and I think it was 8€ a year. Well worth it.

For the year in the US I had to buy a whole different special insurance.

How could I have forgotten Anna stating it was environmentally ok to drive a Hummer because her baby wore cloth diapers?

The worst moments for me were:

-Grandpa being wheeled-out for his b-day (hated the fact that we saw him laying on his bed earlier, what about privacy??)

-Baby Mackynzie pretending to nurse her doll under a "breast cover-up" while Anna nursed her sainted little brother. I mean, we get it that gender roles are codified very early in that family, but come on!

-Jason's injury with Michelle whooping-it up for the camera.

-All aboard the baby train! Yurk.

-Anna and Josh's wedding.

Oh, and how can I forget the recent episodes where they showed the kids throwing up in the bus. And last but not least, in fact I'm surprised that I hadn't thought of it earlier because I remember being very upset when I first saw it, is when dumb Amy and most of them ran after the sheep in TN. You never, ever do that: sheep can die from this! Their lack of respect for the animals and the environment is astounding.

Plenty of children (even little boys) "nurse" their dolls. They see mommy doing it and want to do it too. How is it any different than pretending to feed a baby doll a bottle?

I didn't like the way she was already learning to hide her body as if it was something shameful, even in front of her family. She's 2, for goodness sake, she should be allowed to run around in her underwear!

Exactly...It's the "you're a girl, you gotta hide it" that made me go "ugh?".

The announcement of #20 and the mystery of what happened with Josiah. :(

Posted

-the showing the ordeal of Josie's birth/first days of life

-the announcement of #20 was bad - you could tell a lot of the kids (especially some of the younger ones) were not happy at all.

A very early "ask the duggars" episode where josh gets angry that people think they're all alike... Then goes on to say that they have different interest, such as jinger liking pickles.

Their behavior in the restaurant in the first dc episode

Any episode where josh speaks

I think you'll find all the Duggar girls have an unhealthy interest in pickles...

As for Josh... have you seen the one that he presented? I think it was 16... anyway, he was actually quite a good presenter, and came across as reasonably nice if I remember rightly. It may have been edited but the douchey side wasn't visible at all, which made me wonder what happened between 16 and 17 children to make him such an arse.

i remember that...wow Josh has changed so much. He was a defrauding young man at that point. I wonder if Anna looks back and wonders what the hell she ended up with....

Yeah, he used to scrub up pretty well with all the exercise involved in building a house. Though he was getting tubby when Anna was around, and since she thinks raspberry cake bars are 'healthy' she can't be suprised he isn't so toned any more.

Not an episode from the show, but all this reminded me of the the first time I ever came across the Duggar family, in this clip from 2008:

The utter absurdity of having them walk onto stage holding violins, sing, then leave the stage still holding their violins never quite left me. For simple people of God who don't care for the opinions of the world, that's some pretty devious image-manipulation.

(Although to be honest what really stayed with me was Dougie's evening dress, which beautifully encapsulated two significant parts of his personality by being (a) more formal than anything anyone else in the room was wearing, and (b) wrong.)

Is the holding violins thing a fundy thing that I don't get?
