What do the Duggars eat?

I have to ask, I don't have cable to watch.

So what do the Duggars eat anyway? I know of the dreaded TTC and an excess of ramen and enough processed foods to fill a small warehouse, but what generally makes for breakfast, lunch and dinner? And what about the rest of the sort of people we discuss? Is there a standard sort of diet craze or what?

I could go scour the blogs but I figured I'd ask first because someone here might know right off.

Just thinking about stuff you see on the shows I think they eat a lot of cereal for breakfast. Sometimes eggs and turkey bacon. Lunch seems to be a lot of easy things like Jim Bob's BBQ tuna (makes me want to puke) and ramen. Dinner seems to be a lot of casseroles.

Since they buy 15 dozen eggs per week, they might get eggs for breakfast. Some turkey bacon once in a while. I think the little girls get instant oatmeal.

Lunch seems to be sometimes canned soup and sammies, usually cheese or lunch meat.

Dinner seems to be TTC, frozen lasgana and chickenetti. I have seen them used bagged lettuce for salads.

I think I've heard them say the girls "make" pizza, but I don't know if that means they pull out frozen pizzas and shove them in the oven, or actually make them (which, btw, takes less time than ordering from Domino's, and will convert you forever from that cardboard crap). I know they eat pickles a lot - guess that's not too hard :D , and I think they've occasionally served "salad," which appears to be mostly iceberg lettuce and tomatoes.

Didn't Michelle scramble an ostrich egg one time? Although I can't remember why she had it. Or am I mixing up shows? I watch a lot of Food Network.

They make a lot of home made bread...and Joy made brownies in one episode.

I think Michelle did the ostrich egg thing one time, and said it tasted 'healthy'...

I remember the ostrich egg!

I use packaged salad, too. Um. Is that bad?

All that "home made" bread, brownies, cake stuff seem to be mixes to me.

Do you mean making from a pre-made base, or making the pizza dough from scratch too? Because I've made pizza dough from scratch, and I wouldn't say it takes less time than ordering from Domino's. When I do it, it's usually an hour an a half from "I feel like garlic focaccia" to taking it out of the oven. It's good, and incredibly cheap, but it does take time (but then, you can do other things while the dough is rising, or I guess you could make some dough and keep it in the fridge for when you get that urge.)

I wonder why they don't keep their own chickens for eggs. This would be budget friendly and wholesome/educational.

Seriously. And it would be a better and more useful "jurisdiction" for one of the howler monkeys than "upstairs hallway." We are a family of four with 6 hens, and we get 2-2.5 dozen a week. This enables us to have as many as we'd use and keep some friends in fresh eggs. My kids take care of the hens and gather the eggs and are "tipped" by the neighbors for bringing them eggs. If the Duggars had a couple dozen hens they could save themselves some money and the kids would actually learn something halfway useful.
