The Regretsy Connection?

First off, I'm so glad to have found this forum! I obsessively read homeschool/fundie blogs but I had no one in my life who shared my passion until now! OK, that's over with. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed all of the Etsy giveaways for getting to a certain number of "followers"? It always looks like the same cheap (cute) crap:

Anyway, every time I see one of these posts I think immediately of Regretsy! Almost everything that they give away could be featured on a post like this one:

I just love that these giveaways to thank the followers probably cost about $0.20 to make.

A blog I looked at was giving away a book and some magazine that sounded kinda fundie - wonder if a non-fundie would ever win or ever enter.

Oh I love Regretsy! I'm an occasional Etsy and Folksy seller of things that I GENUINELY MAKE MYSELF, ALL BY MYSELF, AND THUS SELL ALL BY MYSELF and it really pisses me off when I find sellers who are selling mass produced crap as something they have made themselves. I think it devalues the work of genuine crafters.

I sell vintage. It drives me insane when I see something from The Gap or Forever21 on etsy, listed as vintage, and the seller has 5000+ sales. ARGH!

So far, most of my transactions on Etsy have been for vintage items, so my experience has been good. I love Regretsy and am amazed/appalled by what people think they can sell.

Wow, those rings are so unique. ;)

The other day I saw a pair of suede boots on etsy that were listed as "vintage" but they still had the plastic size sticker on the bottom - they were probably bought from Target

I was at Michael's this past Saturday perusing the jewelry making aisle. A lot of the items at these fundie blogs look like the pendants and earring items at Michaels. They are probably not hand-crafted from scratch. There is no problem with utilizing these items to make your own jewelry. I bought a really cute hand-painted boho pendant that I'm going to make into a necklace for one of my girlfriends.

My sister's friend makes her own glass beads. I saw a documentary on crafting and one of the crafters showcased was a woman who made her own glass beads. After seeing the intricate care it takes to make just one bead, I now know why my sister's friend charges a pretty penny for her wares.

Oh, and does anyone want to buy a mug from one of the most odious bloggers on the Interwebs? It's only about 16 bucks.
