Boycott everything Duggar

I am going to boycott everything Duggar- cancel my People magazine, if they are on the cover, I have not watched the show for years because it is like watching paint dry, so I am blocking TCL on TV, find out all the sponsors on the show and quit buying their products. I am not going to reward bad behavior any longer. Who is with me on this?

Is there a way to find out who their sponsors are? (besides watching the show...screw that)

There are sites that list the sponsors for scripted TV shows. But I'm not sure about reality shows.

I have to admit that I will probably watch the show, but I will watch it during the encore airings that come out at midnight. TLC's main focus is getting the best ratings during the original airing hours.

The Duggars/TLC may see a ratings increase but only a small percentage of viewers buy the DVD sets and the books.

I have seen commercials for Playtex bras during the show last summer. I have never bought or plan to buy Playtex bras. The Duggars watch their show through DVD's TLC gives them, so they probably aren't aware of some of the commercials that air during their show. They would have been defrauded if they saw the Playtex ad.

Also, you need to make it more public, I think. Post it on your faceook, make it a movement. Otherwise it's probably hard to make the movement.

It may be worth watching the closing credits of their show to see who receives a thank you for sponsorship. Or see if you can spot obvious product placement in the show. I'm not entirely sure how sponsorship works, but it's possible that some advertising dollars are given to TLC in general, and the network decides how the commercials are divvied up. That may explain how the Plan B commercials end up airing during the Duggar's show.

Or it could be a spot of marketing brilliance by the makers of Plan B. I know watching the Duggars would make me run for the birth control.

There has been ratings decline this past year with the show. There could be an increase of people will watch just to observe the family as a case study.

I laugh at the fact Plan B has been adveristed during the show. As I mentioned before the Duggars probably have no idea about the AD's that run during the TLC airings. I do wonder if Deanna and Amy watch the show on cable or satellite because they would realize that some of the products, movies and other things advertised during the show are things that the Duggars would be against. Lately when I have watched the show I don't pay attention to some of the commercials. I recall a couple of weeks back some of the commercials were Sara Lee products and I sort of remember a toothpaste commercial. This summer I remember during one episode, a promo for the Glee concert movie aired a couple of times. The Duggars probably don't know what Glee is, but I bet some of their fans were pissed about that being promoted during 19 kids.

I actually have a monitored box and make it a point not to watch the show until the 8th day, which is when it no longer counts towards ratings. I'm seriously considering writing on TLC's wall and letting them know that I will no longer watch anything on their network so long as that show is on.

I actually think this will end their show faster. TLC will show the birth because viewers have morbid curiosity, but TLC will get a lot of flack for this and they'll drop the show after the birth to distance themselves. I'm surprised by the pregnancy because I thought JB would wait until they are out of the public eye to have another that they could pretend was an accident.

There are too many others soaking the shit up. I personally only ever watched a couple of the specials. I don't know anyone personally who watches their show or buys their crap. Admittedly, my small circle of people doesn't amount to much, but for everyone who puts them on ignore, there are others who go out of their way to suck up everything they have to sell. They won't stop until their show is no longer their source of income, and/or until the media stops flocking to them like they are special. When Today refuses their next 'special announcement', when TLC says their show is done...maybe then they'll start to fade away. And even then it's only maybe. I'm sure they've learned a thing or two about how to market themselves in all their years in the world of media pimping. God himself could tell them to stop and they wouldn't. It's a drug to them and the cannot - and will not - go on without it.

I cut off my satellite service 2 years ago. Part of my subscription fees were going to discovery/tlc. I won't go back to subscription TV service until all reality shows involving minors are off their line up.

I've been boycotting the show for a long time, but I am ready to boycott sponsors now. This is ridiculous. What if this poor baby has lifelong disabilities just because his/her parents were determined to reach the 20 mark?

It's not like they take decent care of the other kids. I don't know how J'uterus can justify not parenting her own kids.

When the older kids are in a real college and allowed to make their own relationship decisions while Michelle is scrubbing the floors, cooking for 20 and getting kids dressed in the morning, then I will watch. Maybe.

But I've seen commercials for Plan B air during 19 Kids and Counting. Boycotting THAT would be a tad counterproductive . . .

Plan B advertises during the Duggar's TV show?!

Damn, I guess I will start boycotting Duggar threads from now on, unless I see the words Duggar girl engaged!

Genuine sponsorships of a program are indicated with a "Brought to you by" and usually a company/product logo, followed by an advertisement for that company/product. Just running a spot in a program does not in any way indicate sponsorship.

The Plan B spots, for example, most likely did NOT specifically buy the Duggar timeslot, but had either bought a range of hours that happened to have the program in them OR had a deal that their spots could run anywhere on TLC programming. I suspect the ad trafficker (who places all the commercials within the program schedules) of being snarky and including the Plan B spot in Duggar programming accidentally-on-purpose. (It's what I do for a living and I would have KILLED for such an opportunity.)

They weren't just commercials for Plan B though. They did actually sponser one of the special episodes, either a birth or the wedding.

I'm quite angry that the older girls are going to have another baby to raise. Michelle doesn't spend much the with Josie. Even being a micro preemie and special needs doesn't get you much attention. #20 won't be any different. Child labor laws should come into play.
