Worried about Baker's Dozen Mom....

I'm glad they're dieting and getting more exercise but she sounds really run down, especially since her little guy is so chronically sick.

If you have lots of kids and a very sick baby who can't sleep, how would you deal with that? (Other than the Duggar approach by making the eldest daughter deal with it).

I dunno- I only have 3 kids, and right now they are healthy, but for some reason one of them can't sleep at night this week. She is up multiple times a night fussing and trying to get back to sleep. I've dealt with it by being in a foul mood all day and yelling at the kids. I definately wouldn't pick right now to get back into running. Tonight goal- sleep more. Yell less tomorrow. We'll see.

edited to remove dancing banana. i don't know how i ended up with dancing banana....

I'm not surprised she's tired, even if Apollo wasn't dealing with the health issues he has. Wish there was something we could do to help. I seriously love her blog- and like that she keeps it real, temper tantrums and filthy carpet and all. Much better than the sanitized picture painted by largefamiliesonpurpose.

At least she has several older helpful children (she doesn't seem to treat her kid like Duggar-slaves, and everyone seems to pitch in with stuff like meal prep, boys included), she's sent one of her children to public school, so I don't know what more she could do. It sucks having a baby wake up that many times at night - I know, mine does too. I'm just so. damn. tired. all. the. time.

I really hope they are able to figure out what Apollo's health problems are - I can't even imagine how stressful his ongoing health issues must be.

When I am tired and stressed, I generally worry about getting much needed rest first - before I worry about dieting and exercising. SOmetimes your body is telling you something and you just have to listen.

Yeah, my mom mentioned to doctors for years that she was struggling with inappropriate fatigue, and had it dismissed as normal for her lifestyle. Turns out she had heart problems that were being completely overlooked. I hope Renee will keep pressing until she gets the answers she needs for herself, as well as for the baby.

The amount of food they're cutting out in favor of the juicing is kind of frightening. The husband's only eating one non-juice meal each day and lost 14 pounds in a week - isn't 1-2 pounds supposed be the safe number? She wanted to do a full juice fast but thank God realized that was a bad idea with breastfeeding. I still don't understand how basically not having many important nutrients and food groups would be a good idea for someone already feeling bad.

She also cut out wheat in addition to dairy (which there was at least a reason for). They may be feeling better for now but in the long term cutting out food groups like that without a dietician's help can be dangerous: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/2144997.stm

she's eating lots of beans hence carbs. So cutting wheat won't be a big problem IMO.

But yeah 14 pounds is not good unless it was retention water... I hope they can get an earlier apointment with the pulmonologist. I like her family although she did take her daughters to an above rubies retreat, and has some bits of fundism coming out once in a while.

I watched that same documentry. My take from it? That it was an awfully slick and entertaining commercial.

yeah I wanted to watch it but after the reviews on amazon (it's on amazon prime) I decided not to!

This.

They definitely have the fundie streak, what with the Above Rubies retreat and all, but I appreciate that they send their kids off to do things that interest them, they have two (or three?) kids in JobCorps, have sent one of their special needs kids to public school because they thought it would be better for him etc. They certainly are no Maxwells.

But I can't understand why someone who seems to make such rational decisions could handle Nancy Campbell and her wooooombing for three seconds let alone for a whole weekend.

edited for a riffle
