I agree with the curtains. A pale green colour maybe? :) Some light colour to lighten up the room.

Something to put on the walls would be nice. Maybe this Recycled Book Page Sunburst Mirror: creativejewishmom.com/2010/05/make-a-recycled-book-page-sunburst-mirror.html or this Recycled Toilet Paper Roll Wreath: creativejewishmom.com/2010/06/recycled-toilet-paper-roll-wall-decor.html

Thanks so much for linking this! I tried to do the sunburst mirror and failed and just made a plain mirror with mosaics around it, but I just did the wreath and it came out so great! I'm going to post a picture on the home thread in Off Topic! :)

I'm a walking anger machine but that has nothing to do with my participation here. I've followed for longer than the anger has been present and participated in other similar forums with similar topics for several years.

Wait. I take that back. My anger, at this moment, does have to do with what I read here. This woman and her family are the by-products of what Dougie and those like him make big bucks promoting. Patriarchy, lots of kids, no insurance from the ebil gubment, homeschooling - all of it. While Dougie and the Botkins and Browns and Botkins and all the other 'royalty' make money off anyone who will listen to them, real families with real limitations are trying to live lives determined by them, or some other religious 'leader' who doesn't give a rat's ass that the average family with the average income can NOT support a baseball team of kids in the pretty manner they plaster all over their propaganda. This woman and her husband bought into the BS that they were sold and they didn't get a receipt.

I don't care how much money they have or don't have or how unappealing her home is to me. It's not about money or things or having a decorating sense or taste or style. It's about buying a bill of goods that was defective from the start, and it was known to be defective, but they still bought it. It's choices in life. They choose to be fundies. They choose their beliefs and the values they believe have to come with those beliefs.

She was gracious about finding FJ. That doesn't mean she is someone I'd want to be neighbors with or hang out with or get to know. Just like the Serven wedding. The pretty outside for the pictures cannot hide the ugly reality that is the entire patriarchy/quiverfull/homeschooling for Jesus movement.

*edited, twice, for bad spelling. Today is not my day for knowing how to spell. Maybe it will be my turn tomorrow.

Holy Crap! :o

I admit, I opened up this post expecting some great tips on decorating! Wow, just wow! Look, I'm not that great with decorating and color schemes and what not, but damn, that was just sad. I don't even want to snark on them because I feel so bad for this family. If they truly believe that that was a great decorating design, I'm just going to back away and pray some family members or friends gift them lots of furniture over the next year!

Goes to look up what "house porn" is because I have no clue.

Yeah, I'm not great at decorating, either. My first apartment was pretty blah, but it didn't look as bad as this girl's. I had a lot of cast-off furniture and didn't have much to put on the walls, everything was beige (walls and carpet), and I never painted because the complex charged $25 per wall to paint anything. I still get annoyed thinking about the time my friend came over and announced "it looks like a bachelor pad." Grrrr.

Now that I have a house I've been trying to make the effort to improve my decorating skills. It's always a work in progress.

nurse nell, we lost everything! luckily my mom used to run a photo studio and we had duplicates made of all the photos she had on file. the hard part was items like the rubber doll i got when i was 3 months old, my son's hat from the nicu, things like that. those can't be replaced.

luckily, there were no casualties except for our fish.

It's those little things, usually of little monetary value, that matter the most. Yeah, we shouldn't be so attached to such things but we are. I have 1 childhood toy left, my teddy bear. I would really miss him. Glad you got some photos replaced. You should ask all your families and friends if they have any old photos. Scanning today is great, you might be able to get some more that way.

deliberatedoodles.wordpress.com/2011/09/06/people-need-jesus/

I know very little about this lady, but I am not sure I feel bad for her. The tone of this entry, which begins by poking fun at the words and actions of an elderly neighbor who "does not know Jesus," really rubbed me the wrong way.

In her October 4th entry, which is a plug for Samaritan Ministries, she writes that many of her readers should remember her children's medical emergency from 18 months ago. Her archives only go back to September 2011. Does anyone know where she used to blog?

She is asking other people to sign up for Samaritan Ministries so she can benefit from their affiliate program and offset her costs. deliberatedoodles.wordpress.com/2011/10/04/samaritan-ministries/

Anyone hawking Scamaritan Ministries loses a lot of pity in my book.

Ok I clearly came into this late, but I agree with other commenter is she seemed to take the snarking pretty well.

So if you are still lurking, really I want you to consider how Scamaritan Ministries doesn't actually reflect anything the Good Samaritan did. Remember he helped a Jew. Jews were generally at odds with Samaritans. He didn't just take care of people just like him, which is how the Scamaritan Ministries requirements are. And he didn't require that the Jew be part of cost sharing group to get help.

He covered every single thing of a man he did not know, who looked bad and who was very different from him. Remember that the parable of the Good Samartian was told by Jesus to Luke and consider whether your encouraging of Scamaritan Minitries fits within the lesson Christ was teaching.

They are bad, money hungry people who run it.
