The latest blog entry is some dumb promotional/testimonial for One Ton Onramp, but I think that's a new logo, isn't it? Anyone know?

BTW, just LOVE that authoritarian look both Nathan and Joseph have with their seriously crossed arms. WTF? Is that the Maxwell version of the Dougie wide-legged stance? Look at us, we are strongly crossing our arms! We can be trusted! And we're manly, too! So pay us money!

Yes, the new logo is so terrible as to pop out. I was struck by the 'manly' poses too. All that forearm on display... shocking!

Okay, but because I'm a complete snark, I have to point out that the new logo refers to the company as "iT ON RAMP" (that's lower-case i, capital T, then ON RAMP in all caps). Which, granted, is easier to discern the intended pronunciation and the logo is a clever enough so that most people reading it for the first time would know how to pronounce it.

But then, in fatalistic Maxwellian style, they continue to refer to it as "ITonRamp". Um, One Ton Ramp. So if you'd never seen information on their site before, wouldn't you be scratching your head wondering really how to pronounce it?

Canadians, better watch out! They may bring Uriah back to destroy more of your roads! It might get stuck so bad they'll have to stay with you!!

I was just coming here to post that. I don't get why they don't spell it "IT On-Ramp." It would make much more sense, and no one would have thought of 1 Ton Ramp.

That logo is horrible, but at least it clearly distinguished the IT from the "on ramp."

And the manly stances - they look so damn smug. Nathan is looking really bald and puffy. [/shallow]

Here are some tidbits from the FAQ's of ITon ramp:

"For years our hearts have gone out to single moms struggling to provide for their families. We are hopeful that ITonRamp will facilitate single mothers in their ability to provide for their families. IT work often receives higher wages than other jobs. At the least, single moms will able to earn extra income working from home by reloading computers and removing malware and viruses from them."

"Young women will also find ITonRamp courses useful. It can be a struggle to productively stay busy as young women wait on the Lord for a marriage partner. It is not our goal to provide a career as such for young women, but to help them be productive with their time as the Lord Jesus directs. IT work can give excellent opportunities to earn significant self-employed income in a safe, non-corporate environment and have skills that will facilitate a future marriage, especially if the future husband is self-employed."

"At this point we anticipate the mentors to be men. To enable propriety and no possibility of defrauding, direct phone conversations will be from a person of the same gender. Therefore, if there are ladies in a track, the phone call to them will be via a female mentor assistant. The mentor assistant will not have the technical experience that the mentor has, but she will provide the one-on-one personal encouragement that the mentor would have provided. Since, the forum is the place for technical questions, this will not be a hindrance in any way."

that's the Maxwell's - always looking out for ways to help the "little woman"

I feel so nice and protected. It's such a blessing to have men do all my thinking for me.

I know what we're all doing here, but what I wonder is why we're all providing good ideas on improvements for them?

I mean, I feel personally responsible for supporting that Bradrick creature by laughing at the Nazi-esque first logo for BRADRICK.ORG.

He changed it and apparently erased all history of it from teh webz (how very Stalin-esque!) and I didn't think to save a copy.

BTW, FWIW, Teri/Steve: I'm a woman who appreciates a good set of arms on a man, and Joseph's are not [\i]all that. Not close. :)

And really, what's with the "ON RAMP"?

It should either be "ON-RAMP" (the proper reference to an entrance lane for traffic) or OnRamp (which is acceptable in advertising to avoid using a hyphen).

Just sayin'.

 I still can't get over that...it reads like a snarky joke. What woman would ever read that and consider it to be acceptable? Hell, why would anyone take their course when they know the Maxwells have that kind of bias built right in? And that doesn't even take into account the fact that you can get those courses from more knowledgable instructors for less money elsewhere.

I don't even get what "on ramp" is supposed to mean. Is it something obvious that I just don't get??? :?

I think it's supposed to imply that you can get on their on-ramp and in no time be up to speed with the rest of the IT world.

The thing about small businesses and fundies: I was reading (I think in the NYT?) that a nation's general socioeconomic status can be predicted by the level of small vs. large businesses. Whatever the problems may be with corporations, people who live in nations where most are employed by larger corporations and/or the government have a higher standard of living than those who live in nations where there is a higher level of small business employment . Larger businesses are more efficient, so more productive, so more goods to be spread around. Advocating a world of entrepreneurship might be advocating a return to being a developing nation. After reading that, I take pause whenever fundies rail on and on about not working for the man.

I am a self-employed person, so I get why it is sometimes cool. I guess I am just sayin'.

The mentor assistant will not have the technical experience that the mentor has, but she will provide the one-on-one personal encouragement that the mentor would have provided.

And she will not have this technical experience...why? Because she hasn't taken the courses and learned all this fabulous information for herself? Because she is a woman, and all the information falls out of her head every time she thinks about the new dress she is sewing?

So, she can't provide any useful information, but she will encourage all those young ladies who are looking for something to do while they wait for a man to rescue them from their dungeon of spinsterhood..."I'm sorry, I can't tell you how to change your font style, but you did such a good job of dialing the phone and asking me your question! I think it is just amazing that you thought of doing that when you didn't know what else to do!"

Da stoopid...it burnz...(but damn, it's funny at the same time) The best (and the worst) part is that these guys don't have a clue. Like Smuggar Duggar, they truly think they are incredibly talented, savvy businessmen.

And then, if you go to the One Ton Onramp web page, you get all sorts of good snark-worthy stuff!

itonramp.com/

Like the same photo of Nathan with Stevie in the background, both crossing their arms. Because that's MANLY! And shows confidence!

And then there's this whole bit:

YOUR ROAD TO

TECHNICAL COMPUTER

TRAINING, PRACTICAL

SKILLS, A JUMP-START

TO INCOME DEVELOPMENT

Sooooo much to say here.

First, the way these lines are broken apart makes this completely unreadable. Did anyone test this website (who wasn't a Maxwell) before it was published?

So, One Ton Onramp is a road TO technical computer training? So, this is going to lead someone to find technical computer training? Or is is PROVIDING technical computer training?

It probably IS a road to practical skills. So I'll leave that one alone.

But it's a road to a jump-start in income development? Or is it just a road OR a jump-start to income development? Pick one, Maxwells!

And I love how they did the strikethrough on the first Home Track session. Creating demand! Hurry, time is limited! Get registered now for the next session! Before it's too late!

And finally, one of the black tabs across the top is called ITreport. I'm sorry but I read that as "itrapoor", you know, like French (think it-rapport). It's totally distracting for me. But that might be my brain.

Okay, anyone else?

Well, looks like they didn't check their display on Internet Explorer, because all the text that should be at the very bottom of the webpage displays right across the middle in IE, obscuring the other information there.

And then there's this:

Instead of using just "instructors," we employ mentors. A mentor is someone with a verified skill-set in the area they are teaching. In addition, they have lives founded on the Lord Jesus Christ.

So, apparently instructors do not have verified skill sets in the area they are teaching? And having a life founded in Jesus Christ somehow improves your computer skills? Or mentoring skills? Unless, of course, you are a woman, in which case you can only ever be a "mentor assistant," which is another name for cheerleader.

And the stoopid goes on...anyone who actually pays these people money DESERVES to be fleeced...

Well, it's too early to say how the business is doing. The fact that Nathan has remodeled his basement seems to imply they are in for the long haul. I'm glad the Maxwells have managed to find a nonpreachy way to stay in business but their stuff really is overpriced. Their books and scheduling stuff and now this IT on ramp thing all cost more than their secular/real world counterpart and there's less substance. I guess that's the drawback of their own small business where they make their products from scratch....they can't lower the price through the economy of size. Still, they manage to fill a niche for fundies who want to employ other fundies. Christopher Maxwell did it with his photography, Nathan can do the same for those fundies too fearful to thread the....local Barnes and Nobles store.....

Comment from a satisfied customer:

Thus far, the material is very comprehensible, and while challenging, it is also a brain stretching exercise, which I enjoy.

Dear SOTDRT student: Using "thus" is a sign that a writer is trying to convey an inflated sense of intellectualism that always falls flat on its face.

While "comprehensible" is a wor, I'm sure you had to use a thesaurus to find it. "User-friendly" would have worked just fine and fit in with computer jargon.

Lastly, two short sentences would have read far more smoothly than that clunky run-on.

Love,

A person who did not teach you how to write (and had to edit the post to fix an errant quote tag for clarity).

They offer a "A Christ-focused learning environment free of humanistic and evolutionary worldviews."

Thank goodness. Because, you know, there is so much evolution taught in those other, secular computer courses.
