In my own family, all people all kids of the same sex and age mixed up names. So if you are a girl with a sister, one of your aunts, uncles, grandparents will calm you your sister’s name at some point. Same for the boys. So her saying Jubilee instead of Annabel isn’t that surprising. It happens. Especially when you aren’t thinking super clearly due to emotion.

Very true. My mother constantly used to mix up our names with the dogs', so...

When my oldest son was born, I kept calling him the cat’s name! It was so embarrassing.

Last time I visited my brother and his family, he kept mixing up my name with his wife's. Both of our names start with A, and he was constantly saying my name when providing a status update on his wife. Since it was me he was talking to, I would just ask "You mean A-wife, not A-me?" and he confirmed it.

There was a lot going on that trip and in hindsight, I think it's an indicator he was super stressed out. I'm going to keep that in mind next time we're all together and if he starts saying my name when he means his wife, I'll talk privately with him to give him a chance to vent and see if I can help resolve anything.

Thank you, Free Jinger community, I don't know that I would've noiticed the pattern without this thread!

So even tho the extended family already had members named Anna, Joy Anna, Johanna and Jana, Joy was going to/did name her baby Annabelle? A gazillion names to choose from and that’s as creative as she could get?

Most people gave her a pass on the similararity on the name to others as she said it was a nickname of hers when she was little. Prehaps she wanted the little lady to have something of hers to take with her… I personally think it’s a lovely name and gesture. I did twitch my eye they spelled it Annabell until I found out it was a nickname and that’s how they spelt it

There are so many Duggars, and they are reproducing so rapidly, that at some point they’re going to start repeating names. Sooner or later, some Duggar daughter-in-law is going to say “I don’t care that there’s already an (insert Duggar grandchild name) Duggar. That’s my favorite name, and I’ve dreamed of having a child with that name since I was 10. Other Duggars can just get over it.”

The alternative, of course, is that the couple announces the name, is told there’s already a grandchild with that name, and says “There’s already an XXX Duggar? Whose child is that?”

I agree. There will be cousins that rarely ever see each other. The Vuolos don’t see some of the grown Duggars and their kids all that much. Justin lives in Texas so I bet his future kids won’t see some of the Duggar siblings and families that much. There will be some more Duggars that move away. Is it really that big of a deal if you have a cousin with the same name as you that you only see once or twice a year and possibly don’t even talk to when you do see them?

My parents have 5 grand kids total. If two had the same name, it would be weird. Because 40% of their grandkids have the same name. But let’s say the Duggars have 60 grandkids. Is it really that big of a deal if 2 out of 60 have the same name? Nah.

I think the Duggars named their “in heaven” babies differently than their “on Earth” babies. I don’t think Jubilee, Annabell or River Bliss would have been chosen for living babies.

I think that everyone has different opinions on cousins having the same names. My son has the same name as my nephew (family name) and it’s no big deal to us. The Duggars don’t seem to have a problem repeating nicknames: Evy Forsyth and Evy Vuolo. But I can see in a big group of cousins that the parents are looking for ways for their kids to be recognized as individuals by having unique names.

Conversely, there's a Duggar name that I don't think anyone in that family will want to use again.  One guess.

I find it confusing enough with three Nephews names starting with the same letter.... I don't know how they manage with that huge amount of names....

Although it might actually be easier if there are a few kids with the same name - not quite as many to remember.

The Müller family has 2 Calebs born within weeks of each other....

My grandma always called all of us "Whatever your name is". Everyone responds to that.

My grandma had 14 grandchildren and by the time #14 came along, she would call her “little girl.” All of us older cousins would just die laughing. She always remembered our names. But I guess 14 was her limit.

Not sure why, with the history Joy has with Josh, she’d give a baby with the same name as Josh’s wife with bell tacked on the end, even if it was a nickname of hers. (Guess there’s a disconnect). And so meaningful to her that she mistakenly used the name Jubilee instead? Seems like that’s some kind of Freudian slip altho exactly what I can’t wrap my head around.

Iirc she miscarried Annabell prior to the trial. Rumor is she didn’t know any of the details of her own abuse prior to the trial. Even if she had, though, from earier posters it sounds like Annabell was an homage to Joy’s own name and not any kind of link to anyone else’s.

Joy's name is Joy-Anna. I'm sure she felt she needed to call her baby Joy or Anna.

Joy is nearing 25 YO, has been married for 5 years and has been pregnant 4 times (known). The only decent spacing is between Evy and this pregnancy (again we don’t know if she has miscarried in between). This is crazy reproduction. I hope they stop, but with her age that’s not likely.

I've known super religious people who weaved the name "Anna" (i.e., Suzanna, Lilianna, Anna Maria, etc.) into all their daughters' names because Anne was the mother of Mary (as in Jesus, Joseph and Mary).

My husband has four first cousins with the same name as his sister. It was both of their grandmother's names. He also has two first cousins with his name, which was his grandfather's. So I don'5 find repeat names that odd.

Not first cousins, but my cousin and I have children a year apart with very similar names, but one is a boy and one is a girl (think Danielle/Danielle).

My partner inflamed his knee when he was building us a new deck, leading to a diagnosis of bursitis. I nearly told my friends, "the vet said he will be better in six weeks."

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
