Where the Crawdads Sing

Did anyone see this? I read the book and it's at the 2nd run theatre and I'm wondering if it's worth the cost of a pizza and beer. I'm not entirely sure I liked the book - it was interesting, if unrealistic. But it also reminded me a bit of all those YA books I read as a young teen/kid, about children fending for themselves - like Boxcar Children, Homecoming, VC Andrews books, Orphan Train, etc.

No, I haven't seen it and really have no desire to.  I don't know why it seems off-putting, but it does.  Btw, I loved the Boxcar Children when my third grade teacher read them to our class.

I read the book and felt very put off by the portrayal of Black characters. Very wooden, lots of tropes. Then I looked up the author and realized she and her ex are wanted in Zambia:

That was the nail in the coffin-I don’t want to support her.
