A federal judge in Texas ruled that payers don't have to cover preventive services recommended by the US Preventive Services Task Force. Other preventive services such as vaccines, children's wellness screening, women's contraceptives and cancer screenings are still covered. The ruling is expected to be appealed and it may eventually go to the Supreme Court, but it hasn't yet gone to them.

I stand corrected. I've not kept up on it as I should.

I expect though with republican leaning Supreme Court we will get chunks of obamacare dismantled bit by bit.

I'm cynical at this point that they even care what their conspiracy theorist voters think. They're in for power and there's a lot of circumstantial evidence that there's a lot of money swirling around behind the scenes to buy these people as long as they can rile up enough voters to stay in office.

Majory Taylor Greene for example can't be half as stupid as she claims.

And there's all the stuff that's come out about fox news anchors not believing anything they said abt elections.  There's no consequences there. The money behind that isn't concerned because they didn't seem to lose any followers

This right wing streak is down right scary.

The bates are scary because of it. They vote according to whatever nonsense these people spout off cuz they think  it's furthering their agenda. But there's no way, just no way, these career politicians actually buy into that  stuff. They just know an easily.manipulated and riled up voting block.

It's sad. Very sad.

KWLand -what was your win today?

It is scary and sad.  The discourse and division makes it so no side on the hill cares and we all suffer.  It’s like the only thing that links us all, we have a government that can’t get along.

I think my win today was admitting to myself how emotionally bad I am.  I’ve tried therapist after therapist and it hasn’t helped so I’m hopeful tomorrow the pain will be less, since the weather should be stable, and I’ll be in a place to find another option than therapy.   I did tell friends how bad I’m struggling, but they don’t really get it.  If it wasn’t Holy Week I’d reach out to a pastor to talk.  I’ll probably text them tomorrow and ask for extra prayers.  Thanks for asking

Thank you for all replies and explanations. What I make of it all is that the American health care system is sick. Fucked up. If we would have lived in the US we’d be screwed, insurance or not, cause my husband has struggled with his mental health and suffered from a burnout so he would have been unemployed. Cause I guess it’s the same with mental health care? Anyway, I’m thankful for living in a country with a better health care system. I will gladly pay my income taxes, which I assume are higher than in the US.
Oh, btw, education is free over here. I have not had any student loans at all.

One more thing. Why on earth do fundies not advocate for hospital births to be free or at least affordable? Birthing babies are essential to them, right?

I'm an atheist so I won't pray for you.  But I will think about you and hope that tomorrow holds less pain and  a new win. Let us know, I'm sure other people want to hear your wins as well.

It's much worse for mental health. There is sort of a mentality here that mental health is optional. Conservative religious people will say to your face that you must have sinned and that's why you have any health problems, especially mental health. You're not "right with God ."

Another sort of guiding belief that comes from the religious side is the idea that universal healthcare is morally wrong. If people need help they should rely on charity. The government shouldn't provide "charity" or "freebies." People will say that's what charities are for. It shouldn't be "mandated" by the government.   Politicians promote these ideas so that business owners do not have to provide health benefits, sick leave, etc. And they make more money.

Student loans are kind of the same thing. People say that forgiving loans is not morally right. "You took out the loan, you pay it back"

I could have paid my student loans if I hadn't ended up with huge medical debt. "Irrelevant"

They don't consider that having educated professionals in this country is important. I'm in a field that requires a masters degree. It's a high need field. Many in the baby boomer generation are retiring. There's not enough people in the profession. So now there's a shortage. But shame on any of us if we think we should be "rewarded" for going to school for a profession that is very necessary for an aging population.

It's frustrating the double think and the just plain brainwashing that has happened such that Americans think capitalism actually helps them. It's all hidden behind these sort of prosperity gospel ideas of morality.

As to taxes...I believe I've read we pay a similar amount of taxes as many Europeans. It varies some by state. But we get less direct benefits from our taxes. Our taxes support a massive military machine and capitalism/capitalists who pull profits to become billionaires.

Because it sounds like socialism for them. Hardcore capitalism is their true belief, not Jesus (who preached about sharing, btw).

Holy shit. I already knew before the US health care system is bad. I didn‘t know that it‘s designed to make it as hard as possible to get on your feet once you are on the floor. This is… nauseating. I‘m baffled so many people are okay with and vote for those policies.
