CNN just put this up about Robin Williams

Quote

After Robin Williams died by suicide in August 2014, his widow, Susan Schneider Williams, would soon learn about a disease she had never heard of, but one that had haunted both of their lives.

That disease is Lewy body dementia, with which the actor was diagnosed in October 2014 following an autopsy on his brain. "A few months before he passed, he was given a Parkinson's (disease) diagnosis," said Schneider Williams, an artist and advocate for LBD awareness and research, at the Life Itself conference, a health and wellness event presented in partnership with CNN. "But that was just the tip of the iceberg."

The misdiagnosis occurred in May 2014 after Robin had been experiencing severe memory, movement, personality, reasoning, sleep and mood changes.

The comedian had undergone multiple tests to identify his problem, most of which were negative. "None of the doctors knew that there was this ghost disease underlying all of this," Schneider Williams told CNN in an interview. "When that was revealed, that was like essentially finding out the name of my husband's killer."

Yeah he went through hell when his time on Earth came to an end.

My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1998. At the request of her doctor (who was part of a major study), her brain was donated to the study after she died in 2013. The brain autopsy showed that she had mixed dementia- 95% of the damage was from Alzheimer’s, while 5% was due to LBD. When the time comes, my mom and two of her siblings plan on donating their brains to the study as well.

Yeah I think I'll do that too.  One of my paternal grandpa's brothers was found to have Alzheimer's so I'm thinking of having my family donate my brain too in order to determine if there is any dementia that played a role.  (That of course is after my brain causes a whole shitload of malfunctions and other scientific weirdness given that it's an FJ infused brain).

@47of74 that’s great! I’d recommend talking to whichever organization you’re going to donate to.

It’s rather creepy but we have the instructions included in my mom’s file of life on the fridge in case something happens. One of the biggest things is that the brain needs to be removed before the body is embalmed.
