Thank you Gary and the Davids, for a badly needed chuckle. Nothing like a theological debate when none of the parties actually understand the theology. For a bonus, Gary weighs in on nekkidness! You know a part of the world that doesn’t believe in nekkidness? The places that follow Islam and Hinduism. 

After reading @Joyster’s post, I couldn’t resist a peek at David J’s Facebook page. He posted the following re Gary: “He has a screw loose. avoid him.”

@postscript, I didn't see the screw loose comment on David J's page.  I had a hard time getting past his over the top gun stance and obvious support of violence towards anyone who wasn't heterosexual; I admit, I wasn't reading too carefully.  However, I had to go back and read the Gary has a screw loose post.  David J. had a private message conversation with Gary; David J. put screenshots of the conversation in the comments.  I'm putting some of them in the spoiler if anyone's interested. Reading them reminds me of listening to kindergartners argue.

Yes, nothing says "mature, intelligent man of God" than Gary throwing a tantrum and engaging in the social media equivalent of taking his toys and going home. I wonder what made him start posting on Facebook again. He hasn't done many of these "OK folks" posts in a while, and now here he is favoring us with multiple posts in the past few days. 

@Joyster, I'm not a fan of memes, particularly when they're as hate-filled as this guy's, so I tend to scroll past them. It didn't occur to me to look in the comments, perhaps because his page made me feel like I'd ventured over to the dark web and I didn't want to spend any more time there than I had to. Gary must have extra time on his hands if he's able to engage in lengthy Facebook battles with other wingnuts.

On the subject of nekidness,  in my summer school classroom,  each day I am reading aloud a book from a state nominee for an award list. I have a poster with pictures of the nominees on it, and each day students ask if the library called me about the hold for the book in the spoiler.  They can't wait to read it and give it a rating. Gary would not approve.

Seems like Gary is still just Garying.

Bit of context for those not from the NC/SC area - gas prices in South Carolina are generally about 10 cents cheaper than in North Carolina due to tax differences. So any time anyone from North Carolina goes to South Carolina it's likely they'll top off their tank even if it isn't low. That probably explains a little about all his going on about gas prices. 

I live close to the border and have on two occasions had jobs close enough to SC to always gas up the car there. 

Incidentally SC is also a better place to buy a lottery ticket as if you win you can stay anonymous. 

And I would love, love, love somebody to ask Gary about the books of the Bible that were in his precious 1611 King James Version that were removed randomly in the late 1800s. Does he even know about them? Were they not inerrant? Were they not the word of God? Who decided that? How is his "KJB" considered "complete" if it's missing several books that were there originally?

Hello, all!

I fell out of the habit of listening to Gary, or even checking his threads. Reasons in spoiler, just because they are probably pretty boring to most:

My Mom was going through some health issues that required my being more hands-on and going to lots of doctor appointments with her. She's doing better now, but many more appointments are in our future. And, we were having major repairs done to our house, with all of the discomfort, upheaval and expense that entails.

So, I was mostly posting a quick drive-by now and then, on the Rod thread or in Politics.

Also, I don't know if it was the need to listen to something less aggravating, or just coincidence due to checking out one video then wanting to continue, but, instead of Gary, I found myself listening to various ex-religious YouTubers - mostly Genetically Modified Skeptic, Paulogia, and Viced Rhino.

They do a good job of responding to young earth creationists, especially those who have taken to trying to sound educated and scientific. Styles vary a bit, but most were gentle and intelligent, sometimes with snark or righteous indignation for good measure.

One evening of no Gary led to another, and, the next thing I knew, it was more than a month later! But, for the moment, I have caught up on All The Things, so here I am.

Thank you all for keeping up with Bro Gary and his antics, and posting recaps, news, and, especially CC hilarity (Jesus' butt, indeed). I was so glad to have the end of the old thread, and this new one, to read. Thanks for keeping me caught up on Becky's health, Caleb's wedding, and the resurrection of the One True Truck (praise its name).

I must say this, though, about Gary's sermons, Facebook arguments and posts; other than mentioning Mormons, the fact that the truck was damaged because it rolled down a hill without him in it (he'd hinted, but never quite said all of that, I think), and maybe the idea that Lucifer fell from Heaven due to playing the wrong music, there was not one new thing in any of it.

Yes, Gary is that predictable and repetitive - he's said all of those things before, most of them over and over and over . . .

I saw a few posts with incredulity about Gary being involved in starting a college - he and some other dolts have been bloviating about this for a while - over a year, I think. Remember when they looked at the property in upstate New York? That was part of this idea. They want to turn out young preachers who fit the mold they want (which, I suspect is: willing and able to do all of the boring shit and hard work they don't want to do, and preach sin and hellfire when they are allowed to talk).

I doubt anything will come of it.

Ike's comment has even more capitalization errors.  Also, Gary lets us know he'll be preaching all day tomorrow at Cornerstone Baptist in Florence, KY.  I checked the church's Facebook page; sadly, they have a nice lectern already so Gary won't get to christen his.

As far as I have ever been able to tell, it is entirely family members. So, Daddy Danny gave Gary gas money.

Sunday, second service at a church in Kentucky on 6/19/22: Gary said he would be at Cornerstone Baptist in Florence, KY, but the sanctuary doesn't match that church's Facebook page sanctuary pictures.  However, whatever church Gary is at also has a nice pulpit, so Gary wasn't able to use his..  Gary talked about wearing the armor of God and fighting for your religious rights because, you know, everyone’s trying to take his rights away. Same old stuff.  I mostly just summarized the fun CC parts.  I'm not going to summarize or watch the other video from yesterday.

We’re living in dark, dangerous, and evil times. The Bible talks about living in perilous times. There must have been a fruit supply chain issue in Bible times also, because CC has Gary talking about:

Gary's had trouble with the truck but the Lord sent a mechanic and things are okay again.  Whoever spent that year or so fixing up the truck must not have paid much attention to the engine if the water pump broke already.  There must have been something wrong with the trailer too because Gary mentions in the comments that it was fixed too.

Gary, I think God is sending you a message to get your ass off the road and get a regular job.  Preach if you must but quit dragging Becky and Jacob around the country.  How many more signs do you need?

I couldn’t help laughing when I saw Gary’s post about his recent truck woes. The man is incapable of operating a vehicle without it breaking down. And of course it’s the Lord who fixes it, not Jacob or a mechanic (Gary must be on first-name basis with half the mechanics in the country by this point). 

Having grandchildren for the Lord is a terrible reason for reproducing, Gary. 

Becky just had surgery and is probably still recovering. Of course she’s having trouble readjusting to the road.

I assume they were wondering where all the water went? 

Gary, I'm not a mechanic. My dad is, but I'm not. But I'm thinking that the water all went either on the ground or up in steam. 

It is pretty amazing how God only gives these people signs that confirm what they believe and what they want. It's very convenient, really. Mechanic is able to fix the truck? Sign of approval from God. Truck repeatedly breaks down? Must be an attack by satan!
