Carlin & Evan 11: Scary Health Situation

They do seem to be fastidiously following doctors’ orders, and a doctor did clear her to travel for Lawson’s wedding, so that’s on the doctor. However, it sounds like her episodes prior to the trip may have appeared like more standard fainting versus the more complex issues they’re describing now, so I can see why they might have been cleared.

Unfortunately, it’s normal for it to take many months to get in to see a specialist, and that’s in times when the healthcare system isn’t as taxed as it is now, so realistically they may have to wait that long. However, I hope they are able to further rule out non-neurological issues in the meantime.

Is it possible that having some unexpelled placenta could cause issues like this? My worry is something like that leading to undiagnosed sepsis.

Geez, that sounds so scary. I wonder if she is seizing and then is post-ictal afterwards, as people can be quite confused etc after a seizure. As a healthcare worker, I wonder if she would benefit from being admitted to hospital to expedite investigations and being able to see specialists (here in Canada at least, it can take months to see specialists too, but in hospital they are on call 24/7, so there is always one who’s available to see patients in the emergency department and as an inpatient).

Re: retained placenta, that usually causes bleeding, discharge, fever, flu symptoms - I would assume that they hopefully ruled that out already and drew blood cultures with how many times she’s been in. I hope they can get an answer soon.

The way that she's describing her symptoms at the end of the latest vlog sounds like a seizure. I hope they get to the bottom of this because it must be very scary for them

Evan's story today shows her in the hospital in a neck brace with oxygen. She's hospitalized again, I guess she had a very serious episode.  We know she's had covid (maybe more than once) and I would place money is not vaccinated.  She also had meningitis right after she had Layla.  Who knows what has happened to the poor woman's brain at this point.

I feel terrible for her.

The neck brace concerns me. I hope they can get to the bottom of this and find the right treatment for her. I don't have to like her or him or their religion or politics to be honestly concerned. Those babies need their mama.

Speaking of insurance: If he's a journeyman electrician, he's probably apprenticed through IBEW. IF so, they have incredible insurance and benefits (and pay). Not sure what pay scale the local there has but he's probably not sweating the bills at all.

Given that Carlin also gave birth this year, they probably already hit their out of pocket max for insurance after the first ambulance, so the financial impact if repeated hospital trips might not be as bad as it would be otherwise.

I would be happy to know that they weren't going to be drowning in medical expenses while they are going through this scary health trauma.  I don't keep up enough to have known she had meningitis.

I really feel for them. 😔 I’m glad she’s been admitted so that she’s somewhere safe, and hopefully this will help them get some answers faster. I’m really surprised KJ still isn’t there.

even though I don't think he's wearing masks, they might have maximum visitor limit because of covid, so maybe Evan is only allowed by carlins side.

Not necessarily. A lot of insurance plans still have an amount owed even after the deductible is met.

The out of pocket max is different from the deductible. Out of pocket max is the maximum amount you have to pay in a year after meeting the deductible.

Yes. I only meant it as: yes, even though they've most likely met their deductible they still may owe more. Because 'Murica! 🤦‍♀️ Hopefully they actually have real insurance, too, and not Scamaritan or the like. If that were the case they'd most likely be out even more than the what, $13,000 cap?

(I couldn't think of "out of pocket maximum" lol)

Carlin was admitted last night, so hopefully they can run a battery of tests and get to the bottom of this.

And I hope Kelly shows up for more than a photo op. 🙄

Agree that it's a good thing she's at the hospital now. Must be hard with her still nursing Zade, though - she'll either have to pump or wean him quickly, or have the baby with her all the time, and none of that is fun.

I really feel sorry for them. Fundie or not, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

I'm glad Evan deleted the photo of Carlin in a neck brace (I dont know the medical terms and hope you guys understand what I'm referring to) he posted yesterday. While I get that he wanted to ask for prayers, she deserves dignity and privacy at this time.

He updated last night on his story that they are doing a barrage of tests.  (My word, not his) and they're hoping to just eliminate as they go until they get to an answer. He asked for prayers.

I'm pretty sure it was posted as a story, which automatically disappears after 24 hours, so he might not have deleted it, it might have just expired.

There’s no way the hospital would even consider allowing the baby to stay with her. It would be a liability for the hospital. Hopefully they’ll allow him as a visitor though for more than just a few minutes at a time.

Is this an American thing? I was admitted briefly when my son was two months old and he was allowed to stay with me and I know other people in the same situation, that the could bring the baby with them. But I mean, my husband was also allowed to stay with me (on a chair bed).
