Anyone else unprepared for this to take all damn day?

I thought we would know by now :(

Amy has more right to speak about the situation than any of us on this board, so...

Good point, she does.

No but I think this judge is being very thorough and methodical. He wants the judgment to stick.

She made herself more visible than the victims. That bothers me greatly.

Michelle had 19 kids with the guy, she likes him at least a little.

That, and it may be a fundie helpmeet attitude requirement.

Hopefully he's getting a really long time.

As do I. Maybe I shouldn’t be postponing things on my list to wait for a verdict. Maybe this is over involvement on my part…?

and I hope that the length of the hearing today is reflective of a lengthy sentence being handed down.

Better that then screw it up and he gets to go free on a technicality.

Complete over involvement on my part.

Do you hear any hint of apology?

I think not.

Maybe she is speaking out for those who are afraid to.

Thank you.

Maybe. Even if she is I’m still uncomfortable about it. Not judging her motive. Just what I can see.

And I suppose really all of this is uncomfortable. As it should be.

Thank you.

The sentencing is like a Rorschach test and each of us see something different in it.

None of us see anything good.

Instead it's pain, manipulation, victimization, abuse.

I don't think it's wrong in a world gone mad to hope and wait for justice.

I don’t think it is just fundies.  It’s kind of “tacky-uneducated-South.”  Lots of overlap though.

I saw that look in some of the photos of young guys at dances/prom in my incredibly non-southern, terminally hipster, crunchy,  over-educated, tech area — so I think it might just be a general trend for young guys in dresses up mode.

We have no idea what kind of permission she has, though. For all we know, the victims asked her to speak up because they wanted words said but didn't want to face any more of the spotlight. We genuinely have zero idea and since she is a family member, I'm going to be happy that she spoke against the Duggars.

I’ve got no beef with Amy speaking publicly, especially since the victims don’t seem to want to speak.

That’s fair. IMO, everything she said was accurate.

He is also not the criminal.  Why are we picking on him?  He has every right to chose the fashion direction he wishes to go, and in my opinion I have seen a lot worse and less professional outfits than his.  Criticizing his fashion choices seems a bit BEC in my opinion.

I think it is more important that he is there to support Joy.  Sure, their clothes are often tacky, but some of the Duggars seem to have decent feelings towards each other.

That description made me smile on a very somber day. Thank you.

Silence would be seen as being complicit, most likely.

Really the more people who are real to them who speak out, the better, IMO. Us "worldly" people don't mean anything to them, but they know Amy, she's family, she knows them. She matters a bit more, especially to the Duggar kids.

Dang this is taking a long time! I hope this means that the judge is crafting the sentence to make sure that the charges stick on appeal!
