I wonder if Steve sees them as their drug dealers. I’ve always been kind of surprised Steve didn’t ban caffeinated drinks like coffee and tea. We know he banned Pepsi but that has less caffeine than coffee.

I feel like the ban on Pepsi kind of gets a worse reputation around here than it really is. Teri really was drinking an excessive amount of pepsi. She had special cup holders built into a shelving unit because she needed one on hand all day. I think she was definitely addicted and definitely drinking an unhealthy amount. I don't think she was just having an occasional pepsi and it was banned because she was simply enjoying it too much.

Now, if Steve was the one who demanded this change- that is completely unfair. However, I don't think we know that it was a demand from him? Maybe we do but I am not sure.

OMG found it!  I don't know what qualifies a thing as an addiction but OMG that she had to ask Steve to have an extra pepsi when it was still only a cleaning day treat!  https://articles.titus2.com/nothing-between/

I’ve always had a hard time believing fundies who claim addictions to things like porn or pop. I believe you can be addicted to those things. But I feel like some fundies exaggerate or don’t understand addiction. I’ve kicked my “pop addiction.” Funnily enough, it was not long after Teri did. So I get it. I get wanting to stop drinking so much of it. But the moralizing Steve and Teri do around kicking the habit KILLS me. Steve and Teri moralize EVERYTHING. Including food. And I think moralizing eating and drinking will always cause problems eventually. Just like moralizing the hell out of sex will eventually cause problems. Eating, drinking, and sex are all innate functions and urges we need to survive. Moralizing them the way fundies do causes harm.

Damn. I wonder if she was forced to go cold turkey.  Wouldn't want to have been around for that detox!

I absolutely do think that people can have an addictive type of relationship to the caffeine and sugar in sodas, ditto people who simply can't get by without sugar free sodas.  Or would it be more of a habit?  It's certainly not the same as alcohol or drug addiction.  Maybe they are different areas of the same continuum?

Pepsi has way less caffeine than a cup of coffee. I believe she said she had a headache after she went cold turkey. But I imagine it would have been much worse if it was multiple coffees she was drinking a day and not Pepsi.

I had missed this photo on Facebook earlier-- a Leavenworth couple who run a coffee place, Burr Roasters, and go to the Church of the Open Door. They went to the Virginia coast for vacation in October and stopped by to visit Anna and Mary at ABC on the way back.

Mary looks stunning in this photo!

So does Teri now eschew all caffeinated beverages? Or just Pepsi? Michael Pollan's description of quitting caffeine cold turkey in This is Your Mind on Plants* is far more insightful and entertaining than Teri's article.

*Pollan's book discusses three plant-based psychoactive drugs--opium, caffeine, and mescaline. From the first section I learned that, now that I've read how to extract the psychoactive ingredient from the seed pods on my "breadseed poppies", it is illegal for me to grow them. In other words, in the US it's legal to grow the plants only if you are not in possession of instructions for turning the sap into joy juice.

That's what I thought about Sarah in that photo of her after the concert. Amazing what no longer leading a life of quiet desperation can do for a person, isn't it?

I'm pretty sure Teri still drinks coffee.

I'm guessing that Steve doesn't ban coffee because a) he looks AND b) he associates it with staying awake to work and being somewhat healthy (it is, but in certain circumstances).

I think Teri overexaggerates her addiction and I think Steve didn't personally like Pepsi enough and didn't see it's nutritional value or it's value to working.

BTW, Sarah being 40 is kind of nuts to me. I'm only 2 years younger than her, and I've been following the blog since we were both in our mid-20s.

Honestly, I recall Steve's post a while back about how he "once" really resented Terri, and I think denying her Pepsi was his dick way of hurting her.  He just wrapped it into some BS about it being worship of an idol or what not, and a drain on the family's expenses.

Thankfully I think they’ve modified it since then. Maybe that shows they are finally capable of modifications. Like allowing their adult daughters to go to college out of state and live in her own apartment.

I am no Steve Maxwell apologist, but I can think of many reasons for serious resentment of Teri so if it's true and it was just once then clearly he's a robot and needs to have the part of his OS which runs his emotional response debugged.

One of my female junior JB’s just turned 40. I won’t list all the things she’s done & been able to achieve that Sarah hasn’t.

I will say that I’ve briefly imagined the last 22 years if she had not moved away  to college at age 18.

What would life have been, had she followed Sarah’s path and stayed home with me & the rest of her family of origin?

I tell you: it would NOT be the plot of a Moody book!

Unless maybe the book was “Matricide With The Moodys!”

I hear ya!  Mine is 27, launched with a career and living with her finance, but I promise you if she were living Sarah's life I'd be wishing I'd taught her to keep sweet rather than expressing her feelings.

Who would have thought that a bible college facebook page would enable us to see just how Anna and Mary are spreading their wings. This is from an ABC Warriors basketball game.Mary and her friend in one row, Anna the row behind

Just imagine all the FUN and non god related things they are doing. Steve always had to tie everything to god. You couldn’t just go and enjoy yourself. Going to basketball games and volleyball games. Running in a school wide race. Not just your own boring family turkey trot. Going to a Christmas formal. So many fun things. I wonder if they will be devastated when they graduate.

And ya know, I wouldn't be surprised if they have a prayer before games, so it IS still tied to god, but that still wouldn't be enough for Steve. It would be so difficult for him to even imagine sports and fun are able intermingle with god.

Since Sarah is allowed to live on her own, I hope the same would apply, upon their graduations,  to the younger women as well. I don’t see any reason why the women would need to return to Steve’s home or control. At the very least, they could live together and conduct their own private lives.

I've probably mentioned this before but I over the years I've gotten to know, through their wives and children, many Boeing Aerospace/Aeronautical engineers and they are, to a man, controlling assholes of varying degrees. Not saying they all are, but I haven't met one yet that I'd want to spend time with.

I know one. He has changed careers completely. My husband and I know there had to have been a trigger for him to cash it all in and pull a 180? 360?, but neither of us is in the position to ask. We did not know him when he was still in the industry.

ETA- Maybe the trigger was all the other controlling a-holes in the industry😂

Seeing all the activities these girls are involved in and the socializing that they are doing with their peers, I wonder if either gal is resentful or feels robbed of all the time that Steve stole from them?

Mary wasn’t robbed of that much time compared to Sarah and Anna. If I was Sarah especially, I would feel extremely robbed. Mary isn’t that much older than the seniors at the college. I wouldn’t be surprised if she felt more like she fit in compared to Anna.

So I realized I must be really genuinely happy for these two because my first thought was happiness and not cringe. You see usually I would completely cringe at all those people without masks on. However, I didn't even think of that at first because I was so glad to see them get to experience this.

Where were you this fall when I tried dating one? 😆

But yeah, I have another data point to support your theory. Never been told before what kind of earrings to wear, on a third date no less.
