(CW: CSA) Josh & Anna 44 - Fate in the hands of the jury

There are many things that I hate about the US justice system. As an example, how many times the jury in the Arbery trial was escorted out of the room during the trial. I think juries should know every thing pertinent to the case. Also, how could the calendar and days of the week on that calendar, taint the jury? Talk about not using common sense.

I haven't been this scared and worried since Nov 8 2016 and Nov 3 2020.

And rightfully so, as it turned out.

Wouldn’t they have the calendars on their cell phones?

Yes, they would, but my interpretation of what @Buzzard just said they would not be able to consult them.  Might not their phones be confiscated prior to deliberating at any rate?

If someone on the jury really struggles with technology/computers it could take a significant amount of time for other jurors to go through the evidence and testimonies and explain it in a way that is accessible.

Idk the solution to this, but people shouldn't be put in the position of deciding things they can't understand in the simplified language of the lawyers.

We don't know about this jury yet.  They could all want more time, maybe most are there but couple of hold outs.  Maybe because of the tech, also could be because some Q Anon supporter thinking Duggar is being persecuted and this "happens in all families."

And it's a cross section of the public so maybe some are PITAs who like the attention, or want to milk it to get another day off work (all the companies I've worked for pay you for jury duty), or want to get more details to try and sell interviews.

Humanity sucks.  It's certainly likely they just need more time to be thorough, but if that's the case I do question their ability to understand the tech stuff.  Because frankly forget that it's Josh, if this was some case I'd never heard of and showed me the details I cannot for the life of me coming to any other conclusion than the person sitting in front of that computer is responsible for the downloads.  None.

Honestly, that they couldn't do this in 4.75 hours today is concerning to me.  I hope I'm wrong.

They wouldn't be able to have their phones in there, nothing but their notebooks and whatever evidence they request from the court.

Maybe they just wanted to schedule their free lunches for a few days while they “deliberate”.  🤣

Could be actually.  I would so go Julia Sugarbaker on their asses:

I got paid when on jury duty - 1/4 of my daily wage. It was at least something. Many smaller companies don't pay anything. Hardly a reason to drag out deliberation.

When I have done jury duty they had a place for us to lock up our personal items.  Cell phones are not allowed in the jury room during deliberations.  Part of the reason would be distraction from the job at hand.

😱When you said twenty years, I realized I first discovered them thirteen years or so ago. How have these people lived in my head so long? Only half joking because we definitely talked about Duggars in therapy this week and will be for some time. Poor therapists. I wonder how many of them are being initiated into Duggarland this month.

I literally talked to my therapist yesterday about the Duggars and the trial and how it’s bringing up memories of my own molestations. Lmao and also maybe last week too.

The defense seems to have a high opinion of the Duggar fame 😂 This just makes me laugh.

"In closing arguments Wednesday, defense attorney Justin Gelfand told jurors that federal agents “were so star-struck about the possibility of prosecuting Josh Duggar" that they ignored other evidence."

I highly doubt that any fed employees are starstruck by a reality TV star to the point they would risk their careers.

Communication with outside people, google, social media… a possible nightmare for a judge.

Plus, this isn't the sort of crime that lends itself to falling victim to star humping.  It's csam ffs.  Idk who it is.  Josh hasn’t even been shown on the TV shows in years.  Ridiculous.

@anon710 I swear to Rufus I just finished a bottle of that same wine!  Full disclosure,  I know nothing about wine, but I love the 19 Crimes labels. 😕

I never liked "Pest" for his name, either, and am still going to try out my afore suggested "J'pedo," with apologies to Pinocchio.

We always paid full salary and I'm not saying it's the case here, but I absolutely work with people who would milk to stay on jury duty as long as possible.

I didn't get it because I was not looking for a red. I heard each bottle has a story. I'm going to check more out next time I'm there.

I heard each bottle has a story to it and some are pretty creepy. I'm going to check them out a little more next time I'm on the hunt for wine.

That’s actually not a bad bottle of wine. I’m not saying I have a couple in stock, but I’m not not saying that either.

I agree!  There was a lot of information provided in the trial so it takes time to go through the info and come to a unanimous decision.  When you sit on a jury you feel the pressure to make sure you get it right so you want to review all the evidence.

For a comparison sample of one, the jury I was on took a little over 90 minutes to discuss and reach a verdict.  Josh's trial was much more serious and probably a lot more to review and discuss.

It is not a matter of tainting. A calendar is not evidence and rules is rules. There are things they could create out of thin air with a calendar- inaccurate timelines, confusion about dates and correlation that creates an inaccurate picture, etc. A calendar can create an appeal of a conviction.

Also, the jury is escorted out for a lot of legit reasons. Example- a judge can rule on things that might not be relevant but a lawyer is trying to sneak in. If the jury was sent out because the victim had a drug bust 20 years ago that had no bearing on his character or the trial, the jury should not hear that. But it does not stop the lawyer from trying to sneak it in.

Hopefully by tomorrow we can temporarily change the name of our honourable hangout place from FreeJinger to JailJosh. I’ll raise a glass of 19 Crimes and Counting for that.
