For people wondering whether Joe Lara knew he had a medical condition which would prevent him from getting his medical certificate renewed, it appears he did know. A news channel investigation found out that he admitted in court, during the custody battle, that he uses marijuana for insomnia. Not judging him for it. Goddess knows some prescription drugs for insomnia have some awful side effects. However, pilots can't get certified, if they have an ongoing medical condition that involves sleep deprivation, even if they're taking medication for it. I didn't word the explanation well, but here's the link: https://youtu.be/Xm738XhNzOU

Your first post about this, above, boils down to "Joe couldn't get his medical certificate renewed" which leads one to assume he wasn't qualified to fly the plane.

I'm not actually believing the news report, over an actual government document. The document that she posted looked like the same one the News organization obtained from the church, which is why I responded the way I did. I have since also looked up his medical certificate on the government website, which does state November 2019. Therefore, I acknowledge that that portion of the news report was incorrect.

I'm glad you understand that part of the news report was incorrect, and it's important to point out that he WAS medically certified and did have the qualifications to fly that plane.

It's easy for something to get mentioned once or twice (here, by a news report, by a YouTuber...) and suddenly become considered "truth".

So just clearing things up: Joe Lara WAS medically certified at the time of the crash, and was type rated for the plane he was flying.

There is an FAA drug testing program called HMS for pilots who have substance related offences, such as DUI.  I believe this is what they mean by "separate FAA drug testing program".  HMS is extremely thorough.

There's also a system that companies who employ pilots have to use for random testing. I don't know what it's called offhand, but basically, the company is given a list of these people WILL go immediately to be tested and it has to be done. My memory is fuzzy on how long they have or exactly how the program is administered, but I think it's the same basic system that they use in the DOT for truckers and similar.

I need to go check registrations.... ugh..... I keep thinking we are going to get hit but we aren't. We are far down the google machine with the Shamblin Shambles thanks to the crash and now the doc but it will happen.

I had been taking a several month sabbatical from FreeJinger.  2021 has been a brutal year and I just didn't want to be online as much.  The documentary is the catalyst that brought me back.

I was only quoting the actual government regulations, and stating that I don't see where insomnia, or any other chronic sleep disorder is no longer considered as a reason to deny certification.

A lot of times, stuff that is a disqualifier is more of a 'no, but ... '. There's a system called special issuance where people can jump through a bunch of hoops to prove that their condition is not a safety concern. There are some definite no conditions, but overall, for most things they can follow the process if the condition is controlled to the point of safety. The idea over the years has very much become don't take someone's career away from them if they are in fact safe to fly. They want people to seek help for medical conditions they would otherwise hide so as not to lose their jobs.

Thanks, Mom. 🙄 I'm glad you understand that I've got no problem admitting I'm wrong. However, since I didn't know until about 30 minutes ago that a layperson can look up a federal aviation medical certificate, my confusion was understandable. Additionally, the federal regulations about chronic medical conditions still hold true. I look forward to many more FJ Pile-Ons in the future. It's always such a pleasure, instead of just having a reasonable conversation. 😁

If we hadn't already discussed all this months ago it might have gone a little different.

I apologize if my posts felt like a pile-on, but this horse has been dead a long time.

I know this is something of thread drift - but I wondered if anyone has else who has watched the documentary on RF felt like it was almost incomplete?

I wondered if the plane crash truncated what the film makers had planned.

If it helps, it IS incomplete. There are two? I think? More episodes coming in the New Year.

There are two more parts coming I think. They probably did save a bit for those so they won't be just about the plane crash alone.

Then where did you think I got the screenshot of the pilot record? It had today's date on it. The rules about posting private information apply to me as well, and I would never do it.

I thought this WAS a reasonable conversation. You were being provided with correct, factual information when you were posting false information. As @Alisamer pointed out, it's important to correct wrong information so it does not get turned into "fact" along the way.

I don’t think I realized until I watched the documentary that Gwen told children they would go to hell if they didn’t obey the first time.

You obviously are more familiar with this than I am: isn’t that the same teaching that Gothard espoused? I seem to remember it being a thing with the Duggars to play some sort of obedience game.

Right? That seems to be some sort of universal fundie bullshit. I was most decidedly not Remnant and definitely was not Gothardite either and it was still a thing. It’s an awful and harmful teaching! Did you guys end up with the Left Behind bullshit as well? I still have nightmares from that stuff and I’m probably old enough to be your mom lol.

That and you were not pure if you … explored shall we say. I remember feeling like i had to confess so many times about being unclean because of of that, but never had the guts to do so.

Sadly yes. I see them in my nightmares with some regularity. Did you do the 60s or the 90s versions? I’m old so I watched the 60s versions. The balloon after they guillotine the kid though.

I got to the section on the lower hall and seriously thought I was on the wrong thread for a moment - Rachel Purdy reminds me of a watered down version of Jill Rodrigues!

Left behind was pre-remnant for me. There was also Bible Man. And so many nightmares of burning in Hell.

He taught first time, unquestioning obedience to all authority, but I don’t remember him saying you will go to hell. Just that you will be outside the hedge of protection and awful things would happen to you.

I was so scared of being left behind and then not having the courage to hold out and getting the mark and being in hell forever. It still scares me on some level and I don’t even believe in hell.

Thanks for sharing this. It is “amazing” as they told us many times. From someone who fell for the lies before here are some comments.
1. First I found it interesting that none of the longtime leaders were featured in the video. Particularly Elizabeth and Michael.
2. It was all about the fun and activities to keep everyone busy all the time so they cannot even think about what is being done to their lives with nothing about (what should be) a church’s role in transforming lives.
3. It seems very stilted as some people seemed to have problems with reading their cue cards.
4. Just another fine example of trying to look good on the surface while ignoring the issues covered in the documentary.

May nobody fall for this.

My parents were so big into “protecting” their kids from the scary world but filled our tiny minds with hell, torture and damnation. I was always anxious that I was going to hell.

Also I was fairly sure I wouldn’t dare to be a Daniel and I would totally renounce Christ to avoid torture when the liberals banned Christianity. We may have all been in different religious groups but they all borrowed from the same playbook on how to emotionally damage children.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
