Quote

Ed Asner, who rose to fame as the crusty but lovable newsman Lou Grant on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," died Sunday morning, his publicist confirmed to CNN. He was 91.

Asner was was surrounded by family in Los Angeles, publicist Charles Sherman said.

The news was also shared in a post on Asner's official Twitter account.

"We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully," the post read.

He also voiced the grumpy old Jedi Vrook Lamar in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games.

What a great actor and activist. I will always remember him as Lou Grant and Carl Fredricksen. RIP

“You’ve got spunk.”..

”I hate spunk.”

He was cast as a curmudgeon but in reality he was a champion for the rights of his fellow marginalized actors- women, racially challenged, and anyone who was facing difficulties. By all accounts he was wonderful to his fellow actors and treated every fan as a true friend. He is truly among the real stars.
