Josie & Kelton 7: So Boring that No One Discussed Her Baby Shower

I live far enough south that our swings aren't drastic like up north, but I also prefer DST. I hate getting home from work and it's already dark out. Our nicest weather is from November - April, but we don't get to enjoy as much it because it's too dark to go for a run or a walk after work. And I'm not a morning person, so getting up 90 minutes earlier to workout/shower/dry my hair before work isn't going to happen.

I detest the time change.

There are more accidents and more heart attacks presumably because of the sleep changes people have to deal and for what? Either I'm getting up to start work when it's dark or I'm finishing work when it is dark.  It may have had a place when the population was centered around rural and poorly lit areas but now most people (at least in my country) live in cities where there is so much ambient light that you can barely see the stars most nights.

If it was up to me, I'd cancel the next scheduled time change and leave things as they are permanently.

There was a vote in the EU to get rid of the time changes. Each country has to decide whether it wants to stay on their summer or winter time. I think yhe final time change got pushed back a few times with covid and Ireland has a bit of a bother because it has a land border with the UK which is definitely continuing with the time changes.

Instead of time changes, I think it would just make more sense to start work/school later in the winter (getting up with daylight is definitely better for health than getting up in the dark) and earlier in the summer, the further from the equator you are the bigger the difference would be, but it all balances out and would feel much more natural.

And it can't be that complicated to organise changing hours; plenty of attractions have longer opening hours in the summer and our local park gates close 'at dusk' which has been changing by at least 15 minutes a week over the last few weeks, the times are just posted on the gates (i commute through the park, so important for me to know).

I love the change from summer to winter and back. I don’t have a big problem adjusting (I mean it’s 60min- you would think people having a problem adjusting to one hour for weeks never leave their time zone for holidays, how do they cope with two bigger changes in one or two weeks?) and rather change the clock (most do that automatically anyway) than remember when stuff is opening later or when I m expected somewhere an hour later than usual.
I think it’s probably harder in countries like Canada, USA, Russia and China where the nation and even states are in different zones. But if your whole country is on the same clock the one hour isn’t that bad. It’s Sunday’s so you can even start Friday night (if you don’t wohl weekends) preparing.

I think the EU plans have stopped in that regard. Iirc they wanted to let the individual nations decide and they quickly realised it would be pretty uneven. Some in constant winter, some on constant summer, some still changing and would complicate people crossing borders for work, intergovernment communications, some economic stuff I didn’t understand…..

It seems the decide between both camps is 50/50 with atm a tiny majority for changing. So I get why they don’t change a running system at this point. Maybe if the majority switches there will be another try. It will be one of those incidents where you will most definitely not come to a good compromise though.

When I was in college, the state I was in didn't have daylight savings, so at the beginning and end of the school year, we were the same as the time zone to the west of us, and the middle of the school year we were the same as the time zone to the east. It was awful, especially around the time all the other states changed times. Even little, inconsequential things were annoying, like your favorite TV show suddenly being on at a different time (this was before DVRs and streaming). Or you would go to call your parents and realize it was an hour later where they were, and they were in the middle of dinner or already asleep. I was so glad when the state decided to implement daylight savings after my freshman year.

One of the best things about Arizona is no time change. Changing for Daylight Savings time honestly doesn't make sense. Abolish Daylight Savings!

I really wish we could stay on summer time all year. I have Seasonal Affective Disorder and the time change in the fall always marks the onset of my seasonal depression. I'm not a morning person so to getting up at 6:30 for a month to get in the extra hour of daylight in the fall isn't going to happen. I hate losing an hour in the afternoon/evening; winter would be so much more bearable if it got dark at 5 instead of 4. Also the vast majority of people are awake to enjoy the light from 4-6pm, while lots are still sleeping during 6-8am. The day we turn back to summer time is the best day of the year, IMO. And getting to enjoy summer light until 10pm or later is the best feeling. Honestly if the place I lived decided to stay on winter time all year I would seriously consider moving.

ETA: If we are going to continue to have time changes though, I would really like it if we could at least standardize the days we do it on. Here in Germany we change to winter time a week before the US and it is so confusing trying to deal with the change in time difference for that week -- and then the same thing again in the spring.

I second this. I have lost the number of times that I have had to explain what time it is here in Arizona.  So many people dont realize that we don't change time. We are in mountain time part if the year and pacific time part of the year.

I actually liked Josie’s outfit and thought it was very fitting for this season. However, the dress is too big on her, it looks like a mini dress on the original model but Josie is drowning in hers. I feel like she sized it up so it could be loose and long because she wanted to be “modest”.

That is not the same dress. Josie’s has a collar and cuffs.

I think the poster knew that, but wanted to show what “normal” people would wear if they choose such a dress (short, no collar, no cuffs). Hers is like the version with the modesty panel.
I like the colour. There is nothing else nice about it though. It looks like a modest version of a 90s get wasted and laid clubbing outfit.  And the porn shoes definitely don’t help.

To me, the “normal” one looks like something you’d see in an old Frederick’s of Hollywood catalog, whereas the “modest” one looks like it came from an early 00s mall boutique end-of-season clearance rack and they didn’t have your exact size, but it was marked down to $12 so why not?

Not to sound too harsh.

The fabric on Josie's is unforgiving. I hate the shoes. I kind of like the color.

The kids outfits are cute. The baby's face is hilarious.

In a recent Instagram story she mentioned shopping online with them a lot lately for 2 reasons: 1) hard to shop in actual stores with two kids, and 2) since she's between sizes she doesn't want to spend a lot of money on clothing.

Don't know much about Shein, but isn't their clothing poor quality, fast fashion like Forever 21 was??

I may be a clothing snob, but yes, IMHO the quality is atrocious. My daughter persuaded me to order a dress or two for her and it's super cheap polyester stuff, sloppily put together, and definitely not made to last. Plus, returning stuff that doesn't fit is a total pain, so I've told her no more Shein. Absolutely can't recommend.

Those particular shoes are super trendy right now, regardless of whether or not she got them from Shein. They're something that zoomer celebrities like Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo are seen in a lot.

I think it' s an outfit to go to a disco or a night club, not to go to a religious wedding. Wearing it at daylight, carrying a baby, is a bit out of place IMO. But to each their own...

It's super cheap so I assume so. I made my first Shein order today. I want a black pleated skirt but am not confident I can pull it off at my age, so I bought a cheap one and if I hate it, it was only $13. Then I got a dress, a pair of PJs and a pair of yoga pants.

It's worse than Forever 21, but cheaper. It's popular for teens with spare income to do Shein hauls with dozens of items for a couple hundred dollars. Their clothing isn't built to last by any means, as fast fashion goes, but it's quick, cheap, and trendy. They often steal designs from expensive designers to replicate for mass consumption.

CBC Marketplace (a Canadian tv show that investigates stuff) did a story on "fast fashion" retailers like Shein and found the clothes were often badly made and far more worrisome - often had high levels of chemicals like lead. In today's IG story, Josie said last night was the first night in 5 months that she has slept through the night, and she got up at 11 AM. She also said that Hazel gets up between 5-6 AM. Newsflash, unless you are going to bed after 2 AM, (in which case go to bed earlier) getting up between 5-6 AM IS sleeping through the night. 11AM…I wonder if that is what Josie considers sleeping through the night? These folks live in a parallel universe-
