My grandpa was born in 1939 and he vividly recalls singing God Save the King for King George VI. He always said at the rate the Queen was going, he'd never live to see King Charles III but he did. He thinks the news coverage is a bit over-done, though, lol.

My mother was born during WW2. She told me she remembers seeing Princess Elizabeth and her babies in Life magazine and being fascinated by the children being real life prince and princess and Anne having blonde curls. She also remembers photos and news about George VI’s death and funeral and the Queen’s coronation.

I collect, among loads of other vintage crap, Life magazine from the 1930s through the 1950s. As a subspecialty I've made it a life's (no pun intended!😄) goal to collect all the ones with members of the royal family on the cover. I think I'm up to eight or nine issues now, and the other day while putting some fairly recent acquisitions away, I came across the June 15, 1953 issue with the cover of Elizabeth on the throne at her coronation. Loads of coronation photos inside as well. It will be interesting to go through it when Charles is crowned to see how much is the same and what, if any, changes are made.

I love that your grandpa remembers singing God Save the King for George VI and is following the current news coverage. He's right, it IS a bit much. But I find myself glued to it whenever it's on! 😏

Well, that's the type of royal fantasy porn that kept them in power. The children in British colonies--often lacking blonde curls--led a very different life.

Was she aware of what Britain was doing to Kenyan children at that time?

Right. I think the Queen should have held a press conference to tell the public she was going to go to parliament to order the politicians to stop the the atrocities they have put into action or She with her vast ruling powers and armies at her deposal would fight them…

This is not specific to one royal couple and could go into any thread (so I chose that of my pet royals):

What is the one thing royals have that triggers your envy the most? And I don‘t mean the general „lots of money“. If you know exactly what you would by first with so much money, that could be you answer.

Here‘s mine: the live-in nanny. Just hand her the baby and take a bubble bath for an hour. If I could have just one thing, that would be it.
