Out of everyone, I think Ben is the most suited for handling and enjoying a large family. I’m not sure about Jessa though-

I think (unfortunately) Joe and Kendra are the best suited to a large family. They both appear very easy going and relaxed no matter the chaos surrounding them.

Jessa seems over the whole baby idea in general. I hope she will stop after this pregnancy but it's unlikely.

I think Kendra likely parks herself at her parents’ abode and she, her mom and Lauren take care of all the kids together. As long as that is a viable option, it lightens her load, or at least provides the company for misery. But damn, the girl has to be exhausted!

And what are these folks’ plan? Do they fully understand the implications of no BC? Has Joe forgotten birth- almost aged 11, the years before TLC and the spacious TTH? Kendra’s parents only have 9 (almost kids), and have never had more than 7 in their home at one time. Kendra is 22 and already has THREE. Can the 2 of them do basic math? They do realize that at some point, probably real soon, the show is going to go away, right? How will they support their family? Will that reality end the new baby/year train?

I looked up the video I'd sort of remembered seeing and yeah, I guess they all got the questionnaire. But, Ben & Derick got it after they were already approved to "court". Jeremy got it before approval to "court" was given.

Never noticed it before, but the lawyer in Derek can be seen when he possibly jokes about where the financial section is on JB’s questionnaire... “It’s on the 45-page application. Page 27, section B, line 4.” Foreshadowing!

A few years ago I was helping with music for a women’s group at church... The woman who led it was SO ridiculously obsessed with John MacArthur and would refer to his sermons/commentary every other sentence. I found it cringey at the time, but in hindsight, I wince at the thought of her obsession with him cause he is so misogynistic and was the one who told Beth Moore to stay home. ?

It’s pretty astounding how evangelicals claim to refer to Scripture only, when they are letting so many teachers/pastors influence their entire belief system.

Back in the 80’s we went to a conservative evangelical church and most in the church loved John MacArthur. I read one of his books, don’t remember which one or even what I thought of it now. Then I had a friend, who was part of this church, tell me how hurt she was by something MacArthur said on his radio show. It was something about women’s hair and that only harlots wore their hair like that. It was something about curly, permed hair. My friend has beautiful red, naturally curly hair. She said something like, this is the hair God gave me, MacArthur doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Never paid attention to him again.

Poor Jinger. Their courtship story makes me so sad for her. I think her self esteem and sense of self were pretty much absent, so she had no idea if she actually liked Jeremy or not, but said yes anyway since he was showing interest in her. Now she's play acting at what she thinks happiness and marriage and adulthood looks like.

I also wonder if Jeremy resents the kids because they require Jinger’s time and attention?

Of course Jeremy is a little controlling, I think most fundie guys are. They're raised to believe they're "headships" and that gives them control over the family.

JB was looking for someone fundie; he was always going to pick someone controlling.

I didn't see Jinger as spunky by the time she was an adult. She was raised by her family that her opinions were wrong and she did not seem independent. Did they send her to Journey to the Heart or another indoctrination camp? I blame the Duggars if she lost some spark she had before.

She also didn't seem to have hobbies before she married.

As for wearing pants, she grew up with pants-wearing women. Amy, Deanna, and even Mary all wore pants at least some of the time. Most of the fundie women we follow here where pants some of the time (Jinger, Jill, Joy, Jessa, Carlin, Alyssa, Abbie (Duggar), Lauren Swanson Duggar, etc.).

All of the older girls went to Journey to the Heart. I don’t doubt how indoctrinating it is but it is also clearly not a punishment like sometimes is suggested here.

I think Jinger was always into photography? For many humpers this translated into her being a professional photographer- a bit like Jana was a concert pianist.
Photography does seem to be one of the few fundie approved careers for women and I dare say with a course to hone her skills she’d have made a decent living from doing photo shoots for likeminded people. Instead she has to shill whatever she can and take pictures of Jeremy eating burgers, Jeremy wearing bow ties, Jeremy reading leather bound books, Jeremy using a fountain pen or the standard ‘I’m drinking coffee, aren’t I relatable’ selfie.

I can't stop thinking about the idea that the women marrying into the family don't have to fill out the questionnaire or spend talking about theology with JB.  (Sorry I forget who posted that first.)  I mean, I get why not, but it is just so strange to my non-fundy mind. Do they even get a 20-page questionnaire? Or we just assume that after marriage, the Duggar husband will turn them around to the right way of thinking if they are off at all. It would be an interesting question for someone to ask Jinger.

@Satan'sFortress I expect JB is more interested in what the women’s fathers have to say about their upbringing and beliefs. I can’t imagine he would discuss theology with a woman.

This is why they’ll magically not have any more kids if the next one is a boy.

I can’t see any posts about this - am I blind? Am I rehashing a days old discussion?

It’s been a long week and I haven’t been able to keep up. I’m busted after a massive day at work so I’m sitting down with a well deserved glass of wine. Forgive me if I’m days behind.

I was wondering the exact same thing. I actually clicked on a People article and need extra wine now because it always makes me feel yuck giving them clicks.

I don’t have Instagram so I can’t see stories if it was posted there....

The more I read about her courtship, the sadder I feel. It reminds me of dating my first boyfriend who was an asshole but I was sad and lonely and liked the compliment of the attention. The difference being that I never married him because we were allowed to date for several years, and I'm now happily married to someone who's not an asshole.

He's just doing damage control to get on the other side of this thing so it doesn't hurt book sales.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the book is a way to raise funds for a house in California- they were only supposed to be in the free house for a year and they can’t still argue they’re quarantined there.

Right, and when they don't find a successful grifting scheme I'm pretty sure "the lord" will call them to a more affordable area/state soon after Jeremy's completion of the program of study. "We wanted to live in LA, we love it here, but the lord has other plans for this season of our lives."

I don't doubt that he would have made a public statement for this reason alone, but even without a book this shit is so horrific I can see anyone even if not into the public eye wanting to make a clear statement distancing themselves from that.

I feel like PR in the age of social media is a no-win situation. In the Duggar threads over the past few weeks, I've seen people complain that statements from the family weren't strong enough, were too late, didn't address the right angles, the right people didn't make a statement. Then one of them makes a pretty strong statement and the comments turn to saying that the statement is insincere and only for self-serving purposes. I'm certainly no fan of Jeremy but it seems like there is nothing any of them could say or do for people to feel they are handling this appropriately.

Personally, I don’t think it’s the responsibility of any of Josh’s siblings to make a statement. And, if IRC, the only people who have commented besides JB/M are the sisters who were violated. Have any of the adult brothers or Jana made a public comment? It’s not their  hill to die on, but, unfortunately, their pocketbooks are likely to be adversely affected.
