What about Esther's mother? Does she get a look- in on this?!

and what about Esther's multiple sisters?  It seems clear to me that UP must be paying for this wedding dress jaunt.

Carlin and Evan, who  didn’t know how to activate EMS when Layla wasn’t  breathing (or how to open her airway), and were happy when a dr prescribed antebeeoticsfor an illness…not so sure she’d be any more equipped to home school anyone.

I’m a certified teacher. I have undergrad degrees in history and education. Masters in education. Two different teaching certs, I’m in my last class for a third one. Roughly 15 years of teaching experience, including every grade from 3yr old PreK-8th, except for 2/3.

I would not have been able to effectively homeschool my daughter past ~6th grade. Because 7th is when they start getting into specialised sciences, foreign languages, etc, here. I could have *maybe* outsourced that for a year or two, but, by 9th, I would have been completely out except for maybe history and Lang arts.

And I’m a pretty smart, well-educated *teacher*. But if you want your kids to get full educational opportunities, you have to be willing to say, “I can’t do this” and find people who can.  There are absolutely a some people who have the knowledge and resources and time to probably put together an effective homeschool curriculum past 6th grade, but I would be gobsmacked if any of them didn’t hire tutors, have a (real) coop to teach various classes, etc. It’s stupidly prideful to think you are the only teacher your child will ever need.

It makes me so angry because some of these kids are going to want to learn about xyz and never have the opportunity, or they’ll never even be aware that xyz even exists. So many missed opportunities because of their parents’ egos.

I have two BAs (seperate, not a double major). I seriously considered becoming a teacher. I am well-read. Yet homeschooling three kids due to Covid nearly undid me. Even with teacher back up and resources. I am not equipped for it. There is just also so much to cover and my 3 kids are at vastly different levels. It was one of the worst experiences of my entire life.

So Esther is going wedding dress shopping today with Kelly, Katie, Carlin and two of her SILs. She also didn't seem enthused in Carlin's video.

What I found interesting was there Carlin was in the passenger seat while Esther drove and Kelly was in the very back with Katie. I can't imagine having my mom or MIL sit in the back, I would automatically offer the front.

Carlin was actually in the driver seat, and Esther was in the passenger seat (the video is mirrored). Maybe since Esther is the "guest of honor" for the day, she was given the front seat. I would never expect my mom or mother-in-law to get in the very back, but I also know people who just automatically offer to climb in the back all the time; maybe KJ is one of those people.

It also looks like they're in the town where Miss Renee's shop is, so it seems likely it was filmed for the show. I can't imagine driving 2.5 hours to buy a wedding dress unless there was a good reason.

I agree, I would always offer the"adult" the front seat but maybe Carlin wanted the prime videoing post or needs front seat for car sickness, I'm going with prime videoing...

Evan finished his fourth year of school/apprenticeship. Good for him for sticking with it.

Argument over whether it’s “rock paper scissors” or “paper scissors rock dyna-MITE!” That’s several minutes of my life I’ll never get back.

1. I still think that if large fundy families were smart they would either start a family construction company or a landscaping company. With multiple sons you could have an electrician a plumber a roofer and other general construction workers. I know that the plumber and electrician would need more specialized training but I would think there are enough other Fundy families that have these skills that you could legitimately apprentice in a recognized way. (And not the fundy nonsense of learning from someone who's unqualified themselves.)

2. And Carlin is completely wrong. It's rock paper scissors lizard Spock, not paper scissors Dynamite!

My experience was similar. I think we suffered because we had high expectations and wanted to offer our kids a good teaching level. Fundies, especially fundies with big families, have a different point of view. I'm.sure they get also stressed, but it is way easier if you are content with them memorising the Bible.

And fundies also rush through it (education) because they want their  kids spending the bulk of their time doing chores that most of us deem parental duties (raising infants and small kids). Also the educators (parents or sibs) didn’t take higher level classes either. I’m not sure why KG, Teri Maxwell, the Paines or Websters didn’t want their kids AS educated as themselves? Did anyone see M is for Mamas thoughts on college education? She is not paying for her kids to hear liberal garbage. I guess she is not willing to raise critical thinkers…if your children are bright and centered they will be able to hear all information and opinions and extract what they need and filter the rest. I guess she’s really not that sure, is she?

We've already seen that the IBLP way of homeschooling is pretty much:

1) Beat your very small children till they can sit still for a long time out of fear.

2) Make them sit still in front of a video. Call that school.

It's horrifying on so many levels but the one thing it's great at is creating more time for the mom to do other stuff. (And that's exactly why Taliban Dan and his ilk are so against any oversight for homeschoolers.) They'll be fine with the boutique.

Given all the pics and video Carlin took of Esther shopping for a wedding dress, anyone want to go over/under on how many times Carlin's going to photobomb Nathan and Esther during the actual wedding. If she's pregnant with number 2 at that point, I can see her pulling an Erin and announcing at the reception. We know she'll be resharing her wedding pics to compare and contrast with Katie's.

Oh my word. Just saw a picture on Instagram of Carlin’s baby wearing bell-bottoms. They look so long and in the way for a toddler. ?‍♀️

Hopefully Carlin will learn that her daughter is not a decorative item or a mannequin.

A baby is not supposed to be aesthetically pleasing. It's a baby.

Once again, Carlin’s baby clothing choices leave me scratching my head. Bell bottoms are seldom a good look anyway, and putting them on an active toddler is a recipe for disaster. if she must inflict these weird outfits on the world, she should wear them herself.

I hope Layla develops a strong sense of her clothing preferences early, and rejects Carlin’s choices. I can see them fighting over clothes as Layla grows.

I'm hoping for Layla to go thru a tomboy and/or goth phase.

I can get the bell bottom look for a picture in the old school studio setting, but I wouldn't put my daughters in them while they were still learning to walk and were unsteady on their feet.

The main problem with those pants is they're too long. I've seen bellbottoms for little kids that end around the ankles.

I guess Carlin was unable to find high heels in toddler sizes.

Apparently they are sending Izzy away for 6 weeks to get training... isn’t it much better to be present themselves for the training?
Getting training from someone that is not ‘the boss’ and also being away for so long does not sound like a good situation for a dog.
