Michaela & Brandon 6: She Is an LPN and He Is Boring.....

Did the Bates not celebrate M’s graduation from nursing school? At this point, since M isn’t actually working as a nurse, there wouldn’t be much to talk about regarding M’s educational achievements ( that’s already been done) or her career, as apparently, by M’s choice, that is currently nonexistent.
IMO, B and M are more private people. I doubt either one, particularly Brandon, would want KJ up in their business-

Kelly still congratulates Brandon (and Michaela) in every birthday though : https://www.instagram.com/p/CT2P4Odr49F/

Personally i suspect Michaela has not passed the exam to work as a nurse yet and maybe Kelly was waiting until that for the congrats. Isnt that public information, like she would have a license if she passed right?

I mean no shame if she didnt pass in her first try at all, i know it is dificult, but it would also explain her not being in a hurry to work as a nurse and the voluntering instead.

These people celebrate and go nuts for everything. Leaving out her graduation and accomplishment - with or without a job - is a rude oversight by this group.

I don't know that there was a traditional graduation ceremony. However, she did have a pic taken (standard) or the cap and pinning ceremony that is a big part of community/technical college nursing program graduations.

I am sensitive to it as someone who got another advanced degree (I seem to be collecting them) in 2020. We had no ceremony because of COVID. Other than my parents and kids - nobody in my family congratulated me. Even my cousin's kid who graduated kindergarten got a Zoom party with the family. I wasn't expecting even that but a passing congrats would have been nice. It was a rough time to do all that work only to get ignored plus almost losing my mother to cancer while I was at it. I was literally writing a thesis while on hold with the hospital to check her condition since I wasn't allowed to visit.

Carlin got a picnic party a week or two before her wedding. However, Carlin seems to plan her own parties which I can't see Michaela doing. It is possible that they did have a cake or something. Maybe it just wasn't filmed. But one would think at least one of these overly happy social media influencers would leak a photo or video of it. I think Gil and Kelly would want it to be as "proof" that their children don't all go to unaccredited schools to find a husband.

I think she had a great experience being homeschooled because she was academically inclined, loved books and learning on her own. She probably would have had a great experience in an actual school too. But the thing is not evey child is like that and we can see that homeschooling hasnt worked that great for some of her siblings like for example Alyssa or Carlin.

I know this is old, but man, a lot of people learned this last year! Some kids do great -even better- academically when learning independently. Others most adamantly do not. At all. And some really need the school socialization, while others do fine playing with just friends/siblings. It would be nice if there was a way to have more flexibility for all kids to make the most of their learning styles and needs.

Michaela said somewhere very recently that she wasn’t working as a nurse because she’s undergoing fertility treatment and has to be available for appointments. She also she still studies so she stays current.
ETA:  found it. Instagram in the comments of the post where she’s packaging blankets that’s she’s sold.

I'm not sure she's getting fertility treatments. She says she is seeing a specialist and they're running tests. Whether she's getting treatments is unclear. Duggar data raised this issue on her account.

We had already disscused this previously in this same thread. I am glad she is seeing a fertility specialist, but i also think it is kinda weird she is not working as a nurse at the same time if she is currently licensed to it. Thats why i wondered if she passed the exam, because i also remembered her mentioned studying for this exam and then nothing. Wouldnt she or someone in the fam had mentioned if if she had passed it? Maybe i am wrong and the fertility treatments (or tests) really take all of her time.

I’m going to assume that Michael  isn’t vaccinated for covid. If she doesn’t need the money, I can understand why she is choosing not to work in healthcare now.

When I had a lot of tests from a fertility specialist, they did the blood draws early so that someone working a 9-5 job could get it done before 8am. I don't remember the exact hours but I think it was from 6:30am-8:30am. I worked from 2pm-8pm so I just had to wake up early on those days. The ultrasounds were scheduled during daytime hours.

I would bet that she is gearing up for fertility treatment if she's getting tested. You can take a more conservative approach so perhaps she found the right fit with this specialist.

I know, but if you CAN afford to do fertility treatments without a job, then do it! It gives her lots of advantages. It's easier to schedule appointments. She can go home and lie down if she feels bad after a procedure. Why not do it, if they can afford it? It's not like you get a medal for bravery if you work at the same time.

I think this is very important to her, and she has a limited window of time, so she is giving it her all. She has her whole life to work as a nurse.

I can't understand it as I don't really understand why she or any of these other people aren't getting vaccinated for COVID. With the Delta variant, there are plenty of people in their twenties and thirties dying of COVID. If she wants to be a mother, she should take care of physical health and that includes getting vaccinated.

I don’t agree with people’s choice not to get the vaccine, but I think it possibly explains the decision of not working in healthcare at this time. Even vaccinated, I wouldn’t want to work in healthcare now if the paycheck wasn’t necessary. I also have no calling for that type of work.

Have the Bates family said they are not vaccinated?

Lawson is the only family member who has publicly said that he's unvaccinated.

I think it's safe to assume that none of the other Bates are vaccinated, given their politics.

Yeah, but can they afford it if she’s not working?  I can’t imagine they are rolling in dough with just Brandon’s job. I don’t know for sure, but I always thought tests and treatments were expensive and not always covered by insurance.

She might be someone who has an extra hard time with hormonal roller coasters. If she’s taking fertility hormones and then snapping at people over any little thing, or easily bursting into tears, or extremely fatigued —- there’s no reason to also work an extremely stressful job if she doesn’t need/want to.

disclaimer- I’m just going off what I’ve read fertility hormones can be like- I don’t know anyone who has needed treatments, but do know several people who struggle/d with hormonal birth control,

I have one friend who didn’t work during IVF because she found it emotionally very difficult.  But she was 47, had been working since finishing uni and could take her long service leave.  (She met her husband in her mid 40s and they did end up with a lovely little boy.)

Slightly different,  but when I was diagnosed with cancer (a year ago today!) I told my spasmodic casual job that I’d be unavailable for shifts, so that I was available for appointments whenever they were scheduled. (I kept my local more stable and flexible job until I couldn’t physically manage the hours.)

I hate how this has become political. Science shouldn’t be political. Especially when their beloved trump has admitted to getting the vax and tries to take all the credit for the vax. Yet his biggest humpers are refusing to get it.

Honestly, I don't think Michaela ever planned to have a full time nursing job.  She never came out and said it, so I'm just guessing here, but I never got the sense that she would be seeking full-time work.

I think she has possible thought about part-time gig work, that she could then spin as a "ministry' calling, say, at a church clinic.
