Erin & Chad 7: Reckless Behavior in a Pandemic Has Consequences

This is crazy! I figured these two were done or at least would have an extremely large break span from their last child (as in we never stopped preventing and the Lord blessed us with our miracle baby 10 years later). I'd really love to know the actual odds of this happening.

So they’ll have 5 kids in a 2 BR, rental home? #goals. I just can’t fathom how this is good for any of the Paine kids.

I think the reason is that the powers that be want the girls to look cute. Otherwise, there's no reason to put a six-year old in a skirt for a day of play, learning and exploration. Yes, you can climb trees in a skirt, but it's much easier in pants. It's a way of handicapping the girls that would never be tolerated for boys. It's not just the dress, it's the Mary Janes/sandals, too. If the ground is wet and muddy, how are you going to run and play in Mary Janes? Better to stay on the sidewalk.

As a result, more girls are likely to stand and watch the active play, instead of participating. Of course, some will still engage in active play, but many will stand and watch out of fear about messing their dress, showing their underpants, getting their legs cold and damp because they are in tights, etc. They'll look at the tree, and look at their Mary Janes, and decide not to climb. That's the price of prioritizing "looks" in prepubescent girls.

I’d be surprised if anyone is climbing trees. Even if there are some around the playground they’d likely be forbidden. And most girls aren’t wearing fancy shoes any more than the boys are. When you have a uniform it just becomes the norm. Handstands, cartwheels, skipping games, we never bothered about the fact we were wearing skirts or dresses because that’s just how it was. And everyone gets cold and damp in British playgrounds. I’m sure there are some girls wanting to keep their uniforms nice and clean but they’d probably be like that whatever they’re wearing. I don’t remember anyone viewing school uniform in the same way as regular clothes, it’s just uniform. It comes off as soon as most kids get home, and then you wear real clothes.
In the winter the girls sometimes complain about not being able to wear trousers (although many schools allow it now). In the summer it’s the boys complaining because a dress, or even a skirt, is cooler than trousers and some schools don’t allow shorts. Every year local media have stories about boys going to school in their sisters’ skirts since the dress code doesn’t explicitly bar that, just shorts.
I think that dressing a little girl in school uniform, particularly the dresses, is something parents look forward to but I don’t think it causes a problem with regards to playing. I suspect that the rules are still in place because we’re big on tradition here. Hopefully with increasing relaxation of old gender norms the no trousers for girls rule will soon go the way of the dinosaurs, but plenty of girls wear skirts and dresses to schools where they are allowed to wear trousers.

This applies to children in British state primary schools.

Wow. With her health complications, I don’t think anyone expected this. So baby is due in January so she is 5 months along? I guess with the complications, they would want to wait to share. I hope Erin and the baby are ok.

I also hope they move, maybe they can take Zach and Whitney’s old place off their hands.

Wow, I did not expect this. The first fundie pregnancy I’m truly surprised by.

Did they keep on with the anti blood-clotting injections even though they thought they weren’t going to have any more? Or did the embryo manage to “stick” without the injections?

gosh, what a slap in the face this would feel like to Michaela and any of you amazing people out there in internet land who are not able to get pregnant even with more than 1/3 of 1 ovary.

When I was in the middle of infertility, my 39 year old cousin who had her tubes tied found out she was like five months pregnant and didn't even know. That one was a real sucker punch. All my love to anyone in that place seeing this news about yet another Paine.

(I did have a dream last night that I found out I was super far along in a pregnancy without having known about it. I kept muttering... but I'm infertile and have an IUD! Here's to all the people out there with the potential to get pregnant getting it when they want it and not when they don't!)

My daughter-in-law teaches at a public school in the US that has a uniform. The girls may wear a skort, skirt, knee length shorts, or trousers. Their uniform shoes look like a dress shoe on top, but have the sole of an athletic trainer.

Driving past the playground reveals plenty of cartwheels, handstands, and general tomfoolery. The girls are lively!  While some are more boisterous than others, the same can be said of the boys.

I only really have one thought regarding this pregnancy: poor poor Michaela. She can’t get pregnant at all and there goes Erin, managing to get pregnant with what, 1/3 of an ovary left?

And raised in a religion where a) babies are everything and b) you are.taught God controls everything. I imagine it would feel like God is punishing you. And news like this would make it worse, because Erin's fertility should have ended and yet she is pregnant again less than a year after having her overvies mostly removed.

I think in most schools girls are allowed to choose between skirt and trousers. I don’t get why they all choose skirts? You’d think it’d be more 50-50. They must be so cold!

I’m still of the opinion that trousers make much more sense for a playing child. Kids don’t have to look cute.

And do secondary students just stop playing? Since they have to wear fancy uniform. The secondary school near my house, nearly all the girls wear skirts. Why do they all choose the same? Is it an age thing? Don’t wanna stick out, don’t wanna be the first one to be different?

I realize that it is technically like a true surprise, odds far against. Yet I can so easily see this happening. It’s weird and of course often sad how some of us have such trouble conceiving or carrying a baby and others (like me, tbh) have had to work at it to not have a clown car family.

But despite my disdain for their stunningly myopic view of the world, I do hope she’s safe and well through her pregnancy, and that the family she cherishes is comfortable, as well. I am going to think kind thoughts.

I'll admit that I wasn't totally shocked.  Erin was crazy fertile prior to this.  I expected it at some point, although not so soon.  I'm sure that they feel very blessed with this "latest miracle" but I do feel badly for Michaela.  If she's 5 months along already that means that shortly after releasing that first article about her lack of fertility she got pregnant.  Crazy.

I did the math and if she is due at the very end of January she is 16 weeks. She could be further along or she could be slightly less pregnant and just expected to deliver in January because she always goes early but she already has a visible bump in that photo (although I was obviously showing by 11 weeks with number 3) so I would guess that she is at least 16 weeks along, so yes, she posted about her health struggles in February and likely got pregnant two months later.

I wear skirts most of the time because I have always struggled with yeast infections when I wear pants/leggings/jeggings/jeans. I also cannot wear pantyhose or tights. Thigh highs or stockings and garter belt if I need to wear stockings for me.

I have a couple pairs of very loose palazzo pants that don’t seem to incite problems. I also wear kind of loose fitting silk bloomers as unders.

I don’t think my problems are by any means universal, but for me, it is skirts, skirts and more skirts.

In my kids’ Catholic schools (in 90s and early 2000’s), the girls could wear skirts, shorts or pants, depending on the time of year. So, skirts and shorts, early Fall and later Spring, and pants during the Winter months. These schools were in No CA, so cold in Winter, but no snow, and potential for hotter than hell at other times. Skirts/shorts underneath and shorts are great for warmer months, particularly when their is NO air conditioning. Never went to a RC school with AC. Lots of girls wear tights in cooler weather.

Wow this was a surprise. I thought it was really unlikely for her to get pregnant. I guess this explains having Ellie as a live in nanny, i though it was a bit strange since its not like they have the room at their house for an extra person, but maybe she needs the help if this pregnancy is not being that easy.

I saw this coming, Erin will continue to have babies and I don't see her stopping until she can't have anymore, either because of age or health issues preventing her from getting pregnant.

I feel that Josie and Alyssa will do the same thing at least until they have a "boy"

I didn't see Erin stopping willingly but I assumed having 1/3 of a functioning overt would stop her.

the thing is I know people with similar condition and they got pregnant successfully and easily. I knew that Erin won't give up on trying even with her condition, I had a strong feeling that she will announce a pregnancy.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm surprised how long it has taken for Chad and Erin to move to a place of their own.

You know--I'm not joking about this--a couple of centuries ago, in many cultures, someone like Erin or Alyssa or Whitney, with multiple children, would just send one of more of their kids to live with  their childless sister Michaela, to even things out & give them a kid to help around the homestead.

Do any of these families ever do surrogacy? I'm almost surprised with so many babies that there has never been a thought for someone to be a surrogate for Michaela, but I'm site they'd consider that unnatural.

I didnt read your post before I just posted wondering about the possibility about surrogacy, or basically what you said.

Erin made a video about the pregnancy. Someone take one for the team and watch it pls

https://youtu.be/MC_pheyvVvI

they talked about what happened to Erin. they went to fertility specialist for hormones, he said she was about to enter into menopause. they thought that they won't be able to have more kids, he told them they only have a small chance. she prayed for a last baby. Carson told her he was praying for a baby brother, he told her an angel told him she's gonna have a baby. three weeks later she took pregnancy test and it was positive. they say this one is a special miracle.

They went to a fertility specialist? Hmm, so much for leaving it up to god.

My grandpa, who was raised on a farm, mentioned that happened a few times in his extended family when he was young. He had one uncle and aunt who were childless and would take in a niece or nephew every so often, so they had extra help around the farm. It was a way to make life easier for everyone, but it can't have been easy emotionally.
