The McKims

As I've been reading about ATI and IBLP, I've come across a family called the McKims, Kenneth and Julie McKim, who have 13 children and used to be the poster family for IBLP before the duggars. After 1992 they dropped off the radar and were no longer held up as such, apparently quite a few of their children ran away. Does anybody know anything about this family?

I had never heard of them but did a quick google:

The McKim parents once wrote a book:
mckim.jpg.27fd3630da42a401f79a200b687a8146.jpg

All daughters with "M", all sons with "K".

I find references to Julie McKim on several "big family" blogs with articles about how having your kids do house work.

8years ago the McKims were involved in this project:
https://thewesterncarolinajournalist.com/2013/02/02/the-market-opens-to-serve-the-community/

Apparently one son got into politics in the past:
https://bluenc.com/content/who-heck-ken-mckim

Most of the kids (now adults) can be found on facebook and none of them seem to have 13 kids (most I found was 4), a couple of them work in real estate, and in general they all they seem to be very religious and conservative.
Also lots of giant family pictures on different accounts.

edit: Klayt McKim is married to a woman called Zoya who looks like a tattooed badass (I mean that in a  positive way)
https://www.facebook.com/hakimsstudio/posts/zoya-and-klayt-will-be-tying-their-knot-this-week-and-we-cant-wait-to-celebrate-/2749623855056499/

She sells "blunteffects" which is apparently stuff that smells.
I think Klayt might be a police officer.

There are so many other people in those pictures from the families they married into that I didn't want to post it here.
Just look at the accounts of some of the adult kids by the names on the books.

I couldn't resist some further googling, so
Meg McKim married a guy called Adam Blocker who is the Author of this book:
https://www.amazon.com/Joshua-Spider-Adam-Blocker-ebook/dp/B00COQMLNW/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=joshua and the spider&qid=1585302344&sr=8-1&fbclid=IwAR3Xah_RdnlYnwD5aVP0M81-nKkuZWCrufa_x9VLmNCGHqHgdHeHqNIxTWU

She works as a nurse.

On their personal fb accounts and in his biography there is no mention of children.
But Meg's middle name is Coralee and there is a young Coralee McKim around and if that's her daughter then they have somwhere between 2 and 7 children.

It's confusing trying to sort through this family as some of Kenneth's and Julie's oldest grandchildren seem to be at roughly the same age as their youngest children. Maybe. Just too many people for me to get a clear picture.

Mindy McKim married Edward and they have 7 children:
https://pariswarriors.com/personnel/edward-mckim/

Mindy works as a florist.

There are far more McKim grandchildren around than I originally though
t when I found no more than 4 per family.

I should stop googling. :) It feels like a rabbit hole for me.

Kase William Wayne Mckim married Lauren Michelle Reaves. She went to a Christian college but does not appear very conservative in her choice of clothes etc.

But then there is Joshua Reaves who I suspect is her brother. And he felt called to be a missionary in... *drum roll* ... Tennessee!
Yep, Tennessee.

He quit his job for that.
And is not just a missionary. Oh no. He is COOL missionary. He is even hip.
He is a gamer.
He has his own Twitch channel:

https://www.twitch.tv/Rise2Life/about

And youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIx5ElT3wlg&feature=youtu.be

And they call themselves the Reaves Report
https://the-reaves-report.epistle.today/

(have a look at their latest news where they declare that from now on "we are going to be fully dependent on our God for all of our financial needs. The way that he provides for us is through our wonderful, sacrificial supporters.")

Yeah I understand completely, I actually meant the link to the book (Building good character and maturity in children) photo if you have it?

Did Edward take Mindy's name?

He seems like a real peach. Quite the padded resume, too. "From an early age, he felt directed to serve people in politics as a conservative Statesman who will stand against the evils of liberal politics. He ran for the Texas State Legislature at 24." Guessing that campaign didn't work out but he's back at it 12 years later, listing "marriage" as one of his primary values while apparently single.

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood.
I think I saw it as a book yesterday but right now I can only find it as audio cassettes:

Does anyone know if Kenneth was a vet or a dentist?  I worked with a woman whose parents were very high up in the ATI/IBLP world.  She was estranged from her parents but this family sounds a lot like hers.  She was still fundie but not deep into ATI.  I also know she moved back up north not long after she left the facility (She's a nurse)

My former co-worker told me horror stories about ATI

I'm not sure what he did, though I do know he ran for state senate once. In Josh Harris's 'I kissed Dating Goodbye' there's this note:

This book:

They both refer to 'Family Heritage' based in Windom Texas, the 1st one refers to a Family Heritage newsletter, has anyone held of this or has an old link that I can check the Wayback Machine for?

I could find two more books (cassettes?) published by Family Heritage
- Purposeful Womanhood by Julie McKim
- Leading a Family by Kenneth McKim

Apart from that there is precious little to be found online about the older McKims. I find them being mentioned but nothing directly from or about them except the market thing I posted earlier:

btw at least in 2018 their son Kyle and probably their daughter Mindy are also involved in the Point Market

Usually Kyle, Ken and Melisa work together as realtors and they are the only ones in that company who have not filled in their "about me" pages.

And I think it was Ken McKim, Kenneth's son, who ran for state senate? Or did the father as well?

Thanks for that. Yeah you're right, I thought it was the father but it actually the son Ken who ran for state senate. I came across those other two works by Family Heritage, but weirdly I can't find any record of the organisation/ministry etc existing.

Yeah, either the old McKims didn't create content for the internet and nobody else preserved it on here or it was thoroughly scrubbed at one point.

I found some more works by them on this list, either as Julie McKim, Kenneth McKim or as McKims
http://www.oocities.org/wehomeeducate/chelclibrary.htm

"CHELC" could be Christian Homeschool Educators of Laurens/Lowndes County

I did find a link to one of their books but I can't seem to get it to work; I wasn't sure if it worked for anyone else:

+ I just found this interesting comment- the author says that Kyle Mckim's family moved from Texas to Highlands, NC in the 1990s- this matches up with info that says the McKims left Texas after 1992, possibly due to some of their runaway children, which made the McKim family no longer a model IBLP/ATI family:

These comments are on an Ex-ATI satire post that’s pretty funny:

I guess the McKims were the ideal IBLP family for Gothard to bludgeon you with, once upon a time.

Does anyone have PDFs of any of the ATI newsletters?

I don't think it's going to be that easy.

While some newsletter content can be found here
https://iblp.org/news/1999

the newsletters were actual physical newsletters for a long time I think.

RecoveringGrace uses scans of a very few of those physical newsletters
https://www.recoveringgrace.org/2012/08/bill-gothards-tornado-that-didnt-happen/

There are also mentions of the ATI newsletters arriving in the mail on the iblp website.

So this might not be something readily available on the internet.
