Belgian Malinois. Pretty much full grown but not adult. Very high energy breed. I feel a smaller breed or a puppy might have given the boys a chance to interact with a new pet more easily. But I'm old and very low energy!

Belgian Malinois mix (allegedly, sometimes the shelter knows and sometimes they guess based on looks. I could be on board with more common breeds like a pitt/German Shepherd cross as far more likely). I was shocked no one has brought up kittygate yet.

Still, Grindle does seem like a sweet dog, a little over excited, but I hope that she'll settle in. I thought it seemed like she really responded to Derek's commands by later watching him, recognizing him as boss. I think if he does take the time to train her, she'll be an excellent dog for them. If he doesn't (not that Jill can't train but it was obvious to me that the dog has accepted Derek as leader), such a lively dog may overwhelm them. GS is a dog that needs activity but a Malinois (if she's truly a Malinois) especially needs a job. They don't always make good pets (from what I understand) because of their need for purpose.

I would have much rather seen them take the lab cross. Although they are super high-energy as puppies, it's a breed that is well-known to be a great family dog.

Labs do make great family dogs. My sister has a lab mix and she loves the kids. She is so sweet, and will let the kids do anything to her. She also a rescue from a shelter. All of my family's pets have been from shelters and have been great. I believe shelter animals make the best pets.

Meet Grindle 6292

8-month-old Grindle is a perfect blend of beauty, controlled fluid athleticism and a marvelous desire to please, all wrapped up into an easy-going, respectful canine package. Her beauty is even more distinguished with her one ear up and the other ear down as she gazes at you with eyes that seem to express an awareness of self. During the photo shoot, Grindle would come up behind the human and touch the hand that had held the treats earlier. She then gently touched the other hand just in case it might provide another source of goodness. As the photographer turned around, Grindle would instantly perform a proud sit, which successfully encouraged the human to comply with her unassuming request. Grindle then demonstrated her innate curiosity as she climbed onto the agility playground set and explored the stairs and ramps totally at ease with the first-time encounter. Grindle walks nicely on leash, comes running to you when called, and keeps her attention politely focused on her human. Grindle has an identical twin who is also up for adoption at the Humane Society for Animals in Rogers, AR.

It looks like Grindle's little adoption profile is still available online (https://www.petfinder.com/dog/grindle-6292-50445547/ar/rogers/humane-society-for-animals-inc-ar50/) and she is listed as 8 months old and a Belgian Shepard/Malinois x Shepard.

So, it's easy to know that 2 dogs are from the same litter, with the same parents, but how can the shelter be sure that they're identical twins? Maybe they just mean that Grindle's litter mate looks exactly like her?

Her one ear up, one ear down look is adorable. :romance-hearteyes:

Oops! Several people already beat me to it. For some reason I didn’t realize my page wasn’t refreshed lol. I am also glad they adopted instead of shopped, and the video of the boys at the shelter was very cute. I hope they are able to train her well and that the boys have fun playing with her!

I have known a couple of Malinois and they can be wonderful pets when well trained and have a job even if not every day, they love agility and can take agility as a job they are usually very high energy and full of love, typically they set on one person in the family as the leader and that's it, I don't know if is possible to make them made a change, maybe if she spends most of her time with Jill and the boys maybe she will switch her leader from Dereck to Jill. I have a full bread Golden Retriever and although he has chosen me as a leader he also recognizes my father and then my mother as substitute leaders. He loves agility but a good run on the beach with a lot of splashes in the water or a long run on the country could substitute the agility not sure that would be enough for a Malinois

Totally different topic, but nice to see J/D being proactive about wanting to be sure they educate and do whatever they can to protect their boys.

In a new interview with Us Weekly, Jill — who revealed in 2015 that she had been molested by her older brother Josh  — stressed the importance of giving her sons this important information 'in an effort to protect them'.

<snip>

'Growing up, we always learned the anatomical names for body parts and didn’t use colloquial names or euphemisms or whatever, which I think can protect against abuse,' he said.

<snip>

Jill also indicated that they are teaching their children about body autonomy.

'In our bathroom, we have a little sign, "My Body Rules." If there's a babysitter here in our home, they're gonna see that too,' she said.

Totally off subject again but I hope that Derrick finishes law school and is able to practice law soon. What I really want is for him to represent Jill in a lawsuit against Jim Bob and Michelle for something like failure to protect a child or coconspirators for abuse. They protected the wrong kid even though he was a young teen. They should go after TLC as well because they knew about some of it and still pushed for making shows. It would do my heart good to see them tapped for millions and then Jesse and Joy turn on them as well. Not sure if Jana was the other sister but that would really be something to watch. This all came back to me from watching the Megyn Kelly interview where the whole family glazed over it. Now, Jill is getting therapy and fighting back. Boundaries!

I'm surprised she says they used anatomical names since I seem to remember the police report quoted the girls saying things like "down there". But I guess they might have known the correct words but been far too uncomfortable discussing their abuse with strangers.

That quote is from Derick not from Jill. So he is saying that he grew up using anatomical names and thinks it is helpful to prevent and report abuse.

One of the boys called their penis something cringeworthy. I won't repeat it because I don't think that interview should have been released.

I am glad Jill's kids will know the proper names.

Calling your own genitalia something cringeworthy is something that I've also encountered with non-fundies. The daughter of a former teammate called her vulva her "little strawberry" and I was more than perplex. She was school age and didn't know the proper way to describe her genitalia.

When my daughter was little, our paediatrician asked during an exam if he could check her "little pipi mouse" (ugh). My daughter just stared at him in utter confusion because she had never heard such a twee expression before - we've always used correct anatomical terms. We found another doctor soon after...

Is the upcoming wedding the first one since Jills' fallout?

Is there a sign they are going to Texas? Or will they use the dog as a reason to stay home?

I think this will be the first since the thing between Jill and family started to get tenser @CarrotCake

I feel they would use the dog and some other stuff as an excuse why they will not go down to Texas, I don't know maybe Izzy school? Something that could be reasonable enough without having to say they weren't inviter/has been requested to don't go. Like for the Christmas megaspredder at TTH, they decided to celebrate with the Dillards and facetimed the rest of the family because the boys where tired or so

Yeah, we weren’t fundy, but as a kid I never knew the correct terms. For me (a girl) everything was referred to as your “bottom”. I thought I had a front bottom and a back bottom ? I knew the back bottom was also called a butt, but that was a “bad” word at my house...My brothers were told they had tallywackers.

You are not alone.  I never knew the correct words either as a kid.  My mom always referred to it as "down there".  And I had younger parents-my mom had me at 22 and my dad was 24-so I can't blame having older parents as the reason for it.  My mom was just extremely uncomfortable talking about anything that had to do with sex or "private areas".

I remember being a 70s kid around 8-9 watching the episode of "Good Times" in which JJ thinks he has venereal disease (VD) and I asked my mother what VD was.  Her response?  "That's something you get from sitting on a dirty toilet".   And I thought that for years.

It seemed to me that Izzy was much more comfortable with the orange cat. Maybe he would have appreciated a quieter, less rambunctious pet. He was seen with the same cat at least three times. Izzy seems to be a little more laid back since he started school.

Same here, no correct anatomical terms. However my mom was 39 years older than me, so maybe a little understandable. One day in the early 70's (I was probably around 14) I was in bed reading a Teen Challenge book. It was pretty graphic regarding drug use, so I think Mom thought it was a good scare tactic. She however hadn't read the book. She comes in to say good night and asks how's the book, probably expecting me to say something like 'I'll never do drugs!" Instead young teenager me asks "what's cunnilingus?" In hindsight I'm surprised she didn't faint! Really can't remember what she said, probably mumbled something about marriage and we'll talk about it later. (We never did.)

And now that I've googled how to spell cunnilingus, I can only imagine it will be months before my feeds stop posting porn!

People love dogs on Instagram, I think Jill and Derick can garner a lot of attention if they show dog training, interaction between the boys and the dog.

Re anatomical names- as a prosecution lawyer in England I’ve watched so many videos of abused children where they struggle to describe what happened to them and are hampered by the lack of proper names as the detective has to press them to find out what they mean. In my experience girls especially suffer for not knowing - they used terms like ‘down there’, ‘lady’, ‘Mary’, ha’penny. It’s so sad and so wrong.

We are absolutely teaching our toddler to use correct names. The first time my husband referred to our son's penis as his "wee wee" I was like...nope...it's a penis. It literally never occurred to him the reasoning why kids should know correct names. Recently he's shown some interest in the difference so we've had to explain penis vs vagina. The number of kids I know who refer to it as their "privates" is just shocking. Like parents aren't ok with teaching their kids proper names?

When the kids were. interviewed after the Josh affair, one of them referred to a."pee pee holder". Don't remember if it was a boy or a girl.
