But without the addition nobody will be able to tell they're more modest than everybody else!

Personally, I don’t mind Claire’s modesty panel if that’s what makes her comfortable.

I just the dress itself is ugly/dated

See, and I think Anna's is better for two reasons.

1.) Their wedding in general was pretty plain - they didn't have the huge productions that the other married couples got because they were the first and while it was filmed, I'm not sure TLC paid for anything. Claire's dress also makes me think it was family bought and TLC didn't pay/film any of this wedding.

2.) Josh and Anna got married in 2008 (although it seems longer). I feel like fashion in general has changed SO much since then, with there being a lot more fashionable, modest options now. All the other Duggar brides have managed to find modest dresses that aren't completely heinous.

I was married in 2009 and Anna’s dress wasn’t fashionable than as it is now. It was all strapless, big skirt or mermaid then. After Kate Middleton (ca. 2011) we got the lace and the long arm. And the sleek skirts and boho chic really caught on around 2018.
There weren’t as many fashionable “modest” choices around then, but definitely better options than this. Anna and her family probably couldn’t afford a new dress, maybe Anna even wanted her sister’s dress, who knows. And that is fine. But compared to the rest it’s not just plain but completely bland and not really well fitting.

My updated list:

1. Jinger (unchallenged)

2. Kendra

3. Lauren

4. Jessa

6. Abbie + new in Claire

8. Jill

9. Anna

Claires dress fits nicely. But something is off. It looks as generic as Abbie’s on one hand, but the lace placement on the skirt seems strange compared to the bodice. It looks like to different pieces that just don’t go together. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a big chunk of her mother’s dress in there. The modesty panel sticks out, but at least not painfully obvious. All in all, I wouldn’t look twice at it. It’s pretty bland. But she had other very nice elements in the wedding. Loved the flowers/decorations and the food (wouldn’t have done it personally but for a smaller more informal affair. As a guest I would have loved it.). The hair gets points for effort I guess?

Oh dear, I do sound extremely nitpicking, bitchy and judgmental, don’t I?

Upon looking at the wedding photo dump, Claire's dress has grown on me a little bit. I agree that there's something off about the combination of the top and the skirt; I like that there's visual interest on the skirt, but am not sure how I feel about the application of the lace.

This wedding scores high for decor and food, and it's a nicer venue than the standard megachurch wedding with parking lot reception. Too bad about the global pandemic and lack of masking on guests.

Venue and flowers are nice. Her dress is awful. It looks cheap and unfinished–the scrappy edging on the sleeves instead of a nice, clean line. Looks like a high school prom/debutante dress.

It's an alright dress. I'm not offended by it, lol. Unfinished "eyelet" lace has been hugely popular for the past few years, possibly my least favorite fashion trend recently but I can't fault Claire for liking it, and I expected lace from her since the start. I think the bodice looks alright, I like the sleeve "fold" detail and the modesty panel could be worse. I think the skirt looks alright, tiers aren't my favorite look but the lace pattern itself is pretty and I love the hem of the train. I just don't like that skirt with that bodice....I think the skirt with a non-allover-lace top would look much more sleek and stylish.

My new rankings:

1. Jinger - still, slayyyyyy queen

2. Lauren - sleek and simple and love the back

3. Abbie - I like her sparkle better than Jessa's, though overall too sparkly for me

4. Jessa and Kendra - tie between Jessa going with blush & Kendra's perfect personality dress

6. Joy - hodge-podge meh

7. Claire - could be higher than Joy but not my personal taste

8. Jill

9. Anna

Duggar Wedding Dresses Ranked by Me!

I’ve only included positive comments as the brides loved their wedding dresses.

1. Jinger - love the train and the lace

2. Lauren - love the fit. Beautiful back

3. Jessa - pretty colour, suits her skin tone

4. Abbie - sparkly and elegant

5. Claire - like the bottom and lace

6. Kendra - sparkly and fun

7. Joy - liked the 3/4 sleeves and matching veil

8. Jill - the bottom edging is very pretty

9. Anna - liked that she borrowed her sister’s dress

My ranking for Duggar dresses:

1) Jessa--still the fundie dress to beat; love the color and the sparkle; already modest; gorgeous

2) Abbie-- loved the fit and sparkle

3) Kendra--cute, sparkly, suited her personality

4) Jill--loved the fit and the lace

5) Jinger--not a fan of long sleeve wedding dresses;  looked heavy; beautiful train

6) Joy--would have been prettier without the long sleeves; just seemed like too much dress for her

7) Claire--didn't like the modesty panel or the fraying on the sleeves;  liked the skirt

8.  Lauren--liked the back but would look better with her hair up; would have been a lot prettier with some sparkly accessories.

9) Anna--maybe if she added a few sparkly accessories it would have looked better

@Markie as much as this is a snark site I love that you found something positive to say about each of the dresses.

Chiming as a lingerie designer about unfinished lace edges- I love them, but am biased. When I see a lace fabric with a nice edge, my creative juices tend to flow, as I like to find ways to construct my pieces using the fancy edges to their full advantage. In my case it's about finding ways to draw the eyes to certain areas and to flatter the figure- obviously fundie priorities are the opposite!

The style of lace on Claire's dress is really whispy, hence the frayed  look. I could see this type of lace being beautiful on a soft sheer flowy top (think more boho or vintage 30's aesthetic- see images under spoilers). Against the structured t-shirt shape it just looks messy and unfinished.

Wow, those dresses are amazing! The second especially would be perfect for a young fundie maiden! You could cover a little bit the shoulder if it really needed. Why do they have to always butcher the dresses they choose, plus it seems that they always choose very similar dresses when they have so many choices...

I'm thinking that Katey will have an A-line gown without obvious modesty alterations. Maybe something like this, minus the sweetheart neckline.

Just under 7 weeks is a really short time to get a wedding dress. COVID might make it easier since fewer people are buying dresses and stores might be more desperate to move inventory. On the other hand, ordering a dress might not be feasible due to time constraints.

I was going to say she wouldn't her mother's dress, but maybe she could wear her stepmother's dress. It's interesting that none of these women have worn an inherited dress.

There’s a photo from Korey and Kerry’s wedding on the blog. She did wear a white wedding gown, but it had the simpler look that older brides often go for. I don’t think that a young woman in an affluent family (and a cult that promotes youthful marriage and extreme femininity) would wear her dress. It’s odd that they only posted one photo because at that time Korey was doing huge photo dumps for everyday events. Maybe they took down some photos after they went super fundie?

from that pic it also looks like Kerry's dress was for sure sleeveless if not a halter, haha. def no for Katey xD.

Maybe she's one of those who has had a wedding dress for awhile, either made or gifted? Chelsy Maxwell made her own dress and was engaged for less than 3 months...

There are also more stores nowadays that focus on good quality secondhand or sample sale dresses where you can take the dress home with you that day and just get it altered. The place I got my wedding dress from last year is like that and markets itself as eco-friendly, since you're not getting a brand new dress made to order. And as long as alterations aren't extensive they can usually be done fairly quickly.

Jed and Katey (and her half-brother), with decent shot of the front of her dress! And I think she had illusion half-sleeves in that lace? I like it on her, and not a franken-dress! Also, a Duggar groom in pants properly hemmed O.o lol

Does this woman not have arms? Why does she have one normal shoulder and another that seems to have a wedge made of wood between her body and the dress on the other side?

Does this woman not have arms? And why does she have one normal shoulder (my left when looking at the pic) and another that seems to have some kind of wooden wedge between her body and the edge of her dress? Why is the right side of her torso (as viewed in the pic) normal but the left has this jagged indentation? Either this woman has a very strange anatomy or some really bad photoshopping was going on.

It looks like her arms are behind both men (hugging them) and shadows are causing the jagged look. I don't think photoshop, but rather low lighting and a light background.

I have to say I really like Kateys dress. I like the ivory shade and I the lace is pretty without being dated.

Katey's dress is very nice. I like the way the scalloped lace accentuates the waist, and I like that it doesn't look like it was heavily altered for modest.

Their wedding... Culty and creepy, especially the singing! Also, fuck the patriarchy.
